Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Amazing how many people here are happy with Solo. I'm one of them.
It's a mediocre movie - but it has some great elements and it felt SW correct.

I *love* Solo. Easily a 9/10 with regard to enjoyment. But quality wise yeah maybe a 7 or 8. It's just so damn fun and exciting despite any shortcomings.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Yep imagine if George never made ROTJ and gave us Solo in the 80's instead. It'd be a celebrated classic. Then if Kennedy still took over the franchise and gave us ROTJ as a continuation of SW/ESB people would be outraged at how lame she allowed Han, Fett, and Vader to become. Some people just won't ever take off their nostalgia blinders no matter how superior certain aspects of the Disney films are compared to what Lucas gave us. SW/ESB will always be untouchable but Disney has been doing a bang up effort at getting close, especially with the spin-off flicks.

TPM, AOTC, ROTS, and half of ROTJ are an absolute joke compared to ST/RO/Solo.

if this android makes people cringe today
imagine the reaction it would get in the 80s....
more hatred than jar jar ...

L3 didn’t bother me. She was kinda crazy. I’m ok with that.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Reality is we got Ewoks, Holiday Special, Crappy Han, Lame Fett, Taxation of Trade Routes, Gungans, Little Annie and Whine-akin when SW was controlled only by men.

By the way Chewblacca we need to come up with a nick name for you i’m not going to say your full name all the time you know.
!

Yeah, but they still made for some great memories and without all of that stuff we never would have gotten the killing of Han, Betty Sue Rey, the pointless casino scenes, a nonsensical space pursuit, a non Jedi Luke and a contradicting storyline. My point was that good or bad Lucas would never treat the fans the way they are being treated now. Hate the prequels all you want Lucas had a plan for all of them and never just made it all up as he went along.

The opening shots of Han speeding through the city with the Powell arrangement of the new Solo theme was outstanding.
Possibly up there with my favourite ever SW moments.

if anything this movies vindicate lucas and clear him out of any wrong doing. these movies and kenedy's treatment of the fan showed everyone what a gentle person lucas was when it came to the reaction of the sequels.

the fact that some people are starting to be fond of the prequels now is testament of how hateful and toxic kennedy and star wars has become.

What are you talking about? “Making it up as he went along” was Lucas’ M.O.! Lol

See that’s where you and I would just have to agree to disagree because I think Lucas has done worse to me the fan then Kennedy has done.

Absolutely! And the flickering "Solo" title card looked amazing.

And was it just me or did it actually look like they slightly CG'd Alden's face to look more like Ford in the very first shot that he was sitting in the speeder with the shadows passing his face or was that my own imagination?

I’m happy you brought up his features they did an incredible job lighting him to cheat him closer to Ford. Totally noticed what you are describing as well.

The prequels were the story of Vader. These last two I couldn’t even call Rey’s story because I see no progression of character at all. She learns the Force on her own! Let me stop before I can’t stop.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Yeah, the only thing that bothered me with L3 was the actual volume level/mix of her voice.
It was weirdly loud in every scene.
How else would people hear her magnificent message? :monkey3

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Nothing Kennedy has done compares to the contempt that Lucas has had for those begging for the restoration and preservation of the original theatrical OT. After the SE's, PT, and his plans to make Han a wookiee raised orphan on Kashyyyk make me glad, glad, glad that he'll forever be denied final say on the Saga's narrative going forward.

His contributions to pop culture and cinema are some of the greatest of any human being but once the 90's rolled around he became a pale shadow of his former self. Thank God he at least had the wherewithal to hand the keys to someone else.

He was the Emperor with new clothes , if you are familiar with that tale, its all you need to know. If not, lets just say the people who worked with him were yes men, and no one should surround them selves with yes men.

On that note.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I have two questions.

Now that the weekend is over, and Solo didn't reach the box office sales Disney was hoping for, Disney is faced with the question of "why didn't it do better - why didn't more people go to see it".

Trying my best to be unbias, I think it was a combination of factors -

Infinity War and Deadpool both being out at the same time (and IW being more of a "Main event" type of movie)
Episode 8 having come out only a few months ago
Maybe people have gotten used to seeing a Star Wars movie around Christmas (instead May like they used to do back in the day)
All the controversy around the film with directors being replaced, etc.

I don't personally think there is any truth to a boycott, but maybe I'm wrong.

So now my questions: What do you think? And if you were Disney, what would you do from this point forward to try to revitalize the franchise?

Definitely think the combo of Infinity War and Episode 8 proximity is what did it.

Why do you think Kennedy keeps firing people? Same situation. Rian Johnson played to her pro feminism in Star Wars and she even said so.

Capitalism has always offered a very simple solution to your question.

Change of leadership when profits go south, done.

Sometimes with lots of fuss and drama though.

God it is so refreshing to read an opinion not driven by fear and paranoia but instead by logical reasoning.

Hold on be right back I need to go lower the shades the NSA is looking at me thru my window.
