Sideshow 1/6 R2-D2

While i was doing the leg mod i went and retooled the position of the wheels to give some extra height to r2. I removed them completely and made new axles/fittings so they now sit higher. Then i made new covers and painted them up. R2 now stands about 4mm taller. Not the most noticeable of mods but one i wanted to do for a while... then again maybe i'm just a little bit..

Any photos of the take-apart along with tips to get a clean break would be great. I didn't touch the wheels and instead just glued some small pieces of black styrene next to them for added height.

Anyone think Hot Toys will create droids ? I wanted to do strictly hot toys collection but this R2-D2 has everything one could hope for to complete any collection. Don't wanna regret not picking this guy up

Yes. We all do.

But likely the first HT R2 and 3PO will be from Force Awakens.

And HT will probably want to sell all their stock of SSC droids first - they distribute SSC for all of Asia.

collecting is stuff is so dangerous. Like i stated i wanted to stick with only HT but I'm leaning on picking up R2 but then I'm gonna want C3PO, then the Jawa's lol when does it stop !!!!!

You should stick to what you really like, don't worry about the brand, there's no check-list you have to complete.

Really nice work! Regardless of the height issue, it still looks so much better and more accurate with that extra space below his feet.

But likely the first HT R2 and 3PO will be from Force Awakens.

Other than the red arm cast, 3PO and R2 appear identical to their OT appearances. No "skeleton" or "junkyard matte finish" or "head swap" 3PO or "flying rockets" R2 in pics so far but who knows, maybe R2 has pop-out walking legs and 3PO a huge cannon blaster in TFA.

But still, good luck finding a replacement arm for the red one on 3PO.

The R2 in TFA does appear to be much more heavily weathered than we've ever seen him before, but I'm not sure that's really enough reason for HT to make one.

I'd rather they just focus on the multitude of other characters from the movie instead.

It's sort of funny that people assume a HT 3PO and R2 would be the definitive "never buy 'em again" versions when HT has failed to capture Vader and Ben so far and just barely landed a decent fig in the very end with Han. And Chewy looks cool but he was pretty touch and go for quite a while too.

I remember waiting and waiting for a HT T2 Arnie headsculpt that nailed the likeness - and I'm still waiting. Teen Arnie, squashed head Arnie, stunt double Arnie - they've nailed all of those though. Thank God for the sunglasses I guess.
