Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

When you have multiple kids under 5 years old (that are monsters), I take the latter version every time!

:exactly: :lecture :exactly:

Spoken only as a parent could know.

But I don’t think that’s why the movie bombed lol

I have jye fatigue :lol:lol

You sir madam are for lack of a better term....low energy fake crows! lol

Did you watch the RLM video holy crap Mike and Rich are ganging up on poor Jay when he complains about the movie!

But no Marvel fatigue or reality show fatigue.
Star Whores - 41 years old multimedia franchise.
Reality TV --- 26 years old programing format.
Marvel CU --- 10 years old film franchise.

God it is so refreshing to read an opinion not driven by fear and paranoia but instead by logical reasoning.

Hold on be right back I need to go lower the shades the NSA is looking at me thru my window.

Lol, yeah I've never seen a problem with acknowledging the pros and cons of both Kennedy and Lucas. No need to pretend that one is perfect and the other is evil incarnate.

Peeps forget how savage Khev can be lol

:lol But I'm "Special Edition Savage" not "Original Theatrical Release Savage." I let him get a shot off and miss at point blank range before firing back. ;)

Star Wars fatigue.

Maybe. It definitely isn't a result of the few people enraged by TLJ boycotting it. Yeah people hated TLJ so much they saw it 6 times until it made over $620 million *domestic* but then vowed to boycott the next film that they *didn't* hate, lol.

For whatever reason this is just another Fury Road or BR 2049. A good movie that just isn't finding an audience. I think only the diehards and their significant others/families are going to see this one and it's being ignored by the casuals. I do believe that a few people *are* boycotting this one, but definitely not enough to make the movie bomb like it is.

Dont all star wars share the same audience?

Fine. People are just tired of SW. I'm not doing this. It's so stupid.

They did but there was never a way that casual audiences were going to keep up with the pace that LFL is cranking these out. I don't even know how the MCU is still successful, its really quite mind boggling. Maybe it's because the MCU has just enough variety with it's different main characters and teams for each movie or maybe it's because the younger generation doesn't feel like the MCU is "their dad's franchise" and are more easily able to embrace it as their own, who knows.

Either way Solo deserves better but like I said before if cinematic perfection like BR 2049 can bomb then nothing is guaranteed to break even (well except the MCU, lol.)

Star Wars fatigue.

Definite truth to this.

I think also we are beginning to see the tide turn in Nerd or Geek culture. Its had its day and the tide is turning...

We will be back to this in no time.

Spot on....actually Solo had a better opening week than any film since 2014....

Memorial Day is a bad weekend to open now.

Summer blockbusters are much better off opening June.

Hence why Disneys other big opener , Incredibles 2 opens in JUNE.

They had much more staked on that then Solo....I think they were fine with the numbers so far.
And I think we will get a sequel.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

LFL/Disney is still figuring out this new freedom with the franchise since George let the dogs out. Better to learn it now at #1 on one of the biggest weekends of the year.

Cool boycott.

Hopefully LFL takes this lesson and decides that fewer SW films is the way to go instead of continuing at their current pace but with smaller budgets (ie no more awesome location shoots or practical effects.) I'd hate for these to start looking like GotG or AOTC/ROTS.

Yeah it'd be a bummer but also the thing you read/hear about all the time among filmmakers is how limitation feeds creativity. This could be exactly what the franchise needs. More focus in the writing/planning, less reliance on throwing money at repair.

just a thought. :dunno

True. And movies like Obi-Wan could still be done on a relatively modest budget if they go all "Logan" and just have him wandering the desert dealing with small localized threats.

I mean, that's music to my ears. It took Hugh Jackman 3 tries and what, a decade? to get the tone he wanted on a Wolverine movie. Obviously I don't expect or want to see Obi Wan shredding faces in his movie but a stripped down approach to a Tatooine-based movie about a washed up Jedi? M'kay!

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

If you think about it, what's the actual draw of Solo if you're just a casual SW fan? No stars with draw power, a side story you don't need to see, the universe looks bleak and dark in the trailers... for causal fans it just looks like yet another side SW story that will be on demand in 3 months. It's kind of like Ant Man and Wasp. Who cares?

I also hate that any time Disney has an OK movie on their hands they immediately trumpet a "new trilogy". That gets people tired of the whole thing - what? another incomplete saga I have to wait 3 years to see finished.

Rian trilogy
Favreau trilogy
Solo trilogy

:slap

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

It was a ballsy move to cast a relative nobody in the lead. And it paid off for those of us that saw it but probably was a factor.

But I'll thank baby Jesus until the day I die that they didn't cast Miles Teller, if anyone remembers who he is.

Holy crap you're right he was totally on the short list of potential Hans. We dodged a Greedo sized blaster shot with that one!
