Quick question for you Dinosauria fans. I recently purchased the regular T-Rex vs. Triceratops diorama for a friend of mine for Christmas. However, I just got a great deal on the JP Diorama for her and since she's a big dinosaur fan, but is really crazy for JP, I've decided to give that to her instead.

I was planning on buying the EX T-Rex vs Tricer, but should I just keep the regular for myself and deal with not having the skull?

Damn, must be a close friend. I wish I had friends that buy me expensive collectibles. :lol Joking aside, the skulls are really cool to have, but since you already have the regular, if you will be fine without the skull I'd just stick with it. I haven't really decided what to do with the skulls, so in my opinion they are not necessities. That said I'm only intending to get the exclusives of these statues if possible, but that's more because I tend to be a completist and if I have one skull I want them all.

I know what you mean. Unfortunately, I have the Carnotaurus EX with the skull displayed next to it. I was hoping to only collect the EX versions of the pieces I wanted as well. I may be able to deal with it, though.

Well if you've already got an exclusive and the skull displayed next to the piece I would go for an exclusive. But that's my OCD talking.

I never go for the exclusives myself. I just consider the statue to be the most important part, which already costs a sizable sum anyway.

I like to have the skull next to the piece so that those unfamiliar with paleontology, but still blown away by Dinosauria, can look at what the fossil should appear to be and then use that as a cross reference for the statue of the animal(s). It helps observers to appreciate the accuracy to an even greater extent.

I wish they would do two skulls for the dios. But I know that would make it nearly impossible to do them as exclusives.

My T-Rex Maquette has a Rex tooth replica displayed beside it...people love picking it up and then staring at the teeth on the old guy as well...heh heh

Easy to compare a miniature skull of comparable scale to the maquette, though; looking at the T.rex teeth on the dio or maquette is cool just to take in the size of the animal, but it's not that great of an overall check on accuracy as a reference, save to be sure that the teeth are indeed the bulky banana-shaped Cretaceous, organismal railroad spikes they are intended. Comparing the teeth on the T.rex statues to the Carnotaurus maquette is an cool theropodal comparison. I have one of my T.rex tooth replicas on an adjacent shelf with my C.megalodon teeth. It's humbling to say the least.

Got any recommendations for places to buy fossil replicas? I'm trying to look at the manufacturers themselves, which I'm hoping will keep prices lower for my customers.

The skulls that come with the exclusives are the same size as the heads on the sculptures ? Wow..that would be impressive. There might be a couple other similarly sized replica skulls out there though. I think I've seen at least one..maybe it was Dinostoreus ?

I orig. bought mine from a local guy who used to sell real fossils and replicas around here..now he teaches paleontology at the college.. so no more sellling..lol

My last replicas came from you Dan..those Charcharadontosaur and Spino teeth have put to good use.. :D

Yep, the exclusive skulls are spot-on in size with the statues, though the T.rex skull is a touch small but with such minor variations in size among organisms of a given species, it still fits superbly.

The Dinostoreus skulls are quite a bit larger, though they seem nice from the pictures I've seen.

I purchased my fossil replicas from a few old friends who sold me a good deal of my real fossils. I usually keep my eyes open when I go to conventions or auctions. If I had to go with some replicas again, though, I'd be giving you my business, Dan. There are more than a few enticing pieces on your site. :D

Dang... the Rex maquette's head is about 3 1/2 " long..what's the measurement on the skull ?

I figured 1-2" judging by the pics I've seen. I have one Rex Skeleton that a skull close the right size..but I don't to remove it just to display it.

I've been tempted to sculpt a 1/1 Rex skull wall plaque but space is an issue again.

Looks to be about 2, 2 1/2 inches just based on an estimate I did with a dollar bill from the computer chair. :lol The other skulls are pretty much spot-on. The T.rex skull is a touch on the small side, but still quite good as a comparison piece.

Thanks, luckily I have two rulers right here whenever I need to check something... and one is in centimeters for those foreign transactions.. :D

You know..I wonder if the thought occured to the guys behind this line to also offer full skeleton mounts in the same scale ?

Could be pretty cool I bet...of course they would just include some dead dinos or a skeleton in a piece... you can imagine what I mean based on popular paleo art... ;)

Full skeletons are certainly a possibility, though I don't think they would be the main focus. The line seems concentrated around depicting the animals as they would have been in life, though I'm sure there are ways to work corpses or skeletons into the framework. :D

Ah, now there's an idea. Dinostoreus and Favorite might have market control as far as skeleton models are concerned, but if anyone could give 'em a run for their money, it's Sideshow.
