Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Flash ahead several years to fans bemoaning the (to be) current Star Wars and waxing nostalgic for the Kennedy years.

You did it with Lucas.

My worst fear is that the studio, desperate for repeatable box office success, will jettison story and turn future SW movies into something resembling Transformers.

(Some) SW fans can be vicious...

Jake Lloyd scarred for life.
George Lucas quits star wars.
Daisy Ridley deletes her Instagram.
Kelly Marie Tran leaves Instagram over death threats.

And now, Kennedy.

Admittedly, i'm glad Lucas stopped directing SW movies, though.

Pando and his life mate Nien Nunb became serial killers and then went out like the Devils Rejects.

What, death threats isn’t reasonable over a SW movie lol

The ball is in Disney’s court now.

If they keep KK my jaw will hit the ground.

If they keep her after leaving 1 billion on the table with TLJ and LOSING money with Solo that will be proof that even the shareholders have approved an all out ideological war against the right wing SW fan base and SW is the battleground.

That is literally Horn/Iger saying WE DON’T WANT YOUR MONEY, WE DON’T NEED YOUR MONEY, WE DON’T CARE IF YOU NEVER GO SEE A SW MOVIE EVER AGAIN, WE DON’T WANT YOU TO BE PART OF THE SW FAMILY, BEAT IT!

BUT....

That’s so NOT happening she will be resigning very soon.

I stopped right there good enough for me lol

Not bad a single anarchist shut down Solo’s box office by not buying a 700 million dollar ticket.

I go to SW to escape real world politics and I especially don't want to see it forced and in a way that's shallow and insulting to both genders. The quality of the characters a nd the story should take priority. Political messages or themes are fine as long as it serves the story. Plenty of examples, including the OT. The Dark Knight, X-Men, T2, Logan, and so on. They all had political messages and/or themes.

I find the ST lack of a proper 32 year gap explanation and TFA’s 3rd act Starkiller base assault and TLJ casino scene/slave kids/FO handling of the slow chase to be more offensive to me than any forced agenda.

Because of those weak elements I mentioned plus her inability to hold a stable working environment with directors I feel KK should give someone else a try.

There's a long list of glaring problems. Plot holes, plot armor, and plot conveniences galore. Contradicting dialogue and emotional moments and visuals at the expense of things making sense.

It's Star Wars. Let's not worry about it. Let's move on.

2 words...

Re.....boot

I think a lot of this has to do with Disney trying to make this the next MCU. I don't think they can run Lucas Films like Marvel and expect to churn out several films a year without people growing tired of it.

Some thoughts:

  • MCU films each contribute towards a single event towards the end. Even something as mediocre as Doctor Strange brought something new to the MCU (magic) and ultimately contributed towards the story of the main event (IW).
  • The SW stories outside the main trilogy (the episodes) are prequels, meaning we basically know where they are headed anyway.
  • Solo was always going to generate less interest I think. #1, it's a younger version of a guy we've seen young before (OT) and we know dies at the hands of his son. #2, this is a character Harrison Ford made his, and we just killed him off a few years ago. I don't think there is much interest in his story right now.
  • The sequence of SW movies vs its timeline is all over the place (movies are not chronological) because of all these prequels. The average movie goer cannot keep up with this. Most of my friends do not know where RO fits into the SW timeline for example. If they want to make more SW movies, I say they should start looking into making movies that move the timeline forward, rather than basking in the nostalgia of the past films.
  • The current SW films rely too much on nostalgia. Nostalgia can only bring you so far with the casual (non-hardcore fan) audience. It's done. Let the past die and move the story forward (for better or for worse).

I really think they'll have to rethink the movies they plan showing forward. For example, a Boba Fett film might really get the fandom excited, but the casual movie goer does not know who he is, and won't care who he is because he adds nothing to the current story (Fett is dead and there is no big bad at the end of all this).

I'd say, finish the current trilogy, pause for a few years then use that to launch a new phase for SW (in the same way the MCU divided its stories into phases).

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Following decades of producing massive hits from Steven Spielberg like the Indiana Jones franchise, E.T., Jurassic Park, as well as Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future, Kennedy joined Lucasfilm at the perfect time and was named co-chair with George Lucas. Once Disney officially bought Lucas' studio, Kennedy was put completely in charge and immediately began working on a way to bring Star Wars back to prominence.

this is what I really hate......
What exactly DID she Do in those movies? what was her job? how did she influence does projects????? What does a producer like her even do????

I hate whenever this gets brought up (Jye has brought it up before too) I hate it because theres no real concrete answer. did she help Lucas come up with ideas? did she help with how the movies were gonna look? or did she just help the financing? was she on set for these movies? or was she in some office taking care of the paper work and the budgets and the contracts with the actors and the studios and stuff?

lines like these are so deceiving and so fake..... i truly hate it. for all we know all she did was take notes when Lucas was brainstorming or something.... why is she placed next to those movies like she helped create them......

I Wish someone would tell me exactly what she did...

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

She gave birth to Rey. The character that can do anything without any effort at all. You know, someone we all can relate to.

No journey to follow.

Just wet force dreams with her emo boyfriend.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Blah blah blah

Bottom line.

She was the executive in charge when 4.4 billion was earned.

I didn’t say profit did I.

I said earned.

Every movie has a seperation between earned and profit not only Disney is subjected to that.

Bottom line LIKE IT OR NOT in 3 years 4.4 bilion was earned with ONLY 3 movies!

I’m just talking box office receipts which when compared to the rest of hollywood Disney keeps the most % due to strong arm tactics.

But yes she’s still resigning.

You don’t get to keep your job when a SW movie LOSES MONEY!

Don’t worry rebels you have won this battle.

I’m not certain about the war but this battle is yours.

Lucifer out.

Hey man, it's just facts (though yeah, we are in the era of facts = blah blah blah).:dunno

parasite, sucks the blood or in this case "fame" out of the host.

i found something

After studying telecommunications and film in the mid-1970s at San Diego State University, she snagged a job as the lone female camera operator at a local television station. One day a few years into her TV production career, she went to see a new sci-fi film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which was written and directed by Spielberg. The film inspired her so much, she says, she dropped everything and headed north to Los Angeles to break into Hollywood movie-making. She called up her former college roommate, an actress who was married to director Robert Zemeckis—and the friend got Kennedy her first interview, with filmmaker John Milius, who was developing Spielberg’s next movie, 1941.

Kennedy landed a not-so-glamorous position: as Milius’s secretary. One of her first tasks was cataloguing his gun collection (the director and Apocalypse Now writer was also a longtime board member of the National Rifle Association). Apparently she had a knack for instilling order—and that caught Spielberg’s eye. “I noticed that John had a very organized office,” Spielberg recalls during a recent phone interview. “I was watching how Kathy handled all of his incoming requests, and I said, ‘Since I’m directing this movie, shouldn’t I have a top-notch secretary?’ ” Spielberg pulled rank and asked Kennedy to work for him.

She didn’t last long as the legendary director’s note taker—mainly because she wasn’t taking any notes. “She was supposed to take notes at meetings but would spend most of the time talking,” says Spielberg. “I was wondering if this was the protocol for secretaries in Hollywood.

:cuckoo:

Spielberg has another explanation as to why the partnership has worked: Kennedy’s sense of humor. “In a pressure-cooker-like environment—script development or production—it’s a blessing when someone in the middle of a meltdown can find something to make you laugh,”
