Hello Jessica, how long does it take you to make these sculpts. You're averaging at least one a day, lol. I'm trying to looking into some new display shelves. I remember there used to be a thread for IKEA display cabinets so I'm rummaging through old threads looking for some info. Great job, I can't suggest anything to you as it is better than anything I can do. Hopefully Angel, IM, PZ, JJ, DR.Z and the others can offer suggestions to you.

I think I'm going to take a hammer to Lucius and Prefect Barlow tomorrow. I'm so much happier with the way Galen turned out. I also figured out how to do easy screencaptures--just put the DVD on pause! DUH!! Anyway, I prefer working off of a photograph so seeing it on TV is not exactly as seeing it printed on paper. It's still better, though than a moving image...

Sticks, with Super Sculpey, it may take about 3 hours max. With Apoxie, it was taking longer because I had to wait for it to cure to a perfect consistency, and then if I messed up, I would have to sand it off. With Super Sculpey, I can tweak it until I'm good and ready to bake it.

Sticks, you are right...I am doing about one sculpt a day. Can't help it. It's just so dang fun. And there are so many more apes to do. Pretty soon I'm going to have to get some more Super Sculpey!! Actually I think I can do six more heads with whatever Super Sculpey I have left.

So I did my first mold today. I'm too scared to see how it came out. I'll check it out tomorrow. If I messed up, I will do it again. I was just thinking how wasteful it is to use those cups with the measurements preprinted on them, and I just got a fantastic idea!! I'm going to buy those preformed plastic disposable bottles that I used to use for baby formula!! Angel, do you know what I'm talking about? These little plastic sleeves for baby formula/baby bottles are able to stand up on their own and are made to be disposable.

Anyway, they will be for both 1/9 and 1/6 scale. It's easier to sculpt in 1/6 scale, but 1/9 is smaller. Not like I display anything, either. Most of my figures are naked and are stacked together in boxes and whatnot.

Well, it's late and I still have to get my hiney to bed so I can wake up and get my lifemold done at 9. Wish me luck. Good night...see you guys tomorrow after my session. My husband already knows about it, but my parents who are visiting, do not. I will not be escorted, I will go it alone. A no-no to my parent's eyes (unescorted married female going to a male's house) but whatever. I need to move forward with this makeup. It's that Asian culture creeping out again.

My only concern is the Headsculpt underneath. Will these shrink too? I know your not fully sure yet. I'm so anxious to see that part. So I will patiently await for your updates, which are always a joy to see.

I will pour a new cast with specially formulated resin/material into the mold I make. When this cast is ready to be removed from the mold, I take it out and let the cast shrink slowly by itself. It may take weeks or a few months for it to shrink to the size I want, but I will still have the original sculpt. From what I have read, the texture of the shrinking cast is a little rubbery, not like hard plastic. So you see, I will still have the best of both worlds!! I guess the cast is formulated to shrink as it dries...it's supposed to shrink uniformly. Once I have achieved the right scale in the shrinking process, I need to make a new mold and then just pour regular liquid plastic in the new mold, and voila--almost instant Mego.

Ah Yes, that makes sense. How many do you now have? I got 2 Diamond Select Mego Retro Khan figures for $22. Canadian and I noticed that He sold out at Amoketimes for $32 USA or something.

Have you ever seen the DidaDisplays at the Mego Museum. I'm tempted to get the Deluxe Command Center display, but am also tempted in getting new shelves so I can display more of my collection, as I won't be doing stop motion for a while.

First off, I never thought I'd read a post here with the word "hiney" in it. :rotfl
The head looks great, a little more "depth" to the hair than I recall, but i am curious to see how that translates to a finished, painted head so don't change that.
I will get those other 2 heads out to you this week Jess. I'm still catching up from my wife's hospital stay, and, just having been diagnosed with Diabetes has made some unforeseen, sudden changes to my life that I really didn't need right now.
Also Jess, Would you happen to be trying the enlarging method as welll as the shrinking? I am interested in enlarging some Mego sculpts to 1:6 and I haven't heard back from Dr. Shrinker.I also have 10 - 15 Yamato figures that have a similar head/neck as the Sideshow apes that are waiting for life.
I was looking at my Beneath "Fat Man" after the late night FMC showing the other night and I don't think I made him fat enough, so he'll get a reworking. That and I don't have his head yet anyway.
Angel, is it possible for you to take a picture or two, group shots if you'd like, of the heads available from you? I will have to start painting soon I fear and I might as well do as many as possible while the paint is mixed.
On last storage detail, I have three and one half storge bins of POTA!!
I also have a storage bin full of heads. Out of them not all are scheduled for use, some are just dupes. A lot need to be drilled out (another thing I fear trying for breaking some of these is not an option) and some are just repaints of existing sculpts. Others though, are custom sculpts, human and simian that will really test me skills and, most of all, my patience.

Oh, crap, Ironman...diabetes is NOT fun!! I hope it is early enough in stages where you can avoid insulin by a diet change and more exercise. I may be looking at that down the road since I had it three times with each pregnancy. You will find that you will now feel much better once you get your blood sugars stabilized.

I know Galen's hair is a little more wild, but it was too boring looking for me.

Ironman - I also think I have a mold of this gorilla head as well. No one has this one either from what I remember.

Obviously, I have many other ape heads, but I don't have molds made for any of the others at this time.

Ironman, I have not thought of the enlarging process...maybe something I can look into down the road. It's just the opposite of shrinking. The materials are soaked in water and enlarge slowly I think. There's hydrospan, which is very expensive, and there's another one whose name escapes me, a cheaper alternative.
