Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

You'll like it more after the third. And fourth.
Screenings, yes.
The more you spend on a movie the more you shall like it in order not to look like a masochistic money wasting fool.

Or.....maybe .....you just enjoy it?

Cause if you theory is true, then OT is king.

Chris Pine does not look like Shatner but he nailed the character and felt like Kirk... Hope this guy can do the same.

I had this same thought when I saw the full trailer. I was trying to remember if those first trailers of Pine showed us that Kirk spark. Granted it was a reboot and alternate history but there was a Kirk essence. Hoping for a similar experience with this dude playing a young Han to tell stories we’ve not necessarily seen on screen before. Coming of age Han. Maybe this is the chick that teaches him to HOW to be a scoundrel.

The nice thing about ANH was that up until now you could assume that Han's rescue of Luke in the Death Star trench was his first unselfish act (other than rescuing Chewbacca)... but now it will be established that Han is a sucker for unselfish actions after all... so the action taken at the end of ANH will now seem anticlimactic to his character. In fact, it will be expected.

But this is what happens when you expand stories.

Boy, this one trailer has already stirred alot of blacklash all over the internet..forums, YouTube reactions, social media, etc i’ve been reading so far.

It’s just one trailer too. Shame that this is happening to the SW franchise :lecture

New SW trailers deserve all the backlash they can possibly receive.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Just some guy acting his whole life who studied at NYU, worked with Coppola, Woody Allen, and the Coen Brothers.

Ok, so maybe not a nobody... Maybe he's just got a really, really good agent?

He's a little too "soft"... A little too "metro"... A little too "so hot right now"...

I've seen his work... He fits that in art-house sensibility well, just like Adam Driver who is a far superior actor with limitless charisma...

And although I can't say I was blown away by what I've seen, I would love to be pleasantly surprised... And I'd love it even more to be blown away!!

Can't have been an easy shoot, so you gotta feel for the guy, but why THIS film??? THIS character???

:dunno

I want to remember Han as a selfish prick, shooting first of course. His later actions resembles much more then and character has interesting development. His movie can ruin that.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Seems like they are fudged either way.

Either he portrays Han just how he is in the OT and then it's nothing but scrutiny and criticism for how "off" it is or they present him totally different and have a character arc that brings him around to the OT Han, but their track record with character arcs are pretty weak so far.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

If they won't show how Han was kicked from Imperial fleet for protecting Chewie... Oh, who am I kidding? They won't.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

His voice pitch is throwing the whole thing off for me. I Liked the Super Bowl spot, but Han speaking in the trailer reminds me more of whiney Luke. If he were speaking deeper it would have worked more for me. Also overall it has more of a modern Star Trek feel as is.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Made it to 3:11...
He's full of ****.
Of course people joined the Empire's forces, didn't even Luke want to enter the Imperial Academy?

Yeah, the view I had of the Empire in ANH was that it was like Nazi Germany - a large minority were not onboard with it but kinda shut up and dealt with it out of fear or pragmatism (even if there was talk of a small rebellion growing in far-off areas,) but many people just considered them as the government and so signed up for its armed forces, whether out of patriotism or just as a normal career (the Empire being the only game in town to some degree too.)

So it makes sense that a young man with ambition like Han might sign up like Luke was mulling. It wasn't like this evil thing that swept in and everybody hated it, just the next manifestation of the galactic government, albeit a non-democratic, autocratic and at times pretty brutal one.

It's a bit like Christian Slater as Han Solo.

Let’s face it..Harrison has always had the unique deep voice his whole career. I think it adds to his characters, originality in his performances.

Nowadays most male actors lack this. The IT guys sound more like college freshman or men going through puberty. I think it’s almost impossible to find a new actor to match Ford’s tone which is why Ford’s Han Solo will always be an iconic.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Finally watched the trailer for this.

Christ, Lucasfilm is in bad shape. This looks awful. Not only are Ehrenreich and Glover terrible cosplays of Ford and Williams, the movie doesn't even feel like a SW movie.

I gave the theatrical [Gilroy] cut of RO a 7/10. This trailer makes that movie look like a ****ing masterpiece. While I didn't give a damn about Erso's journey nor her team's, at least they inhabited what felt 100% like the world of SW. This trailer fails at the aforementioned miserably. If you took Chewie out along with the Star Destroyer and TIE Fighters the film could easily pass for something that doesn't reside in the SW universe at all.

Terrible cinematography, music, action and Ehrenreich's voice is a slap in the face to anyone who loves the character of Han Solo.

This trailer is just insulting. It's both depressing and comical how low Lucasfilm has sank since the stellar intro to SW they had with TFA.
