He's supposed to be Link from Legend of Zelda.

Whoops--I forgot to photograph the back of the vest, because I can see ballpoint pen marks for guidelines for when they were sewing the vest together. I'll try to photograph that tomorrow.

Here's a photo of the Captain's knee and the sleeve underneath the gauntlet. You can see the subtle color difference...it's the Forbidden Zone dust!!

Time to mass together and write out your heart and soul to Hot Toys...that we need more apes!!

[email protected]

Here's my email to Hot Toys... I hope I didn't overdo it.

Let me first say that I've thoroughly enjoyed your product in the past. Especially in the last years or so, I've purchased items in your Dark Knight and Ironman lines as well as your recent Hellboy and Planet of the Apes figures. Each one of your figures is astonishingly detailed and is a thing of beauty. I always look forward to adding a new Hot Toys figure to my collection.

However, I've noticed a trend recently that I find disturbing. Sure you gave us some amazing Batman figures, but essentially you only gave us three characters (Batman, Joker and Two Face) albeit in different guises. Where is Commissioner Gordon? Alfred? Fox? I've seen multiple versions of the Ironman's costume (one that isn't even in the film) but where's the Obadiah Stane figure or Pepper Potts? It's been a few months since the Hellboy figures were released and no word on any new additions from the B.P.R.D. like Liz Sherman or Johann Krauss. And today I've learned there are no current plans to continue the Planet of the Apes line any further than the first three gorillas. What is happening here?

I do not understand your current "hit and run" approach to the licenses that you acquire. Frankly, I've thought about cancelling my three gorillas that are still on pre-order from an online retailer since there seems to be no other extensions to the line. What good is a Planet of the Apes collection when only the gorilla is represented? Where is Dr. Zaius, the orangutan? Where is Cornelius and Zira, the chimpanzee couple? I'm not asking you to make a figure of a minor character that was only on the screen for a few seconds... not like the recent Cop Joker you guys produced. These are main characters that any casual Planet of the Apes Collection should not be without... and your line is dismissing them out of hand.

Given this development, I had thought about pre-ordering your Watchmen figures... but I've reconsidered my purchase. Why would I start line of figures like the Watchmen, one that demands a certain level of commitment, with your track record of shallow offerings. Heck, you even started the line with a rather weak entry, Silk Specter, a figure that I would only buy if it completed the collection.

And I understand that your company has acquired some major licenses recently including the Marvel movie franchises. I'm sure that you will give each and every figure the detail it deserves. But I'm not so sure I'll be on board. I'm not going to start your X-Men line... not with your current short attention span. Collectors NEED to know that the companies who acquire these licenses respect each and every one of those licenses and it's fans. There needs to be a certain level of trust established between us... so when a company acquires a franchise they enter into an implied trust with every collector of that franchise. Please take serious care in these franchises. They may just stand as a business opportunity for you, but they mean a lot to us. You are working with characters we care about... enough to shell out your hefty asking price. So don't manhandle them. As a serious collector, sad gaping holes in my collection is the last thing I want. And when I have too many of those, I start rethinking the idea of collecting altogther.

Excellent letter Protozaius. Hot toys won't have my money anymore if I'm not sure they do a license seriously.

I don't know that I would've bashed so many lines if I wanted them to continue on the POTA. Silk Spectre weak? I think the way she turned out the comic guys would love it!
Anyway, I haven't gotten a reply yet, I'll let you all know when/if I do.
Onto simian heads.
:horror
Boy! Those heads looked better last night as it was getting darker. I look at them this morning and am happy with almost none of them. i am completely discouraged. I thought it was going much better. I even tried something on the Buono mask to give it a better "human" look. I'll have to revisit that as well.

OK guys...I am ready to fire up this guy before I mess him up, which at this point is really easy to do. His nose is so freaking fragile at the moment. Any constructive criticism before I fire him up?

This sculpt inspires me to plug in a X-Files DVD and get some screen shots! I'm going to do an X-File alien some day soon. :frank

No offense, because you know I can't sculpt, but as an "X-files alien" its a good size. For Link, a child, its too large a sculpt.

I'll try to make him smaller--maybe I'll start again. I'm afraid that when I add his hair he'll get mongo-sized at this rate...:monkey4:monkey4:monkey4

I just wanted him to be about the same sized head as a 1/6 scale person because he most probably will be on a 12 inch body.

And...I didn't realize he's supposed to be a child. So that's very helpful.

I'm going to finish Link!!

Ironman--sculpting just a gorilla face shouldn't be that difficult...to fit onto a Hot Toys ape.

And I'm going to finish painting the Mego heads that I have. I prefer to paint in broad daylight when the lights don't play tricks with my eyes.

Ugh--going to start up piano lessons again...better send the teacher a text message to see if he's ready to start up on Saturday morning.

I got my 10 8x10 photographs for Planet of the Apes. It's what's most popular...everything's black and white...but so cool to have an actual photo for a reference instead of looking at a computer screen. You actually see a lot more detail in the costumes. And there's two great shots of Nova's costume in there.

I love purchasing stuff on the internet!! I get a receipt via e-mail. Hot Toys just asked for a receipt to my gorilla captain. If I had purchased that from a toy store...I would NEVER have found the receipt.

Edited to say...I sent the e-mail to Hot Toys last night. This morning, there was a response from them, asking for a receipt to show proof of payment. That's mighty prompt, dontcha think?
