Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

To me, 3 areas kept the ANH Vader from that.

- Height
- Dome
- Cape

Improve all those areas and keep everything else that was right about ANH Vader and you'll have one damn fine figure. I always felt there was almost a PF quality to the ANH Vader, but the factors I mentioned do hurt it a bit.

Totally agree, and those were the three areas I changed on mine and it made a big difference. If Sideshow addresses those and keeps the same quality as the ANH they will have a winner.

You forgot the Audrey Hepburn length gloves! They were like a 1/2 inch too long.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

I don't get why people want lights in the figure. I know it will be cool and freaking awesome. But to be honest I wouldn't use it. And I don't want to pay €20,- more for something I would use 1 time and never ever again... It's just a cool feature nothing more nothing less. And as some people already said; if they just fix the 3 points of the ANH version (dome, cape and height) this could be the best 12" Vader ever made (until now)!
He doesn't need lights for that :dunno

And something I'm afraid of is that the lights wouldn't work properly. And that could piss of a lot of the "OMG I want lights in Vader" fans :wink1:

No lights would definitely not be a dealbreaker and I won't complain as long as they nail the other points everyone's mentioned (height, dome, cape, gloves -- it's like a mantra!), for sure. At the same time, I'd still think it was cool if they were included and I'd use it for display purposes or photos. I'm sure Sideshow considered it, so if they're not there, I'm guessing there'll be a good reason.

What about a c3po with light up eyes??? I'll use that more than once....

I could live without lights on Vader, no problem, but no lights for 3PO's eyes would mean this cat starts flipping desks and other miscellaneous furniture!

:goodpost: It would be amazing - seeing BD Luke Besp lit by those lights!

But has SSC ever done lights to this degree on a 1/6 fig before? Seems like it would be tough to get right. They didn't do it at all for 1/6 Han Carb, then did with 1/4 Han Carb - but that's PF.

I just think that in SW, you didn't really see Vader in a dark room much (the Ben/Vader duel's bright TV style lighting looks like it's from an ep of "Happy Days"), but in ESB and ROJ, he was in dark rooms for the duels, throne rooms, SD bridges etc., so it's part of the iconic look for those movies.

The recent IG88 had a light up head, very well done & bodes well for C3PO, but like others have said no real need on the Vader as long as the Dome & cape are corrected I'm even alright with the height of the ANH version

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

I read the title on this thread and thought Sideshow had posted the gallery.

pfffftt...........

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

I think the stormies could do with an update myself.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

I'd be fine w/o lights... especially as when things are lit up the lights tend not to look as nice as something that was painted. But I'm sure whatever direction Sideshow goes with this it will be awesome.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

I was surprised by the light paint apps on the ANH Vader. While obviously not the same as true lights, they got some sort of effect with the paint that makes them look lit even if they're not.

Lights are a nice added feature and can make expensive pieces feel worth the price, but lights as features of a character are a bit wasted, most people will use them briefly and leave them off the majority of time.

The only time I think lights are really necessary are certain display bases, where the light is part of displaying the piece. Like if Han in Carbonite had a spotlight over him to mirror the look from the movie, that would have been cool and used with frequency. Lights in Vader's chest box and belt would be used occassionally for photos or showing off the figure but be off most of the time.

Re: Darth Vader ESB/ROTJ Removable Helmet/Full Reveal

I sure as hell don't need lights on this one. Like a few have all ready said, I'd turn them on once and probably never again.

I'm sure the sculpt, expression and eyes will be like this:

Pretty much. I thought it was a good all around Vader. Eyebrows don't make sense on a burnt head, and Vader wasn't always sad, defeated guy under the mask. It is more of a "I'm still a bad mofo" Vader. I thought of is as what Vader would have looked like while brooding in his pod on the Star Destroyer before his dome came down. Anakin/Vader is an angry guy.

Awesome! Thx for the conformation, Nathan :rock

I'll be fine without lights. Just curious to see how much better this version will be, cos to be honest, I thought the ANH one was pretty great, despite the few shortcomings.
