after hearing so many rumors about an "ultimate" box set of the entire saga...NOTHING was announced at CIV?

i can't believe it. it's the ******* 30th anniversary. and...NOTHING?

i mean, i'm sure we would've heard something by now. didn't they announce the OTSE dvds around this time? and then release it around NOV?

omg...i can't breathe.

*DIES*

Perhaps it'll just be a release of the current versions in a box set rather than separately which would make sense why there isn't a big announcement.

But once they release an HD version of it they better add some good extras.

When he releases cleaned up, HD versions of the originals, I'll be there. ;)

but that's the problem, the HD format war is still going on with no clear winner. if that were the case, we won't see the ultimate box set for like....oh god! it hurts to even think about it!

i hope you're right that GL won't let us down rw23.

This was in Digital Bits back in February:

Well... we've got some new info that may crash your Astro droid's OS. And no, we aren't out punking Padawans with this.

You know that mega-bombad 9-disc Ultimate Star Wars Saga box set that's been in the works for a few years now? The one that was expected to be released later this year to celebrate the 30th Anniversary? Yeah... maybe not so much anymore. We've been hearing from multiple sources now that the folks up at Lucasburg were surprised enough at the lackluster sales of last year's Star Wars Trilogy DVD re-run ("Now with Han shoots first!") that they're afraid they might have gone to the Sarlacc Pit one too many times, so to speak. There's talk apparently that the box set could get delayed a year or two to amp up demand for the films on disc again. Don't know how serious this all is, but that's the word that's blowing in the wind.

They're pretty good with their info, so I would be surprised if this is true. Maybe LF jumped the gun when they released the original OT last year.

My guess is that we are going to see Star Wars Saga in 3-D released in theaters before we see another DVD release.

That is where we will first see the new CG Episode I Yoda, I believe... as well as any new changes Lucas has under his sleeves. :monkey3 :monkey3 :monkey3

I read some where that he's waiting for the HD war to over. After that he'll choose a format for releasing the movies.

That would be cool to have just one bluray disc for the whole 6 movies.

They also re-released the 2004 edition as separate DVDs in 2005 (no changes except they didn't release the box set bonus DVD).

For an otherwise brilliant marketing department, I don't understand how they could have underestimated the effects of releasing the trilogy three times in as many years.

Especially since by doing so put them out of a key marketing event: the 30th anniversary.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does a Disney and puts him movies in the vault for a few years. Nothing spurs sales like the idea people might miss out on something.

Why make one disc when you can make six for six times as much?:D

Little Contact quote there...

Well actually the quote was along the lines of "Why build one when you can have two for twice the price?" ... and i just tried to make it relevant but I cant. Ohh well, this is my random post for the day. :chew

i'm there with you!!! i'm certain that the capacity of the HD discs will allow for both versions of the movies to be on each disc.

A Lucas insider from another board I frequent has said that alot of the box set resources have been reassigned to focus on Indy and the new SW series and that they expect to go back to the box set sometime after Indy IV is completed.

you know..as much as i would LOVE the ultimate set..i would prefer the ultimate BTS set. With as much archived footage of the making of the trilogy that they have out there...OPEN THE VAULT! Give me a six disc set of all the outtakes, how they did that, costume test, auditions, etc. I know there has to be hundreds of hours that has never been seen. He films as much of the makeing of the movies as he does the actual movies.

This would be a great appetizer to tide folks over while they make the BIG SET rather than releasing the trilogies over and over.

I didn't realize there were that many versions of Star Wars out on DVD. I wonder which version I have.... :lol And what happened to the 3D movies? I thought ANH was supposed to come out last month.
