That sucks! I just let 2 $50 gift cards expire at the end of the year, because SS took the figure stands out of eligibility the last day. I would have bought some Apes if they posted them last month.

I think they planned it that way. They knew of the number of cards they pass out every year, MOST of them come from SDCC.

I believe, it is no coincedence that there is a bump in Gift Card eligible items (the Hot Toys Abe Sapien figure is also listed) two weeks after the SDCC cards expired.

I also hated the fact that Sideshow didn't allow the use of the Gift cards to be combined with the Spooktacular discount deals this year. It's the first year they have done that... and it won't be the last.

This has always been my favorite poster the UK Quad poster... but it goes for CRAZY money on the secondary market:

There are re-prints available for around $50 but I'd like to own an original... someday.

Looks like only Ursus is left. The soldier and captain are both no longer listed on the Gift Card page.

Angel, any idea on what you plan to use? Plaster of Paris? That way you can get an appearance of something running like a stalactite or something that melted. Maybe while it's still drying you could use some gray and black dye and spray it down to get some cool effects. Add a nice stain glass, some church pews, stairs, Organ pipes etc. etc. :monkey5

I'll use a variety of materials: a stiff wooden frame that is bulked up by some layers of paper mache, layers of liquid resin, and/or bondo for the rocklike effects. Plaster of Paris is a good idea, but it'll be heavier and much more fragile than the materials mentioned above. Personally, I'd much rather it has a "plastic like" quality to it for some real lasting strength. After all, I want to keep it around until the end of the world in thirty-nine-fifty something. ;)

Don't expect to see it done any time soon. After all, I still need to paint that Tribunal, and finish Lady Liberty. :whip

I'm working on the stone railing postS right now. After completing one rail, I'll cast it and then make multiple rails as required for the project(s).

Or are you planing the Stairway archway scene where it shows the group shot of Mutant Leaders?

That's what the rails will be for.

Inquiring minds want to know. :naughty
:peace

It all sounds great Angel. I truly hope you have a good time with this one. I still look forward to seeing my favorite Tribunal diorama come together. It's been a nice journey watching that set come along. Do you still need to create anything for that scene, or is everything complete there, just needs painting and figures to be completed?

How much do you have left with Lady liberty? Does she have her crown yet? Will she be holding a book, or are you going to skip that? a Bust might look just as nice.

I like this poster too. I just wish they would have used a gorilla in full ape makeup for the shoot rather than one dressed in one of the background pull over masks.

It makes the poster look a bit rushed. :banghead:banghead:banghead
Not to mention gorillas do NOT have blue eyes!

<sigh> wish I had a gift card that would put a dent in their cost :monkey2

I remember that image from the print ads that came out at that time. Always one of my favorites.

I loved the French poster when I first saw it as an adult, even though the colors are a little garish (Gorillas in GREEN leather?):

Man, do I love classic posters. Would love to own both of these. I'd have to settle for the $50 reprint though (first one). :horror

And now Ursus is gone from the Gift Card page as well. I would have loved to have gotten the Gorilla Captain but didn't have another valid gift card to use.

Wow, it looks like those dirty little apes went quickly.

Nice posters there Ursus.

Angel, I know you'll want to hold back on showing photos of your progress, but I look forward to seeing them asap. Your creations are always top notch and often inspire me to get something done. The bearding fiasco set me back a little, and not being home for so long has also helped take a little air out of my sail. I hope to get back to working on a new film when I get back to Seattle. I hope it's a busy year for me.

I too came across this listing... and I find this piece to be of a VERY dubious nature. It looks NOTHING like the the one seen in the film... even if it was shot only from behind the statue. The proportions and spacing of the spikes of Lady Liberty's crown is WAY off. And Profiles in History provides no photographic proof that the piece was used in the actual 1967 filming on Point Dume.

Profiles in history has sold items in the past with questionable screen use. 30,000 to 40,000 is quite a leap of faith without iron clad documentation of the item authenticity. However, if it was THE statue used in that iconic moment, wouldn't it go for MORE? Just a thought.

Perhaps it was constructed for use in the 1967 filming but was for some reason or another scraped at the last minute. Or it could be one fan's attempt to re-construct a favorite moment from his favorite film. I dunno. :dunno

A couple of minor customizations I've done:

Caeser has the Sideshow Frankenstein manacles and a 21st Century Toys SWAT shield painted silver.

Julius has Taylor's stoogie and his regular shirt turned backwards. I added a little "padding" on his chest and shoulders by wrapping a little toilet paper around him.
I added some craft hair sticking out the sleeves and used an extra set of SS chimp hands painted black. He has some Hasbro glyphs on his shirt in this pic, but I ended up changing that to a smaller SS glyph off a Cornelius tunic painted black.

Ray your Julius is just too cool. I really like what you did to him, especially with the hair around his hands.

Oh yeah...and the shield is wonderful, too.

Hey there Ray,

Great kitbash. It was 21st Century Toys that pulled me into this hobby. :monkey4
Nice use of the craft hair.

Wow PZ, I didn't know all that. :horror
I know how deceptive a prime lens can be. :monkey3

Jessica, have you done anything further with those ape face transplants? :horror
How is the dentistry going? When is the Star Trek convention?:naughty I thought you were going this weekend?

P.S. It all centers around the PLANET of the APES

Cool picture Ray. Were the riot shields actually black or silver in the movie? I know that Medicom Toys made the silver riot shields with their Conquest gorillas. I was thinking the shields were actually black in the movie. Either way, that color looks great in your picture!
