The Tamashii 3PO is a marvel, and the difference in fit and materials when handling the two droids is stark. But it also cost at least two of these R2s. I'm not interested in opening and closing all the bits and pieces, just having it on the shelf makes me happy. I would've paid double for a die-cast one, but this is what we gets. I can't see how it could've been better for the MSRP, outside of not including all the various doors and compartments.

It's definitely the best looking R2 we have gotten yet. 3PO finally has an accurate droid buddy. I will leave it there.

Hmm, my local comic shop has one for $150, and I'm seriously tempted to get it. It would be nice not to pay for shipping, but I wonder if it might be smarter to order through Sideshow in case there are any issues....

You have to be able to get a replacement either directly from Sideshow or the comic shop can get it from Sideshow if it is broken or somehow fauty? This was discussed in the Vader threads also since that was a breakage plagued release. All logic suggests that just because you buy from a dealer other than Sideshow you can't be on your own if the figure is broken.

Got My R2 and he looks great! Key word "looks" which is the important part because he will go on a shelf never to be played with (really)... But overall it feels very cheap in hand. I wonder how the SS C3PO will be.

I'm afraid to repose my Tama 3PO, and I use gloves when I handle him (honestly)... with R2, I haven't even tried to open any hatches or arms or anything (none of mine swung open when you tip it forward,) but have had fun rolling him around on my desk and playing with the lights. If he was 10% bigger overall, I think I'd be 100% happy - easy to please I guess.:lol

Just to add my two cents, I get what Evilface, Devil and Rorywan are saying. As good as they look together, while posing them I couldn't help noticing the contrast in their respective qualities. Theepio is built like a tank with heavy, solid materials and nice strong joints while Artoo seems made from the cheapest plastics, with flimsy door hinges and accessories that barely hold up or fit together. And say what you will about the Taito clock, but at least its periscope and extended arm stay up easily when extended and its third leg descends at the right length.

Having said all that, given how Sideshow's offerings can vary so wildly in quality, I still consider their R2-D2 a success. While far from perfect, it's packed with features, has a nice array of painted and weathered finishes (especially after giving that dome with an alcohol swab) and is still the best looking 1/6 Artoo to date. Of course, the mind boggles at what Hot Toys can do in the near future, but who knows how long that will be and at what price point. I'm still rooting for Sideshow, but as always will ultimately be voting with my wallet and only pick up the figures that seem worthy of a place in my collection.

(BTW, nice photos there, Rubio. But I noticed the figure looks more accurate with the third leg pushed up a bit.)

Just to note, I like R2. :)

If hAwT tOyZ makes a bestest one for $150, so be it.

I'm glad somebody finally said this. It needed to be said.

The Tama is actually incredibly robust. I had to destroy my first one and it took a sledgehammer to do it right. An initial light blow with a regular hammer barely left a scratch. After a few heavier blows I felt like the hammer would break before the figure did.
