the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

Unfortunately ; beauty and emotional power is in the eye of the beholder....and judging by the pure volume of hentai out there.....someone finds it powerful or beautiful.....

Naw that’s just ****ography dude lol. It’s not art. Art as a term has come to mean a lot of things nowadays, and it encompasses a lot, for example even contemporary art is not really art. Staying within the overall convo, it’s like the term feminism which is used for both women who want equality and also for women who want to prove men inferior.

And no one watches **** or hentai for its beauty or emotional power as per the explanation you used... it’s to fulfill a base impulse, nothing more.

If you get back to the core of what art is, it cannot be didactic, there cannot be propaganda, all it is a self expression through an instrument, whether that’s a musical instrument or a paint brush or clay or the ‘human instrument’ for acting, singing etc.

If there’s any message, it’s just due to the times in which it was created, however it is not *forced* upon you. Take even a flick like apocalypse now which has a clear message and is a product of its times... and it’s not offensive. It’s just some guys expression of the subject. Citizen Kane has a clear meaning but again, as an expression of the creator. Same with Star Wars.

However new Star Wars is not the same. If anyone needs proof of this, all you have to do is go back to J.J.’s first talk on the topic in which he said he asked around the room, ‘what is the feeling we want to evoke?’ They based it all on what they wanted to evoke from the audience, and it was no longer an unique expression. Rians train of thought was clearly ‘how can I surprise them?’ In Lucas case he let it grow naturally, whether the path he went down was something one liked or not.

Just because art is subjective doesn’t mean it’s propaganda - the two words don’t mean the same the thing. Propoganda is trying to make you think a certain way, whereas art is just self expression, unless you’re a contemporary artist who’s doing it all for the message. In that case, there’s no way your work will stand the test of time anyway. Just as TLJ won’t, many years down the road the consensus will only become more clear - just like the prequels will become more liked in time even with their flaws (and you can already see this happening)

Philosophy isn’t supposed to be followed as a religion as you seem to think it is, it’s there to question our own perception of what society or even ourselves are “designed” to be, or even not to be. Who made that chair? Why did they make it? Why did they choose wood? Is it really a chair or is it my mind perceiving that as a familiar object i’ve been programmed to think?


Anyhoo thanks for proving my point. No need to boast about how intelligent you are compared to others when your mental condition is wearing slowly by misunderstanding such fundamental properties of life, which in the long run is more important. Maybe you should start to form your own opinions instead of regurgitating what you learned in Ethics 101 for half a semester. That’s kind of the point of learning such a way of thinking anyways.

Listen not all of us have our balls retract into our bodies any time we see a woman reprimanding a man. You guys would have died in the 70's with Leia mocking and chastising Han during the entire Death Star escape that *she* had to take control of.

He deserved it though. Lucas was trying to showcase the problem of Han’s toxic masculinity. By ROTJ, Leia carried Han’s testicles in her utility belt. I believe she gave Wicket a couple bites of them when she met him on Endor.

Ah, Post Modernism. There it is. You honestly don't believe that you require falsifiable evidence to make claims about the world. Do you have any semblance of an epistemology, regarding what constitutes truth and falsehood? Y'know, seeing as logic and reason are "like a religion"? silence of the lambs, perfect movie in every way. what a perfect film.... every scene is just perfect

we have Clarice Starling, an innocent young smart detective surrounded by a holes and creeps, almost no one respects her as their equal, everyone looks down on her, everyone undermines her,
shes our hero,
the men either see her are less than them or they wanted *** from her or wanted to kill her... almost ever male is a creep...

yet, again just like kill bill,the movie is excellent, the movie doesnt preach, the movie doesnt talk down to their audience, the movie is just good at telling a great story.

kill bill and silence of the lambs could have easily have had an idiotic character like rose or holdo to pander to feminists but they didnt, cuz thats stupid BS

most hentai is either comedic in plot or has horror elements. unlike real ****, hentai does have a real plotline and even character development sometimes.

Hey man, it’s cool if it has comedic plot elements, so did a show like Friends. Is that art? We all know the answer. I’ll walk back my statement about it being about base impulses because it’s possible hentai has evolved past where it was last I knew of it, perhaps it can be more like a normal show now. But even game of thrones is not art so that still stands, whether the show is great or not.

Haha it’s saying exactly what I am in different words. What I say is ‘not art’ the vid is saying ‘lacks all standards’ and is ‘bad art.’ It’s also agreeing with me on modern art being ‘poop’ (literally using that picture) used to make a statement.

Fine, if you want to say friends or hentai is terrible art then go for it, it’s still the same as what I meant. I’ll be sure to call it ‘terrible art’ in the future as opposed to not art. Btw I also do like transformers and have quite a large collection (tho I don’t collect them anymore) but I would never consider them art, even if the originals were hand drawn.

Honestly by not putting them in the category of art it was allowing the hentai or transformers to succeed on their own merits (fun) but by putting them in that category they just become terrible compared to other art.
