To me this is no doubt better than DROM even without a repaint. IMHO

I really want to pull a trigger on this but I haven't.

So do the majority agree this is better than DROM PF?

Also why Sideshow website is still showing pre-order? Is this not in stock anymore?

I dunno, I really like the DROM too. I think DROM would look better in an open display where as Sauron looks better nicely lit up. They both have their strong points.

Of course if you have both (like most of us!) then it doesn't matter!

Just got Drom today, I think Sauron has so much more presence. Quality is just as good on both, but if given a choice, I give the slight edge to Sauron.

Has anyone attempted to put this guy in a besta unit yet? I have the height, the product info has it at 12"D but I'm a little concerned about the depth with the mace and all.

Oh and great job Adolfo your repaint looks superb :clap.

Thank you. Personally I would not do it in a besta unit. His mace will stick out a lot plus you can only pose him facing to his left. His height too I would consider

Great repaint Adolfo it looks much better the way you did yours I think. I will wait for mine and do the same. Congrats!

Guess everyone to his own taste. Many collectors here seem to prefer a repainted Sauron with the orange glow mostly, if not totally, removed. For me, these painted light reflections are a key element of what makes this piece work dramatically, giving it a sense of life and in-the-moment reality. Take the glow away, and this "living" figure comes off more like a monochromatic studio prop with indifferent lighting. Maybe I'm just not into second guessing an artist's conception (Hmm, that Mona Lisa babe could use a better smile... let's do some re-working and get it to taste!). Some fans even add physical elements to their statues and busts, altering the shape of noses, jawlines, etc. Anything can be customized, of course, and that's totally up to the owner. But IMO, the specific lighting and color scheme conceived for a statue like this one should not be tampered with, just as the the lighting, color choices and brush strokes of the original JV painting/print should be left alone.

The paintjob on my Sauron actually turned out really well. Don't think I'll need to touch him up at all.

:lol

You guys getting (and customizing) this piece are fortunate indeed! I'm so jealous!

You know what would be freakin cool if I could switch the head for a Sauron the fair with no helm I bet he would look cool with the long black hair flowing

I will not disagree with this post but you better display this like the JV painting, dark back ground with low level lighting striking the statue from the front of the base to make this look right just like you said in the JV painting. My repainted Sauron with the proper lighting can look like the JV painting as well. Hmmm maybe I should get like a 25 orange/yellow Christmas light set soon and light em up in front of the base. I will show more photos soon playing around with lighting and I hope some of you out there with the SS paint do the same. Play with the lighting. Some pieces don't need it but IMHO this one absolutely does. Nothing will change my mind about that and tampering with a beautiful masterpiece paint like JVs Sauron vs a repainted SS Sauron or the Mona Lisa are like comparing apples to oranges, please don't compare em. I love the SS Sauron but it needs specific treatment namely lighting and dark setting and without that you discredit the SS Sauron just as much as those that want a repaint. I did the repaint because I can, that's all, but it feels good that I have a real choice on how I can display him vs the limited choice that SS gave you with Saurons paint scheme.

I personally don't think Sauron needs a repaint. I love how it came out and love how it looks displayed in my collection. However, if Travis likes it that's all that matters. To each their own as they say.

I don't think it needs a repaint to but I wasn't going to change my lighting set up for him so it was another reason on the checklist for me to do it.

I'm sure you have your reasons. Like I said as long as you're happy with it.
