I would love to see another hulk versus dio w/ wolverine, a classic hulk 181 cover. Green hulk with an original tigerstripe wolverine. Or with a ex version being grey hulk vs brown wolvie, homage to the McFarlane hulk 340 cover.

Back on topic, I could make this bust my first 1:1 piece and put my hunt for a 1:1 spidey on hold....

I don't understand why everyone hates McFarlane? I've heard he a jerk in person, but I like his art style, even though ut seems no one else here does. He was part of reason I started reading comics when I was a young teen in jr high. I don't like how the veterans automatically dismiss him or his fans as a contributing force for buying comics in the 90's. IMO, this was the start of Hollywood getting involved.

I've been wondering about the McFarlane haters myself. His Spider-Man style was and STILL is the iconic Spidey that the majority of artists go for. I LOVE the Sideshow Spidey 1:1 bust personally.

And as far as Todd McFarlane the human being goes, I'll tell you this much. I sent one letter to him when I was in Iraq in 2003 telling him I was a fan. Next thing you know, I get this monstrous box of every single Spawn issue, a Todd McFarlane figure signed by him, and a bunch of other stuff.

So yeah, that McFarlane guy. He's a real bastard.

Amongst his greatest faults was bringing the bug-eyed Spider-Man to the world.

I don't know how to break it to you but Marvel comics died in 1981 when John Byrne left Uncanny X-Men in issue #144. It was the true death knell of the great Marvel bronze age.

They DID?! Disney felt they were worth the investment..

The old crusty type dudes have the dull art works of old to enjoy. Nothing wrong with being a fan of modern stuff.

In the end they're just friggin comic books. I'd hate to see a nerd war up in here. :lol

Hmmm...I actually like McFarlane's artwork. I wouldn't mind seeing Mcfarlanes artwork converted into statue form.
Ditto.
:cool:I like Mcfarlane's style of Spidey, Venom and Hulk. I'd love to see a McF Hulk vs Wolverine. I'm praying the new Spider-man comiquette is similar to the one on the Hulk vs Spidey. My favorite version of Spidey!

Pretty convenient of you to only partially quote my post. You left the important part out about the "bronze age."

I could care less about the modern age. Unlike you, I didn't grow up in the 80s/90s being weaned on Transformers, Master of the Universe, GI Joe and Mcfarlane junk. :rotfl

I have to agree. I don't know why some don't like McFarlane. I am not saying I totally like his work but I like his work as much as Kirby and everyone else...most of em anyway. I like Kirby almost as Dale Keown. I also like the movie version too...although not enough to buy statue based on them. Movie is a great media to expand the comic world just like comics is a media in it's own right.

Hulk is my #1 character and I would feel empty if I don't get this Kirby style Hulk 1:1 bust. Missed the Premium Format but this bust will do. I will continue to collect various incarnation of the Hulk. I do wish SS would go beyond the so called "adult collectors" and make the Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk...the scene where Hulk rips Wolverine in half. Its a total bloodbath that I doubts SS is capable at the moment. Seriously, I can look up the artist who drew that scene but it doesn't even matter to me. That scene is my favorite Hulk scene as much as WWH.

Most of my LOVE is in the modern Hulk and I grew up in the 70s. :horror

Thats scene you're talking about is from the Ultimate universe.

The problem with Mcfarlane is when he became famous, he became a jerk.Ask Peter David.

But No doubt his run on IH was short but great.

Yes, I have the full collection of Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk....just had it tuck away and didn't feel like looking it up.

I don't know McFarlane to comments...I am sure you guys have more input about him then me. I do regret, however, collecting those spawn (pvc?) figures earlier. Oh well, not much of a loss as these are fairly cheap and I only bought 5-8.

I don't know how to break it to you but Marvel comics died in 1981 when John Byrne left Uncanny X-Men in issue #144. It was the true death knell of the great Marvel bronze age.

The bug-eye Spider-Man with impossible poses in mind air as he swung by has been copied multiple times by many artists after McFarlane. It's not so much about the bug eyes as it is about the way Spidey moved. Also, Spidey's stature seemed taller and more athletic (I think J. Scott Campbell goes for that too on his covers) and the way way he reacted to his spider-sense was cooler to look at.

If McFarlane used the bug eyes to personalize his take on Spidey and trying to convey emotion for a character wearing a mask then I can live with that.

I would disagree that Marvel died in 1981. There have been plenty of good stories since then. Please give examples of all these storyarcs that are superior to anything after 1981. I am curious just to see where you are coming from more than trying to debate about it. These are afterall only opinions of course.

McFarlanes run on Spidey was awesome. I cannot understand the hat towards his art. Sure he is probably a jerk but so too is Byrne.

Threads like this are why I don't tell any of my friends i collect statues.

Amazing stories are created in comics ATM or in recent years.

JUST TO NAME A FEW:

-Everything Cap America from Brubaker
-Iron Man's world most wanted
-Planet Hulk
-Anihilation
-Greg Pak's Incredible Hercules (Amazing Run!!)
