I'm not sure why it's so difficult for Sideshow to translate the 1/5 statue of Snake Eyes and Timber to 1/6 scale. I'm on the fence with this $200 figure. My wife said, "really?" I'm on my 3rd time changing the pants on my Snake Eyes kit bash to increase poseability. I'm one of those that purchased the Waypoint diorama to get Timber; $50 on eBay. Like many who were not satisfied with the 1st version of Snake Eyes, I went and created a kit bash.

What sweater did you use, ACI Toys? Does it fit well?

Pants, shirt (yes the shirt is new), jacket, headgear. I call that an "outfit." Literally only his gloves and boots are recycled as far as clothes are concerned. Don't get me wrong, I really wish he had some new weaponry, but he still shares a lot less with other Joes than say Duke or Flint.

A head counts as headgear? Let me get this straight. A plain black shirt, jacket, pants with cheap looking knee pad, two heads, recycled parts, and wolf constitutes a 200 dollar figure? Hmm... Ok. Duke and Flint at least have the excuse that they cost about half as much.

My only complaint with Timber is the legs/feet....Dont like the position and/or articulation of them...Other than that, I think its a great figure...I think the detail of the snarling sculpt is wonderful, even if it could be a bit more aggressive looking...

10 dollars less than Superman...food for thought.

<start sarcasm>But you don't get a yawning wolf and a baggy sweater. Think about it, Superman was fitted in TIGHTS with barely any extra material. We get plenty of extra material with Snake Eyes. Also, Superman had an actual face sculpt that resembled a real life actor. You know how hard it is to get a face sculpt just right on something that was drawn? :1-1:</end sarcasm>

Superman had a donation to the Reeve's Foundation built into the price as well. Keep that in mind. :wink1:

That's actually not what we were debating at all.

Yeah, the point is that that isn't nearly as much tooling cost and alot of other figures. There isn't a lot that is really new to this figure. Heck the is alot more new tooling in the Crimson Guard which cost about 140.00. Let me see for the crimson guard, we have a new head, new gun, new boots (well the top part), new pants, new shirt (which is actually rather complex compared to the Denali jacket), undershirt, etc. So, you can make the arguement that The Crimson Guard is a better value. Even, Zartan is almost all new, but doesn't come with a wolf. I don't see the price point of this kitbashed figure at all. I get the feeling that Sideshow knows that a Snake Eyes will selling reguardless how much effort is put into the figure; and from the looks of it, I see alot of effort put into this figure. Most of the effort seemed to go to Timber which wasn't necessary.

Glad to see you defending it though and glad you like it. I am just really disappointed in this figure especially after their statue which got everthing right.

Finally got a chance to comment here...

Well, I think it's pretty telling that even those defending the figure aren't saying it's awesome or anything. Usually we get a lot of that with a Sideshow GI Joe preview - not this time. Not a single one in this thread that I can find (mind you I've been skimming so I might have missed the one or two really positive comments ;) ).

Admit it guys - this is a lackluster effort at best.

Even if SE V1 didn't cost a whopping 200 bones, it really needed to be a hit out of the park. This is certainly not the case here. It's... alright. Just alright. I admit, I will probably preorder, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't hope for some improvements.

I think the big thing is the goggles. Type of mask aside (yes, I would prefer one like the statue), the small goggles really throw everything off, since the sweater/jacket is so bulky.

I'm not too fussed about the jacket, as you can take it off. I have to say though, I would have preferred the Beach Head/Stalker sweater to this, but it's not quite a deal-breaker.

To Sideshow: Make the goggles bigger, and include the black sweater, and that will go a long way to improving this figure.

Another comparison shot. I think the new body, shirt and visor are HUGE improvements, and an accurately scaled Timber is just icing on the cake. :clap

That's a rather unflattering picture of the first figure, admit it.

Personally, I'm glad I got it (and right from the beginning of the line, too). I will PROBABLY still get this, but Sideshow's first version will still be my default, I think.

Khev is defending the hell out of this figure like it's from Star Wars.

You should have said I'm defending it like its a PF. :lol

Ha ha, I'm not about to die on the battlefield of "this is a good value." I'll pretty much leave those criticisms alone. ;) I just think its unfair for so many to label it a total rehash or mostly kitbashed.

That's a rather unflattering picture of the first figure, admit it.

I specifically pulled that picture from the Cool Toy Review photo gallery which I believe is known for have some of the best figures pics around. It ain't unflattering, its the figure! That pic perfectly showcases how dopey the old 1/4 scale visor looked and how wimpy his shoulders and arms were. The first pic looks like young Steve Rogers dressing up as SE for Halloween and the second pic is all SNAKE EYES.

And regarding the new one, I've said that the new visor/Timber setup is indeed a home run. Or awesome if you prefer. :D The goggled version? Not quite but as I've said before if you just lose the jacket the form fitting shirt pictured above will probably suffice as a nice commando sweater without making the head look small in comparison.

I'm trying to make myself like this figure, especially since I jumped into the line too late to pick up the first Snake-Eyes. I need him to round out my Joe collection, which lacks only Duke and Flint. Plus, this has always been my favorite version of everyone's favorite Joe.

I think we're all hoping they "fix" this version before they ship...mainly the goggles on the commando head, the sewn in kneepads, and the bulky sweater. I haven't felt this disappointed since the Siegie "thriller" jacket. I don't think the pics do him justice - the black is hard to capture, and the different shades from glossy flat black on the boots, gloves and head to the deeper blacks of his clothing also make him look lackluster.

Plus, as mentioned - a lot of effort went into Timber, but also drove up the price. I would have prefered a straight up commando only version without the visor head, sword and wolf for a sub-$150 price.

The first version had better gloves, kneepads and webgear, and the falchion sword, but had a skinny body, tiny feet and big visor. As many have said, bashing this new commando version and the original would be the way to go. But that is a very expensive solution for the "ultimate" Snake-Eyes.

I will be pre-ordering anyways today.
