:eek Very sorry to hear that, Praetorian. Did you order from SS? They should be able to help you out there, if so.

The trex arm has a big chip missing and his neck has white paint specs on it that wont rub off

Have to send back for a replacement.

I just recieved mine today, and there is a spot near the tricerratops leg where paint cracked. So, I may replace it. It is awesome though. Will post pics much later tonight

Finally got some pics. Hope you like. I highly recommend this, it looks fantastic in person. It is also not as gory in person as the pics show it to be. But yea the pics make it look real bloody. :rock

Very cool pics! :rock That upclose shot of the T.rex maw is particularly good! :banana

Nice photos! I found my incandescent lamp gave a nice golden hue to the photos I snapped, while the flash made the colors really stand out better, particularly the bloodstained teeth of the theropod.

Scar-
I stand firm (no pun intended) on my opinion of the feet. The Tyrannosaurus, for example, has minimal detailing in the toes, which actually look less detailed than those of the $20 Papo Tyrannosaurus toy. Given the price of the statue, I felt it was fair to point out. However, I do like the fact that they appeared sullied on the bottoms. You can literally hear the dry earth grinding against their feet during the battle.

My dio along with some other T-Rex models...

I'm planning to collect all the dinosaurs from the SS Dinosauria line but these models cost more than $350 in this ^^^^ty country...

* Ignore the dates on the pic my camera got screwed up and I can't set the correct dates.

That's fair with the Tyrannosaur feet, though I have no issue with the detail on them whatsoever. I understand the persnicketiness given the pricetag, but frankly with the vast number of ways they could have screwed up on this piece, that minutia is the very least of my concerns. Even so, if one were to vociferously issue concern over that, SS could just as easily draw attention to the juvenile nature of the T.rex in the statue, perhaps arguing that phalangic scales became more pronounced with age as we see with scaling on monitors, crocodilians, and on avian raptor talons. Hell, take a look at the feet on the T.rex maquette! The JP diorama we received was STAGGERINGLY different in terms of the paint apps from what we saw on the website. We all had the very same understandable fears with this exact piece and subsequent line. I was extremely reticent to get my hopes up for this dream collectible line only to then have them dashed as I did with the JP diorama. The release of the faux bronze JP dio accentuates that the detail on the piece is venerable, but the factory paint application razed the possibility for a high quality JP collectible, a hope which a great number of us had nurtured for quite a few years. After having had mine repainted, it is easily one of the most prized (and cumulatively expensive) statues in my collection, but it took a lot of work to get there and thankfully with Dinosauria we have been given the perfect marriage of detail and paint application, safeguarded by the low cap on ES.

The Papo T.rex is quite detailed and has a place on one of my shelves, but it's a good rendition of a JP T.rex rather than an actual Tyrannosaur. Sideshow is fortunate to not be beholden to a feature film in creating these products and has much more liberty in engendering paleontologically accurate pieces with an eye to originality of rendition.

EDIT: Forgot to respond to this... Outstanding collection you have there! :rock Those three in the foreground are all part of my collection as well. The T.rex vs. T.rex vs. Triceratops diorama is quite cool. Very nice indeed!

I want to share a problem with mine, I hope it doesnt happen to anyone else. When I grabbed the statue to put onto the base, I heard the paint crackling. well, some paint fell off by the tricerratops rear leg and upper back. So, I had to return it for an exchange. Did this happen to anyone else?

Dyscrasia-

I sell all those in my store. Shoot me a PM sometime and I'll see if I can get you anything like that for cheaper.

Yes, we all know the Paposaurs are based on JP dinosaurs, and therefore lacking scientific accuracy. I merely mention them because they have some of the best detail you can get for your money. I don't really want to debate the quality of the diorama animals' feet, though. My overall impression is that the piece is astounding, nothing less.

So the Sideshow JP piece was a letdown? I haven't received mine yet, and now you've got me all worried.

First of all, I would like to thank you for the offer, I really appreciate it. I'm also aware of your store since I visit the Dinosaur Toy Blog forum quite often(even though I'm not a registered member).

But the problem is if I order a product with that size and weight, no matter how cheap I get it, it will end up in the customs office and I will have to pay another additional $100(or more; which is tax + some stupid fees) to receive it.

Glad you were impressed overall with the piece, and I am a huge fan of the Paposaurs. As you say, the ratio of money to detail is extremely favorable. I have all (with the exception of the Pteranodon which I still can't justify purchasing as one of my biggest disappointments with JPIII) of the Paposaurs sitting here next to my Barbasol DNA canister! :rock

And yes, everything imaginable went wrong with the JP piece at the factory level, with the paint job being the most glaring facet. It's such a grandiose disappointment in that regard and so far removed from the color scheme of JP lore that I had to have mine repainted. I have shots of the repaint posted here, and with a proper repaint it looks simply outstanding. Though certainly not a cheap customization, it is now one of my grails, as not only an individual obsessed with paleontology, but with Stan Winston's creations.

Just pretend you don't see the teeth. :)

Actually, I only own a few of the Papos myself, because I can't afford the whole lot. That may change when I get a new shipment in.

Anyway, I'm glad you managed to get a good custom for that piece. I'll probably keep mine naked, just because I'm sort of a purist in that regard. What about the quality of the sculpt itself, is it good?

I know, but I simply can't get around the teeth... or JPIII. :monkey4

Oh the sculpt itself is exceptional. If you plan on getting the piece without customization, go for the faux bronze. The detail is outstanding in keeping with the SWS dinos. Really the paint apps were the sole detraction for me. It looked as if a child was given a sharpie marker and set loose upon it. Go faux bronze or customize the painted version.

They already shipped it to me, so I don't have much choice at the moment. I thought the faux bronze was out of production?

My photographer took some outstanding photos of the Papos if you want to see them - they're right on my website. :)

You might be able to find one on eBay or from some other retailer. Sideshow's website did sell out of them some time ago.

i just got this dio and the pictures posted here, although great, dont do this piece justice once in-hand. i love all the detail that went into this piece and really looking forward to the coming dios and maquettes. sideshow did an outstanding job and i hope they keep it up and give us more awesome dinosauria pieces, i'll try and take some shots to post later on.

Glad you've jumped on board with Dinosauria! No doubt we'll all be very surprised and pleased by what's coming down the pike! :chew
