Actually, Akira is usually placed higher than GITS but you don't have to care about popularity. If you don't appreciate Akira for the absolute masterpiece it is and like the inferior GITS more, then own it ese, it's your right, you don't need anyone else's support.

You especially don't want support from otakus.

Ugh. I'm sorry, and I'll catch **** for this, but I can't compare Akira to GITS - I don't even like it mentioned in this thread.

I respect people's opinions about Akira, but I think GITS (movie) was far superior. All a matter of taste. I know.

No two ways about it.

AKIRA is a stupid pretentious entertainment compared to GitS.
And that's only when comparin' manga sources.

Animation and music are the only two good things AKIRA film has.
Everything else about it is trash not worthy of dark yet cool manga.

P.S. AKIRA should be a Netflix series with lots of swears and blood

It's like the first time you saw Sonic and Knuckles fight on the same team. You wanted it to happen for so long. And when it did.....it was a thing of beauty.

I like Besson very much but Valerian looks like Jupiter Ascending, and I liked JA but I don't think it warrants a "must"

Valerian looks too CGI. The main actors are miscast, imo. Not to mention they look like siblings. The trailer made the film look like a video game. I'm only judging the trailer, so the film might be good though.

I don't know if Valerian is based off something, but it looks like it'd be a cool retro euro-comic written by Jodorowsky (before he turned into Paulo Coelho) and drawn by Moebius but as a big hollywood movie, it looks like any other futuristic CGI-fest.

Even this movie looks a little bland if not for the frame-by-frame visual cues from the SAC series and 1995 movie.
