Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Hopefully if they don't move forward on a SOLO series they continue to use the cast in subsequent anthology movies.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

If you think about it, what's the actual draw of Solo if you're just a casual SW fan? No stars with draw power, a side story you don't need to see, the universe looks bleak and dark in the trailers... for causal fans it just looks like yet another side SW story that will be on demand in 3 months. It's kind of like Ant Man and Wasp. Who cares?

I also hate that any time Disney has an OK movie on their hands they immediately trumpet a "new trilogy". That gets people tired of the whole thing - what? another incomplete saga I have to wait 3 years to see finished.

Rian trilogy
Favreau trilogy
Solo trilogy

:slap
Yeah, but they started the main new trilogy with no plan in mind. They just told an open ended story.

According to some articles and most recently a quote from Simon Pegg, Abrams lined up a 3 picture outline. But there was also a caveat that individual directors should be given license. What that adds up to I don't know but I remember reading a quote from JJ saying that since he'd read the TLJ script he wished he was directing it. At the time that sounded like a compliment. In retrospect, not so much. :lol

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I’d still like to see the Lord and Miller stuff.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I heard their cut has lots of "boings" and one-line zingers. Batman shows up at one point, looking out of a train window.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Lol, yeah I've never seen a problem with acknowledging the pros and cons of both Kennedy and Lucas. No need to pretend that one is perfect and the other is evil incarnate.

:lol But I'm "Special Edition Savage" not "Original Theatrical Release Savage." I let him get a shot off and miss at point blank range before firing back. ;)

Maybe. It definitely isn't a result of the few people enraged by TLJ boycotting it. Yeah people hated TLJ so much they saw it 6 times until it made over $620 million *domestic* but then vowed to boycott the next film that they *didn't* hate, lol.

For whatever reason this is just another Fury Road or BR 2049. A good movie that just isn't finding an audience. I think only the diehards and their significant others/families are going to see this one and it's being ignored by the casuals. I do believe that a few people *are* boycotting this one, but definitely not enough to make the movie bomb like it is.

Spectacular lol

Jesus that first quip just wow.

JAWS is going to read this post and be like “Crap I gotta go see it now” lol

= TLJ

Kennecus needs to be firing more people. The movies come out great when she fires people.

That is comedy gold right there. :lol

I think we already got the Lord and Miller JL cut that’s enough lol

Holy crap Wor-Gar was on point before I posted my lame ass joke lol

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

It was a ballsy move to cast a relative nobody in the lead.

Also kudos to LFL for originally casting a black man to play *gasp!* Drydon who was a villain. Now maybe his race wouldn't have been obvious with whatever "half mountain lion" look they were giving him but at least they didn't go for the standard politically correct route. Yes the finished film has yet another white villain with Bettany but it probably would have been more weird if they had kept Drydon black as if it was a requirement for his character.

I was also glad to finally see some non-white/brunette females in a Star Wars movie with Val and Enfys.

It certainly hasn't hurt! :lol

Apparently in the Lord and Miller cut when Han is trying to escape the giant space kracken he accidentally hits a button causing a little Lando hologram to appear on the dash with disco lights as he sings "It's my birthday!" in a high pitched voice like Goldblum in Ragnarok, lol.

That actually sounds genuine. With one of his many capes.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Either way Solo deserves better but like I said before if cinematic perfection like BR 2049 can bomb then nothing is guaranteed to break even (well except the MCU, lol.)

It doesn't. It really doesn't and it's nothing short of a miracle that it's performing as poorly as it is for a Star Wars film. If it actually met box office expectations or exceeded them it would yet again be teaching the Disney execs that they can continue to churn out mediocre garbage and still make big bucks. Hopefully the one-two punch of The Last Jedi followed quickly by Solo convinces Disney/KK to seriously reconsider what they're doing with this franchise.

I looked up “mediocre garbage” and this popped up:

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

:lol :lol

I’m still in shock that I accept Solo being played by another actor. :thud:

Honestly it really helped that you guys brought up Fury Road like two days before Solo hit theaters. That reminded me that even if I don't accept Solo as "canon" that it can still be an entertaining movie in its own right. Turns out it was entertaining *and* I have no problem accepting it as canon which is just mind-blowing, lol.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

What's funny is that watching SW and Empire right after "Solo" it kind of made Luke feel like the new "Rey" lol. I wanted more Han but then there's this new kid who can suddenly hold his own in a gunfight and space battle with no military training (in infantry or aerial combat maneuvers) kicking ass while Han is just kind of there to help him out. ;)

It was also cool to see the contrast in upbringings between Han and Luke at similar ages and how Han could walk into a hive of scum and villainy in his early 20's and carry himself like he owned the place compared to timid Luke who almost got killed when trying to order a drink, lol.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Is it just me or did they severely undermine what it means to “complete the Kessel Run in 12 Parsecs?” That was what bothered me most. It was, like, a twenty minute sequence, and I was like “Jesus Christ. That doesn’t seem all that impressive, anymore.”:lol

Shhh. You're not supposed to say those things.
