I've been wondering about the McFarlane haters myself. His Spider-Man style was and STILL is the iconic Spidey that the majority of artists go for. I LOVE the Sideshow Spidey 1:1 bust personally.

And as far as Todd McFarlane the human being goes, I'll tell you this much. I sent one letter to him when I was in Iraq in 2003 telling him I was a fan. Next thing you know, I get this monstrous box of every single Spawn issue, a Todd McFarlane figure signed by him, and a bunch of other stuff.

So yeah, that McFarlane guy. He's a real bastard.

Nice story. Not such a bad guy afterall.

I wouldnt knock anybody in the comicbook biz from occasionally coming across as a ****** in public. The amount of super-nerds they have to deal with probably induces the occasional thought of suicide.
_______ or not, McFarlane single handedly took the comicbook world and action figure world to the next level of creativity and capabilities.

His Spiderman is my favorite rendition by a mile.

I have to say, if he is going to support a person from an important group of people, he nailed it right in supporting you.

Thanks for what you do. :rock

I don't understand why everyone hates McFarlane? I've heard he a jerk in person, but I like his art style, even though ut seems no one else here does. He was part of reason I started reading comics when I was a young teen in jr high. I don't like how the veterans automatically dismiss him or his fans as a contributing force for buying comics in the 90's. IMO, this was the start of Hollywood getting involved.

It's not about the person. I have no idea what he's like in person. I just think his art sucks and I'm peeved that it was his art that's inspired a generation of fans to draw like him. He's a pin up artist who's trying to "wow" you on every panel instead of letting those panels tell a story. It's a bunch of lines and scratches that dilineate absolutely nothing. He's modified the looks of these wonderful characters that were created back in the day by the comic masters and he's turned them into freakfests. Spider-Man looks like something from someone's nightmare. It's a terrible change to a great, classic character.

This isn't an attack on him as a person and I think he's done some great stuff in the toy market and he's made a zillion dollars but his comic art and influence has really changed the artistic merit of comics art today for the worse, IMO.

I totally agree as well!

Something Sexy got this answered by Sideshow on the weight of Mola Ram, it's obvious now that HULK bust is not correct as well.

Thank you for your email. We appreciate your interest in our products
and the time you took to contact our Customer Service Department.

The estimated weight for the Mola Ram Premium Format Figure is probably
not correct. The weight listed on the website for the Indiana Jones
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Premium Format Figure is also listed as
seven pounds, but it actually weighs 16. I will inform our web team of this.

I'll say one more thing in the subject of classic artists vs modern artist: I bet if this Hulk 1:1 bust was based on something from a modern artist like Dale Keown or something it would have been better received. I feel people expected something at least on par (in terms of size and presence) with the Spidey and Venom 1:1 busts. Those were based on modern artists.

It's just funny that they decided to go "classic" on this one. I put classic in quotes because people say this is a Kirby Hulk but I just don't see it. Every time someone does a Hulk that's semi-monster-like people like to throw the name Kirby around and therefore making it sacriligious to put the item down. It's a "King Kirby" Hulk so you are not a true fan if you don't know what the source is.

This ain't no Kirby 1:1 Hulk bust. I see the Kirby influence on the PF, but I don't see it here. This just looks like an Universal Monsters 1:1 bust that is painted green. They put a name plate that says Hulk in the front and used some weird LSB format for the chest area. More power to those of you that are buying it, but I just can't believe that this is what most people here had in mind as a Hulk 1:1 bust. This was a highly anticipated product in this board with all the Hulk fans and although you can see the quality of the sculpt itself, this ain't no Hulk for me.

I'm no fan of this bust, but I do see the Kirby influence here. Very prominently in fact. But I agree that most people were probably hoping for something not quite as "classic". My hope was for a more 70's style Hulk, although I probably would've been OK with something more modern. Again, SS has already paid homage to Kirby. Twice now. And with the two most high-end Hulk pieces produced to date. It's time for a different take. Like I said earlier, I wish SS would begin to produce lines within lines by producing silver, bronze, copper and modern versions of a character in their prominent formats like PF and 1:1. I think there's enough demand to make it worth their investment...

I would love to see another hulk versus dio w/ wolverine, a classic hulk 181 cover...
That would be awesome!

Here's your fatal flaw:

:lecture One never pays homage to McFarlane junk.
Just because you don't like his work, doesn't mean that others don't, as so many posts after yours made it evident.

The bug-eye Spider-Man with impossible poses in mind air as he swung by has been copied multiple times by many artists after McFarlane. It's not so much about the bug eyes as it is about the way Spidey moved. Also, Spidey's stature seemed taller and more athletic (I think J. Scott Campbell goes for that too on his covers) and the way way he reacted to his spider-sense was cooler to look at....
