I sent my e-mail 8/30 (They're several hours ahead, so they received it 8/31)...and I got my reply last night.

Funny thing is, I don't remember sending them the e-mail. Oh yeah...come to think of it, I sent out the e-mail after I read about the no apes in our future on that MegoMuseum post.

If you write them a short letter and still manage to pour your heart and soul and if they hear the violins playing...I know they would respond.

I think the trick is writing a short letter so they don't have to read a lot.

I already told them that I was heartbroken and that all flags at Ape City are flying at half-mast, upon reading the horrible news about no apes in my future.

I wonder if they'll understand the sorrow of it all.

I'm sure they're cracking up. I just want my e-mail to stand out so they'll remember me. Besides, what other girl writes about apes?

<Sigh>
Alas, no pix tonight.
I am 90% pleased with the gorillas, 70%-80% pleased with the chimps and the orangutan is hanging at about 40%.
I still also have to figure out the eyes and teeth on all of them.
But, six heads in an afternoon ain't bad. Boy, are my eyes killing me though.

Hey Ironman--I looked at a Pantone Color Formula Guide (but it's dated 1987 so take this with a grain of salt---"due to uncontrollable fading of pigments, vehicle discoloration and paper aging, the colors in this book may change."...

Anyway, looking at the gorilla plum of the Hot Toys Captain figure...I see it best matches PANTONE 5115 U (printed on uncoated paper)...

13 parts PANTONE Rubine Red 59.1
3 parts PANTONE Process Blue 13.6
6 parts PANTONE Black 27.3

I recognize the Lawgiver and Lucius!! The photo was too blurry for me to discern the other guys in the middle...

Does that mean the color has to be mixed and the fabric dyed OR can I just look for Pantone 5115U colored material?

It means that when you look for fabric, if you have a PANTONE color wheel, you can match the fabric to PANTONE 5115U...you know...like the paint strips they have at the paint stores...

What I should do is grab a bunch of those paint swatches from the paint store and match it by eye to the Hot Toys gorilla plum...so that I can always carry it with me and have it as a reference when I go to the fabric shop!! (or to the second hand store!!)...or just carry around my Hot Toys gorilla. What a site that would be!!

Ok, ready?
Two gorilla sculpts are drying as we speak. I have to figure out yet how to properly accomplish the eyes and teeth but so far I am pleased with them. They have sat long enough and demanded attention.
I am now searching to see if any of the paints I have will work for the chimps and orangutan that need painting.....
