Nathan, Nathan Nathan, you dont have to sit here, in YOUR own thread and defend yourself! There is absoloutley nothing at all wrong in what you said! I dindnt even take any notice on the comment or either the sweepshop thing, people are just so idiotic, i even had to read it 3 times , cos i didnt even understand what all the fuss was about ! its a shame some people want to make things out of nothing, i mean its a thread about custom figures! Why does the racist card have to be pulled out! Dude's get a life, i feel really sorry for you Nathan! All i can say on the matter is ...lol Nathan ignore them, obviously jelous about your customisinglol

Beto will be the first to admit he has limited English. He jokes about it when I talk with him on messenger sometimes. I don't really see the big deal in Nathan's comment to be honest. :dunno

Just sounds like Nathan couldn't really talk with him much, which is exactly what I have heard from DarthMagnus (who is spanish) and One's Customs (who is also Spanish), when they were trying to talk with Beto.

Guys, this is also TEXT on a message board. Tone, facial expressions and all that stuff is lost. Knowing Nathan, I know he wouldn't mean anything by it, he's just stating facts. If you're sensitive about something like that, just check yourself and realize these are text posts.

I'm going to have to agree with this... its very easy to take statements out of context. 95% of language is non-verbal and 78% of statistics are made up on the spot :lol

From SS explanation it sounds like his intention was just to say they speak limited English, versus suggesting there is something wrong with that. Maybe it did not need to be said, but aside from that it sounds like nothing more was meant by it.

It did not need to be said. And my response was not race related.

Beto and Lupita were hesitant about coming to the Xpo because one of their concerns was in person communication. A lot of convincing had to be done so they would feel comfortable and not worry about it. They were told that all that mattered was their work, that people were interested in meeting them because of their work, not their English language capabilities.
For everyone's information, Beto had replied to the comment right away to express his discomfort about it, but he erased it. I chatted with him late yesterday night and he said he had erased it because he didn't want to get into any arguments, but did tell me he got 2 pms from other fellow freaks who didn't not agree with the comment.

It's got nothing to do about race. It's about giving the wrong impression about the show and the artist. To tell someone from the UK that the show wasn't "as nearly as big as it sounded" is your own personal opinion, to which you are entitled. The problem is, because of who you are (one of the best painters and a Sideshow painter) your words and comments may have more weight to others (even if they might not be true) than the regular boardie. Yes, you are free and completely entitled to your opinion, but the way we express things have consequences. People were in fact offended, they just won't post it because either they don't think it deserves the attention or to avoid a stupid internet argument (and no, I did not tell them about it, they read it before I did). They got better things to do like organize the next show or make awesome figures. But I'm neither an organizer of the Xpo or an artist, so I felt the need to express, because like I said before, I want more of these shows happening and I want to meet the artists in person and I hope they are not scared away by this type of comments.
By the I way, I always come to this thread to see your wonderful work. I was having a good day. I just had to respond at the comments.

Did Nathan know about this? I'm sure if he did, he would have worded what he said differently or not have said it at all. Still, after all said and done, he simply stated a fact.

I think the comment was definitely irrelevant and unnecessary! What matters is his work. His work is simply amazing. The guy has the full package. He's a self taught sculptor, painter. Lupita is a phenomenal tailor! Something I think some of these artist/painters are jealous of.

People are either being too quick to vilify here, or looking for their weekly drama fix. :lol

I didn't see anything wrong with what SS typed and myself, read it as "it's unfortunate that the language barrier kept us from having a good discussion." :huh

Though I will add, the irony that SS doesn't belong to a certain clique here did not go unnoticed.

Hi guys,

True, I don't NEED to defend myself, but I like to communicate, and sometimes that means ironing out miscommunication. I'm going to call this a discussion rather than an argument because it sounds like people are calmly making reasonable points on both sides. I very much appreciate those defending me, and I can also appreciate the concerns over alternate interpretations. It is only because I thought and meant nothing negative by the comment that I posted it as a simple observation, but I wouldn't have if, from my perspective, I thought it would be mistaken.

As a painter and customizer I have nothing but great respect for Beto. He is easily in my league as an artist, and maybe more so because he is the total package. Much love and props to Beto and Lupita. I won't apologize for something I did not mean, but I am sorry to hear that they may have been offended by it, and I'm surprised to hear they were sensitive about the issue regarding being there at the Xpo. Had I had any idea of that, I most certainly would not have drawn any attention to it because now we have pages of attnetion on it. Considering the fact they live in Mexico, I admire Beto for speaking English so well. Beto has commented in my thread, so I know he reads it. I wouldn't dare post anything to insult him. Love you, Beto. Hope there are no hard feelings. I absolutely admire you in many ways. An artist of your caliber transcends barriers like language. In fact, I found it endearing.

Commtech and Q, I understand how what I said about Xpo would be offensive to those who put so much effort into making it a reality. To say it wasn't as big as it sounds could mean it wasn't as good as it sounds, but I just meant square footage. I was in no way disappointed in Xpo, in fact it exceeded my expectations, and Frank and Sons is the coolest collectibles place I've ever been to. 1/6 Xpo was great, it was very well promoted, and I hope the plans for a follow up in October come through. I will definitely be there. The best part of it for me was meeting fellow artists and fellow Freaks. The custom figure contest entries were incredibly impressive. I genuinely hope it was only the first of many, bigger and grander shows. I look forward to looking forward to it every year.

I like that mask. Where did you get it from?

Pt. 4 Jason mask. Filled in the cut and drilled the holes out. Works great for BETO'S BEAST OF A SCULPT BECAUSE IT FRIGGIN' ROCKS! CAN WE GET BACK TO CUSTOMIZING ALREADY!!!!

Nathan is a stand up guy, so back off him or I have to come over there and teach you all!

By the way, do you americans still use the term Race in your passport? I think that is pretty funny if you do since all humans are of the ____ sapiens race, make that input in the passport pretty reduntant :p

Well, Sideshow said I could post this if I didn't hear back from them in a month, so here it is; the unused, alternate head iI painted for the 1/6 G.I. Joe Dusty.

Looks great. A real shame it didn't make the cut. The goatee and awful factory camo really ruined Dusty as a whole. That head would have saved the figure!
