Like what changed with the gloves? The suit definately looks better

All of the new parts are better than the version 1. I think the older gloves looked more plastic whereas the new ones mimic leather better. Also you have the brand new belt holding hands...which is a greAt look for the figure. I was one that sold off my version 1, got the new one and love it (esp with the HT head on).

The bodysuit is a hue improvement, even better than the HT one. Here the comparison of V1, HT, and V2.

I remember you also went the custom route with the kaiyodo mask and gear. It really adds a lot to it:

Killer shot right there. Vader looks impressive, most impressive

Yeah I'm turning my kaiyodo in a reveal sculpt so I started from scratch again. Definately gonna use the metal dome from the new hasbro black helmet. Looks like the best dome on the market to my eyes.

Looks great. Which dome is that? Modded Sideshow?

The Kaiyodo (and the derivatives like Hurricane's) facemask is still the best over the HT mask to me. It feels just a whisker too small at times, but that's probably because I'm working on the HT helmet, which is definitely a little overscale (matched to the oversize overall height.)

And yeah, I do love the newest Sideshow Vader bodysuit (huge, huge, huge improvement over the DX one,) but I do have major concerns about the pleather on it de-laminating over time. It feels sort of fragile and like it will peel sooner rather than later. Hopefully not.

And the chest armor is not a fun one to paint and get super glossy is it?:lol I have really struggled with that. And I'm working on THREE custom Vaders.:slap

I recommend spraypainting it with the right gunmetal grey. Then painting the black by hand as clean as you can, and then covering it with a gloss coat.

Tamiya makes a great gun metal spray can, but I don't think you can spray a lacquer-based paint like tamiya sprays onto a vinyl kit like the Kaiyodo. You could prime it - Tamiya does a white fine detail spray primer - but I'm worried that even that stuff is lacquer-based.

Thanks.:wave

Your Vader don't stop to impress me. Incredible shot. Incredible. More realistic than a screenshot! :clap

Thanks, man.

Thanks. It's actually the new ESB (looks kind of ROTJ) dome by hurricane, I got mine 2 weeks ago. Looks better proportioned than the modded SSC dome, which looks pretty good from a 3/4 perspective, but not so much straight on.

Yeah, painting the chest armor was the most difficult. I used a regular paint brush, and sealed it with gloss. Difficult to keep it smooth. It's one of the few things I would upgrade if a HT ROTJ came out.

In the past few weeks I've been playing around with the Hot Toys Rogue One Darth Vader head, and I wanted to see if I could modify it to better resemble the ESB/ROTJ helmets, specifically concentrating on these areas:

1) Repaint the right tusk silver
2) Make a larger chin vent
3) Raise the dome over the eyebrows
4) Remove the widow's peak
5) Deepen the nose insert

I started by disassembling the Rogue One head into it's components:

The silver nose insert was pushed out from the back, trimmed shorter and reinserted deeper into the nasal cavity:

The chin vent was enlarged with a file, and a new photoetched mesh was inserted and later painted:

The widow's peak was cut off, then the contour smoothed and polished and the dome remounted higher up and tilted back on the head:

Here is the modified helmet to better reflect the ESB style and details:

Nice work, Min-art! But poor Sideshow DX Vader - pretty soon there'll be figures posted here that only use the boots from the original figure.

My son looked at my collection yesterday and said " Dad...with all the Imperial Troops you have you really need a Darth Vader".

I'm not big on messing with my figures. After reading through some on the comments this may not be a bad way to go.

As much fun as I've had modifying my Sideshow figure, the one that needs the least amount of work and is best out of box is the Hot Toys Rogue One Vader if you can find it for a reasonable price, and not tied to any specific look.

I thought about buying that one and it looks like I missed the boat.

Wow, Minature-Art. That is impressive. Amazing what slight tweaks here and there does for Vader's helmet.

I own the RO Vader and I'm really happy with it but it's very tempting to make similar modifications. Not that I could replicate such quality, mind you.
