Maybe it doesn't look right because the lines around the nose and eyebrows are so defined and all the pictures we see they are very subtle?

I say again...I really think it's that the paint is laid on too thick. Thin the paint applications, and the piece will look much closer to Ian.

I'd say it is off only if you don't know who it is.

But that's the problem. I know who it is. (i happen to feel that ep4 princess leia doesn't look accurate either but i digress)

I showed a friend who doesn't collect but is a huge star wars fan... he didn't think it looked right. But then again, another friend thought it looked 'ok'.

Looking at the eyebrows, it's definitely one part of the problem. The prototype has big white eyebrows when in fact it should be a very light brown. I hope they fix it!

Actually won't we see the Sidious sculpt on 9/4 not 9/6? We usually see preview pics two days before the PPO. Hopefully we will see the exclusive then too! Hopefully Oluf will send those original sculpt photos to Sideshow and we will see both sculpts sooner!

I say the Palpatine sculpt is 99.9% dead on. Still don't know about the Sidious sculpt, but I can at least tell it is RotS makeup for sure.

I see a lot of Palpatine in the sculpt but your right certain things are a bit off. For example he looks too well toned when in fact in EPIII he was quite flabby around the neck area, cheek, etc...The paint job is too tanned and your right about the eyebrow color as well. But he definitely looks more fit and a bit younger in the sculpt.

Inevitably there are going to be discrepencies; after all it's not like we're gonna get an absolutely flawless sculpt of any figure--besides, we're looking at a tiny little head here. Regardless of those issues, however, this is one figure where the sculpt is so strong and well-done that the other issues are really minor flaws that don't distract from the main portrait. I can live with the little things as long as it has such a strong feeling to it. Other may have really distracting problems, but somehow with this figure I don't mind them at all--it's just an unbelievable figure.

Don't misunderstand when i say this, Becuase I'm so pleased that sideshow is making my two favorite PT versions of my Favorite Bad guy! But I THINK I figured out what it is that seems "wrong" about him, and it's not his face. granted the skintone seems off, but this is a prototype, and I'm sure sideshow will fix it, the face sculpt looks PERFECT to me, but something is still bothering me, and i think I finialy noticed it. Ian M. Has a somewhat wide head. It looks like the head is a FRACTION too narrow. If you look at the way his hairline is shaped in some of the comparason pics , you can kinda see it. And even then, it's a 1/6 scale replica, and it's going to retail for around 60$ US. It's not going to be perfect, or it would cost ALOT more. To me, It's fine, It looks like Palaptine enough that I won't ever confuse him for anyone else. And I'll be there to PPO in the 6th, who's with me!?

Sides, It could of been M"UCH worse, imagine if the finished sculp looked like this?

To me, the sculpt is perfect. The discrepencies I notice really deal more with the translation of a human being into plastic form. The hairline issue that's been mentioned, really comes down to natural hair having transparency in the hairline area at times, more so in older folks and with white hair and a pale complexion, some images will make Ian's hairline look quite different from others. The other translation discrepency is the eye brows don't appear as defined in reality as this figure, and a thinner coat of white or a shade between white and his flesh tone could work form some of that as well. Again, these things are more traits of translating reality into a permanent 3D form, and especially at this scale, that doesn't always translate easily.

Thank you for this comparison pic because it confirms what I suspected.

The pattern on the sash is completely wrong. The film costume has those Celtic knot-like stripes where as the figure has a zigzag pattern. I hope that is something that gets corrected.

Not exactly like they can just flip this one up and say "All good!" :D

To be totally honest I am really surprised people are once again pointing out what's "wrong" instead of seeing this as a great piece. I think some people expect flat out perfection.

Well, I tell you what, go find IM and ask him to dress as Palpatine and stand in the corner so you can have a better likeness. Of course, I am sure people would still say he didn't have proper makeup if he did it.

My only real complaint is that he looks like he just spent the summer on a Naboo beach. He's way too tan.

Good point. Don't forget that Charlie Chaplin once entered a look a like contest and came in third place!

a word to those who complain about the sculpt. you probably have two choices.. not buy this excellent piece because you are have CAS, or sculpt your own so you can get it exactly the way you want it. :D

Its threads like this that make me ashamed to be a SW fan. For hells sake. His clothes don't zig zag enough? He doesn't have enough loose skin under his chin. His forehead isn't wide enough? Some of you seem to have forgotten that LFL likes their products to be idealised versions of actors, not exact portraits. :lol

He looks awesome. I have no complaints about him. I am there and I will get mine before any of you.:D

Criticism of a piece is healthy for the hobby, in my opinion. Companies show off prototypes and on numerous occassions, they use our feedback to make proper adjustments. Sideshow has done it before.

Plus, that's what forums like this one are mostly about. People sharing their opinions, be they positive or negative, about a piece. True, I think that this headsculpt is pretty sharp looking, but that doesn't mean that we have to blow off other's opinions with tired old, "...well, if you don't like it, don't buy it..." line. It's weak and insulting to fellow Freaks.
