I think it looks off because sideshows version lacks the wheels r2 has in the second picture.

True, but in the Sideshow picture, 3PO is standing slightly behind R2 (making R2 look slightly bigger than what he is,) yet in the full size pic, 3PO is standing level with R2.

R2 is a little too short, but with some added (slight) wheel lifts, it won't be really noticeable - unlike the Hasbro or Medi "R2's little brother" versions.

Too thin as well, so it's not the wheels. Proportions look pretty good, just too small overall. Pixelpiper did a few comparison pictures earlier in the thread that tells the story.

I think we have established before that the designers of these figures (with very few exceptions) sit in some remote location without access to the internet or books or even dvd's (or blu-ray) so they can check these things before hand.

Yeah, I noticed overall scale issue too - but I think with the lifts it will look okay.

Also, in looking at ref pics, there does seem to have been a couple of slightly different sized R2's - maybe the Kenny Baker version was a little bigger.

I disagree but it's just a matter of opinion.

Not really, if it's too small it is too small. I guess we won't now 100% until the figure is in our hands, but it looks off now and it did before.

If you don't care about it that's a perfectly valid opinion to have, but when the pictures show that it should be bigger that is a little more than my opinion I think.

We have had this discussion to no end in the Vader threads. I honestly don't mind if anyone is happy with the size differences on these figures, but if said people aren't happy enough with that but have to have everyone else agree that the scale is perfect when it clearly isn't I can't help myself. I have to disagree with that. :)

That's all fine and dandy but my opinion is the only one that matters to me. :)

Honestly compared to 3po it looks too small (again)... Somehow all companies underestimate the size of R2.

And on Sideshow's, the panel covers just under the dome and around the vent are WAY too blue compared to the film prop. Why can't Sideshow get these things right?

I agree it's slightly on the smaller side, but I think I can live with that. It may appear completely in scale IRL, so who knows...

But it is very funny how so many different manufacturers seem to make R2 smaller than he should be. Only the Taito clock has gotten it right for a 1:6 scale, but they were probably aiming for 1:5 scale and undersized it for that! :lol

I think that's a promo photo within either a damaged or unfinished r2. I don't believe in the movie does r2 ever not have the blue vents and covers.

As as for height, it's a ill short. It's around 1/4" to short.

In that earlier comp, the toy is leaning back a little more than the prop, so that's adding to the height discrepancy somewhat too.

It seems the SSC R2's dome is shaped a little differently to the prop as well - it looks a little 'straighter' at the sides compared to the prop, which starts to taper inwards - lower. Girth, wheels, yada yada.. :lol
