Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I'm also not really interested in this prequel junk.

Good, I feel like I'm in the Resistance here and these new anthology films "have risen from the ashes of the prequel trilogy." WHY ARE WE GOING THERE AGAIN? Why??? They're gathering their forces, they're going to destroy everything again, JJ Abrams has vanished, where is he, where 1s h3????? :panic:

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I don't even care if they get Ingruber. I'm not "doing" any more SW prequels with young actors playing classic OT characters. Whoever they pick to be Han will just be another Hayden Christensen or Daniel Logan and I will NOT connect them to the OT and TFA. Ford is Han, period. The only way I'd even consider a younger actor as him would be if they pulled a Young Indy River Phoenix and had both actors in the same movie. Even then, I'm not so sure.

You hate Christensen.... so by putting Logan in there to I assume you hate him too? :lol He did nothing to harm Boba Fett's legacy. Maybe you mean Jango and the whole storyline of Boba being a clone. Either way, Boba is only really interesting to me from AOTC up to ANH. Then after ROTJ. Everything between 4-6 just isn't interesting to me.

I'm also not really interested in this prequel junk. My interest level is almost as low as it is for the WB Snyderverse stuff. So many interesting places they could go with the Star Wars "universe," but they only want to stare backwards.

I don't really know where you think they could go forwards with Star Wars besides Episode 8.

Of course everything is going to be back in the timeline.

These won't wreck anything. Your opinion of these are already tainted. You are viewing them through a bad eye. At least wait until the first trailer to bash them... or even an actor announcement :lol

It doesn't take a great deal of imagination to take some of the hundreds of settings, characters, and/or themes in Star Wars and to go somewhere different. But then, based on your avatar, you apparently like the Lucas prequels, so I'm not sure I want to try to debate Star Wars movies with you :lol

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Now can they go out and make an entertaining movie? Sure. But like a-dev and I were chatting about a while back, movies with different actors just never truly connect. I still can't really link BTTF to BTTF II or BB to TDK because of the damn girlfriend switcheroos. And the latter is the freaking Dark Knight! I just don't see it happening with this new Solo flick which is okay because I certainly don't need a "young Han" movie anyway. He's young enough in ANH.

It's annoying when it happens. Game of Thrones has had a few recasts at this point. It doesn't ruin the show but it's noticeable particularly when it's some fairly prominent characters.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I keep the prequel blu-rays on a shelf in my study and every day I just sit and stare at them for an hour like the Governor did with his walker heads to remind myself of "what's out there."

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I am not sure if you misunderstood me.... but I will clarify nonetheless.

What Boba does between episodes 4-6 just isn't interesting to me. Of course episodes 4-6 as a whole interest me :lol

But Boba gets Han... transports him to Jabba... then gets eaten by a gigantic ***hole.

They have themselves in a corner right now as far as future story telling goes. Unless you want a new character to have his own movie.... the best options are to focus on Vader, Kenobi, Fett, Yoda, Han....

Surprise you even own them after disowning them so many times. :lol

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I just keep wondering if maybe...in long stretches...Ingruber is possibly not a great actor? I love his impersonations and I've seen the clips as young HF - which, in a small dose, are kind of great but also kind of forced.

I must say, I agree. His performance in Age of Adeline might be good (I haven't seen that movie), but the impressions he posted, while uncanny, sure, always struck me as a little wooden.

Then again, this whole project is ****ing pointless and out of all the upcoming Star Wars movies, this is the one that I'm most likely to ignore.

Han's dead, now let's leave him be. He was great in 4-5 and ok in 6, very good in 7 again, the character's done. Put him to rest.

I don't own them anymore, and some here might recall the over-the-top way in which I vanquished that particular demon. :lol

I don't recall. Do tell. Lol.

I don't own the prequels either. They're at my dad's place. He likes them. He can have them. No need for me to buy them for my collection at home. If my son is curious, he can watch them with Grandpa. I don't want any part of it. :lol

I can't believe that I lived to witness the most amazing turnaround in the history of cinema. Here we were, September 2011, with the infamous blu-rays hitting store shelves with even MORE asinine revisions (rocks that temporarily appear in front of R2 on Tatooine, "No...NOOOOO!" in Jedi, etc.) and then...the unthinkable happened. The original theatrical trilogy stormed back in all of its glory through painstakingly meticulous fan restorations, Lucas gives up the entire franchise, and a NEW Star Wars film worthy of the original saga appears. We went from be forced to watch six ****y films to having four awesome ones. I'm just flabbergasted that that all actually happened. It's nothing less than surreal.

Yep. Everything changed on October 30, 2012.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Decades from now in an alternate timeline there is a war ravaged earth with even more butchered versions of the OT and some heroes are standing around going "We can prevent all this, we just need to go back to 2012 and convince George to SELL THE FRANCHISE." And it worked! They stopped Judgment Day and we're all in this new idyllic timeline. I feel like we're all walking around in this paradise glow, happy and clutching our copies of the original theatrical OT and TFA, Wolverine looks at us all and smiles because only he knows the truth. :bow :lol

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I watched a clip of Age of Adeline where the kid is helping Adeline with her car that had broken down, as well as the YouTube clip of him imitating Ford, and I just don’t see anything beyond mimicry. It really looked like he was just doing an imitation and it felt very flat and one-dimensional. I don’t want to discount him at this point because maybe that Adeline scene didn’t have much for him to work with, or the director didn’t know how to coach him, or whatever. But I see more acting chops from Transformers and Kingsman guys (not familiar with the third guy’s work) in those admittedly fluff movies than I did with Adeline guy.

And even though the guys in the running may not look or act like Ford in what we’ve seen them in, there’s still a good chance they’ll do a good job in the movie. It really does depend on the script and director. If the script gives him a couple of classic Han-isms, then I guarantee they’ll win over the crowd.

Maybe a lot of people won’t agree with this, but just look at Chris Pine doing Kirk. There are a couple of moments that he does the little swagger of Shatner, or shows some of the Kirk cockiness that really sells him as “Kirk”. But he doesn’t just do an imitation of Shatner and all his weird dramatic pauses. It’s all about the character that the script, director and actor build.

That would have been awesome if he did. :lol
