Yeah, you'd think pulling a smuggled blaster (which he managed to do - they apparently don't have weapons scanners and rely on the "honor system" on Vos' ship) would have been easier if just killing him was the point.
They all assumed there'd be a switch because that's what Han had explained to Beckett (the plan you see Han going over but that you don't hear). So there was no switch but Beckett thought there was and so Vision was undermanned on his ship, especially when Qira turns, as all the guards were attacking Maya Rudolph on the ground thinking a switch HAD been done. It was not very interesting or clear why NOT switching it was a good idea -- I guess Han figured they'd have Vision outnumbered regardless?
