Oh you already have a bunch of work in the heads, bad a$$! Solid roller, ftw, that 383 must rev like crazy and sound just a beastly as they come. What kind of comp ratio are you running? Yeah solid roller needs valve adj more often, that was a reason I went hyd roller, low maintenance but also less rpm. Everything is a compromise. I guarantee you'll be extremely happy making the jump to efi, man I can't wait to check out your ride

My wife's mother said it sounded like an airplane last time she was here. According to the build sheet comp ratio was just a hair over 11. The first time it was fired up, saying it was loud was an understatement. I switched out the intake (single to dual plane) and carb (825 Demon to 750 Holley) to something more manageable, changed the cam to something less aggressive too, but it's still a solid roller. So even in its current form it's still very rowdy. It hates to sit in traffic or drive in it if I'm not getting over 2k rpm often enough. But it drives fine, the only thing really holding it back right now is the 3 speed auto.

Awesome! Yeah the 5 spd makes the car so much more fun

Dropped off to get blasted and eventually powder coated.

Getting a new steering wheel, inexpensive Grant 13.75" that should help with steering more than the huge 16" one. I love it but it's larger than it needs to be. Trying to get to the point that I'm happy performance wise but can drive the **** out of it without stressing cosmetics.

Man pork chop! Looking really great! :hi5: your electric fuel pump doesn’t have issues being mounted so high above the fuel level?

No, no problems other than the noise. Don't know when I'll be able to change that though so I'll have to deal with it for a while yet.

Grant SW.jpg

Put this in Sunday; smaller diameter steering wheel with the new Borgeson PS unit, steering/driving overall should be WAY better that what is was.

Hopefully I'll have more time this weekend to drive around

Steering wheel looks good! I was just wondering about the pump because typically if inline electric pumps aren’t mounted below fuel level they can fail prematurely. I’d realky like to check out your ride Dude, looks so sweet, bet it sounds great

I know the pump is more of a pusher than a puller moving fuel and if not setup that way can fail quicker over time, this is the first time I've used an electronic pump but so far no problems (just noise). I do want to eventually get EFI and sink it in the gas tank. I'll PM you when I got time and we can meet up, I would like to see your Chevelle and what has worked out for you. After the valve job it sounds great, tamer (more even) but still loud :lol

With the upgrades it feels like a different car.

Right on! Sounds like a plan dude! I forget have you swapped the tremec in there yet?

Not yet, though that has always been the goal from day 1. Spent some $ doing all of this, next is the tremec. I do want larger brakes-wheels-tires, adding newer 2" drop spindles. That's an even larger sum. I'm basically getting the car ready for the tremec upgrade, but depending on where I'm at and what I want more it'll be one or the other. Doing this you learn to be patient and just make progress and you'll get what you want in the end. EFI somewhere in all of that...

Yes believe me I know about the patience required to build these cars.....even though it's reall really hard to be patient....that's why I stock pile stuff and then just rip the whole car apart and then do everything hahaha

With all that I've done recently it was a bunch of parts. Have new exhaust tips and waiting on new shocks to arrive. That will probably be enough for a while. Once I get those installed and address some steering issues maybe we can meet up when there's time available, :duff.

Sounds good....I was driving the chevelle today and heard several loud squeaks coming from somewhere then terrible valve train noise....towed her home, pulled the valve cover and there it was, broken pushrod guid plate:gah: messed up my rocker arm too.....but at least no pieces fell into the motor. So now I need a new rocker and I'll be replacing all the damn guid plates :banghead this can be the most aggravating hobby....oh and have to check the pushrod to be sure it isn't bent

Ouch, I'm sorry to hear that. Not absolutely horrible but still a headache (and possibly more...), plus it's your car. Unless you have buckets of money you have to love this hobby to be in it. Best of luck on your repairs, let me know when you're up and running.

Thanks pork chop, yeah it's definitely a hobby you have to love especially, like you said, if you're not rich and can pay to have everything done for you. Good news is I've got all my parts inbound from summit except the push rod which I'll have to order on Monday. I'm going to replace all the guide plates since I don't trust the manelys now....ill keep you posted
