Rogue One, which also have decent aspects to them despite being mostly crap.

Khev always finds a way to rationalize/justify what Disney is trying to do, even when it takes some Jedi-level mental gymnastics. No easy task. Hats off to you! :D

It does sometimes almost feel paid.:lol

While I love some of it, agree with parts of it, and enjoy reading almost all of it, it's a level of acceptance of the interweaving of the classic and the accept-this-as-classic (and teeth-gritted insistence to do so) that you only usually find in LFL or Disney publications or online feeds.

I feel proud of devil's advocate moments like this:

Do you even like Star Wars Talibane? :lol

But this is what I love so much about Khev.:duff

TLJ, RO, Solo - all lined up for the warmest, longest, most heartfelt SW hug he can muster.:clap

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Never thought I'd see the day when a Star Wars movie would barely make $100 million opening on a four day weekend

Lolz

Well none of the OT movies did... ;)

Disney should’ve never moved it from December huge mistake.

It would’ve given them additional time to move away from the drama, from IW, from DP2, and make additional SW movie announcements to get fans excited.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

My buddy and I came away from the movie thinking Lando was maybe having sex with L3. The saving her scene was so over dramatic in how it was shot. Maybe that’s where the pansexual thing came from, whatever that even means. I think they took a character like K2 and tried to outdo him, but immediately jumped the shark with L3 from her opening lines.

That moment was so dumb for so many reasons it's hard to articulate them all. I mean we've seen Chewy holding 3PO's "dead" head in ESB and by the end of the movie he's shiny and new like nothing happened (and people including Leia kind of shrugged when they saw him all blown apart and "dead," and nobody seemed to care when he shows up all together again either.)

I'm sure if Lando did that restoration with L3, she'd need months of therapy for the trauma.:lol

Saw it in 2D and thought my screen was pretty dark too. Hopefully just our particular screens.

Several people in our group mentioned the movie overall was too dark visually - like they were so relieved when windy-beach planet showed up because it was bright daylight.

But I recall seeing Avatar in 3D and it was noticeably dark with the glasses on versus with them off.

Yeah, they've got to be kicking themselves for that.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Oh I think JAWS will like it... just not the last act. But the first two acts are so much fun it doesn't matter much.

I admit that the shootout in Drydon's study is pretty low key compared to what came before and I definitely had a feeling of "that's it?" when that scene was over on my the first showing. But I do like the idea of Han being in a "diving behind couches" no holds barred shootout I just think they could have made it a little grander. Maybe not full "True Romance" or "Face/Off" but at least have like another 5-10 guards come pouring in once the lasers started flying so that Han could blow away a few more bad guys.

I was a bit taken aback that for his massive yacht, all of his super valuable merchandise, an entire galaxy full of enemies, etc., that apparently Drydon had no more than 14 or so guards total (two in his room and then maybe a dozen or so that went to get the croaxium.) As it stands I still enjoy the finale but yeah, it definitely could have been a bit "more."

Another youtube video, but I think this one is a fairly well balanced perspective on what's happening from a non-political perspective.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Also having just watched ESB again after seeing Solo yesterday man Lando's betrayal plays much more harshly now. You really empathize with how furious Han is that Lando turned him over to Vader to be imprisoned and tortured when thinking about the two of them fighting side by side in Kessel and spilling blood together.

im not even joking or memeing right now but grace did release the best analysis review on this weekend box office I KNOW, I know everyone here thinks she looks like a bloated zombie but her analysis is spot on

she makes really really good points on the future of the franchise and Kennedys possible replacement

i wish more people heard what she said. this is a serious video on the suture of Kennedy and star wars

grace comes from a neutral point as well

Yeah, they've got to be kicking themselves for that.

Going back to the movie i’ve been thinking about that awesome giant space monster and black hole and the metaphors they represent.

Pretty interesting the dynamics.

First and foremost for better or worse it was a call back to the giant sea monster chasing Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Jar Jar in TPM.

But I liked how that monster could represent the growing threat from the empire to the galaxy with all of its far reaching tentacles especially with the star destroyer literally in the same vicinity.

It also served as a precursor to Han capturing and killing the tentacle Rathtar with the Falcon in TFA.

If the giant monster represented the empire then the black hole reminded me of the energy shaft that swallowed the emperor taking the empire with him.

That shot of the Falcon in the foreground trying to escape the gravity well as that monster was getting slowly sucked in behind it has got to be one of the coolest Falcon visuals in the entire Saga.

And you're right about the metaphors, now that you mention them it really was a straight "pirate" motif wasn't it with the Falcon being Han's pirate ship, the black hole being a whirlpool and the creature some giant sea monster. Really cool how they made space a treacherous place to navigate like the ocean for old time seafarers.

Perfection!

That was literally space Kraken!

True perfection that was indeed a pirate adventure all the way.
