Haha. Yeah that's how I think I came across this. Had a saved search for SS Exclusives and the pistol popped up.

And, hey, guess what?

We have the first in hand photos of a Sideshow figure... and there's no sign of a meltdown and imminent thread lock!

Looks like the child-rearing hips are tailored into the outfit. Maybe we'll get a baby TIE Pilot and AT-AT Driver too.

Wow, this is already out too.

No shipping notice on this one from Sideshow yet.

The helmet looks toyish to me, the eyes are the same shine as the helmet, no variance -- not the various sheens of the HT TIE helmet.

Yeah the helmet could be better. It's really just black without a lot of details and the lenses just being black is somewhat disappointing. The outfit and chest box seems alright though. I'm not a fan of the way Sideshow's gloves look.

To be fair, and I have been quite disappointed with some of sideshow recent stuff, they seem to have got the helmet right in terms of look and feel of the generic tie pilot helmet including lenses which are same as rest of helmet on the basic helmet.

And now for the obligatory page of reference photos:

Noticed there were different helmets even in '76:

Magic of Myth Exhibition with single silver ears (like the Sideshow):

And some without ears at all:

This pic shows the one error that all TIE pilot toys have - onscreen, the pilots had that extra smaller hose coming out of the lower part of the chest box, but the costume pics didn't show it, so all the toys (including the Sideshow) only ever have the bigger two hoses that go to the helmet.

I think one of the Medicoms has the side hose; may be more of a ROTJ thing. Sergiu would know.

Huh - didn't realize Medi did a variant and yeah, it has the hose.:clap

Damnit - I can't rep you back!:lol

Though not sure why it's only on that Medi pilot - seems like they should all have it.

And you can see it in ROTJ, but judging by the stormies and DSC's in the shots where you see it, that's all recycled ANH footage.

It's a long story, but not all TIE Pilots had the gray hose.

Some shots of the TIE Pilot parted out on eBay. Body looks different, no neck articulation from the look of it.

The chestbox is a bit strange having parts from both ANH and ROTJ TIE Pilots: the gray rockers seem to be from ROTJ but the squares from ANH. Of course the first screen used pic posted above by Kuat is from SDS and there were some changes made to that on screen. BTW considering just the chestbox, regular Medi TIE Pilot, GG minibust and Attakus 1/5 statue are supposed to be ANH pilots, and Marmit is ROTJ (but no gray hose)

501st consider this an ANH Chestbox

And this a ROTJ chestbox

And here are some screen used TIE Pilots:

Interesting - I assumed the TIE's were all the same due to some ANH-looking footage being used in ROTJ.

Jkno, do you know what type of Imperial troops these guys in the blue coveralls are? I don't even recognize their helmets.

We bring light to a Star Wars character that has, to our knowledge, never been recognized by the fans or a toy manufacturer!
We are calling it the "Mechanical Crewman".
Here is a picture of the helmet we created for the costume."

I'm ok with this being a "basic" tie pilot. I like that early '70's look. Now would I have paid $20 more for one of the more interesting versions? Absolutely. Maybe we're not leaving them enough feedback.
