The part of your post that I put in bold encapsulates the prequels pretty well for me if you replace "Boba Fett" with "the original trilogy." By needlessly making so many PT elements retroactively connect to the OT, the prequels lost some artistic integrity in the process.

Agreed 100%. By doing that George just made the entire galaxy feel so damn inbred and small.

Man, I can’t stop thinking about this now.

Jango hires Zam, whom he supplies with the worms, but all she does is put them in a droid and wait on a building, observing. While he observes from another building?

:lol

:lol

"Jango has particular tastes, he likes to watch."

Two words: The Force. As Qui-Gon says, "Nothing happens by accident." The droids are (sorry, were) central to the saga and carried the fate of the galaxy with them.

Well, if The Force can willfully drive/manipulate everything in the galaxy, I'd hate to be anyone but a Skywalker. The Force even made sure Luke got his parents' droids. That means the Force popped R5's motivator unit. Meanwhile, the Force couldn't be bothered to intervene for everyone else in the galaxy who was being enslaved or murdered. But making sure Luke wouldn't just get any two random droids, but ones who belonged to his parents? The Force is there.

Damn; now I'm starting to become one of those who kinda wants Star Wars to stop. The Force is only going to get more out of control and incomprehensible from here on out.

Yep. And that naturally prevented him from expanding it and adding more creative new layers to the mythos. It's a shame.

Oh man :lol

Don’t forget Aurra Sing during TPM pod race all she’s doing is observing from a ledge.

She stood around observing so much Becket pushed her off the cliff side. :lol

Let's face it: Star Wars just hasn't been able to hit its stride under new management.

For starters there needs to be a lot less dark and a lot more fun. Adventure should be the key word when any writer is sitting down to pen a sequence. I feel in all these Disney movies, the sense of adventure has been lost. Trekking to new exotic landscapes -- not miserable looking cities with crowded slums and broom boys and certainly not richie-rich casinos where aliens wear terrestrial tuxedos.

Also, the design teams need to up their game. A Star Wars movie should have a universe of new designs -- not just one or two new troopers and a few poorly put together costumes. RO came the closest to a "busy galaxy" and felt the most "lived-in". All the others feel... empty.

While the PT and even some parts of ROTJ had design laziness, the ST seems like a creative wasteland in comparison. Ships, creatures, costumes - most of it either recycled (couldn't believe the "black-on-white" instead of "white-on-black" TIEs in TFA, and we've now had TWO ATATs-but-different) or looking like it's from some bad sci-fi TV show. I mean you compare ET-meets-Golden-Girls Maz to designs like hammerhead and Greedo.

I guess they ran out of landscape-dominated planets too, but the planets post-OT have been pretty lame on the whole - or straight retreads. I liked stormy ocean AOTC world and the RO opening planet, but there doesn't seem like much creative thought going into "this would be a cool planet."

The "travelogue" aspect to SW was fun. Adventure and fun seems to be the last thing on SW filmmakers' minds these days. Even if I had liked TLJ, it was such a dour slog tonally. Even though I didn't love Solo, it at least felt like fun and adventure were on the filmmakers' list.

Here we go again holy hell people love to ignore history its as if the PT never happened in their minds lol

PT “***** my childhood” that’s right none of those designs look like the SW of my childhood!

OF COURSE Disney was going to give us the OT characters along with Tie Fighters, XW and Walkers.

For the millionth time the ST HAD TO HAVE THE OT CHARACTERS BACK, TFA HAD TO BE A RETREAD OF ANH AND ALSO HAVE EXACT OT SHIP DESIGNS BECAUSE OF THE PT BACKLASH!

Oh that’s right I forgot you believe there was no PT backlash. :lol

You think Disney was going to pay 4 billion and not copy the OT!

I’m so pissed they brought back Maul or at least half of him lol

It's very clear now that the Disney buyout was the best thing that could have happened to Star Wars since the OT. If Lucas had retained ownership we'd have no RO, no Solo, no good parts of the ST and in their place we'd have a Micro-midichlorian Trilogy (90% green screen), 3D Special Editions, and that utterly awful looking Seth Green comedy cartoon series.

And yes the ST would be an entirely different animal if the PT had been decent and not forced Disney to go back to SW's OT roots to get anyone to even care again.

"It is what it is" "woulda/coulda/shoulda" bla bla bla but at the end of the day when ROTJ ended its theatrical run in 1983 I never dreamed that we'd ever see awesome new flicks like RO and Solo again so I see very little to complain about even if I don't agree with every decision Kennedy and LFL have made.

I don’t care how much the PT are now claimed to be “real SW” as a critique against the ST the reality is those movies were the laughing joke of cinema back then people were literally pointing at the screen and laughing at the dialogue and cringing at the acting.

My screenings were full of laughter AT THE MOVIE not with the movie.

Anakin turning to the darkside GOT LAUGHED AT I mean holy crap that’s supposed to be the defining moment!

It was actually embarrassing to be a SW fan and discussing those movies with non fans.

The ST don’t come anywhere near that level of embarrassment all my ST/RO/Solo screenings had zero laughter at the expense of the dialogue and acting.

Compare the saber battles in the ST to Anakin wobbling on that lava droid.

I could almost hear a choir chanting, "Hallelujah" as I read this post. You captured my sentiments of the PT (and thereby my forgiveness of many of the faults of the ST) absolutely perfectly! Every. Single. Point. Thank you!!

Everyone has the right to enjoy or hate any movie. That's fine; it's all personal preference. But to isolate the ST as being garbage in the context of a franchise that already includes the dialogue, acting, intentionally (and insultingly) silly/moronic "humor," and plot contrivances of the PT just seems weirdly disconnected. It's been a challenge for me to understand it. I feel bad for continually denigrating the PT (I know some here are fond of those films to some extent), but I've been doing more of it out of sheer disbelief that the ST is being trashed for its quality given the standard set by the prequels.

Thank you again; in all seriousness, it was almost therapeutic. I was starting to feel like I had ventured into Bizarro World where everyone had either forgotten the prequels existed, or forgotten how much of a mess so many fans had recognized them to be.

Yes, that was a low point, even for me. And maybe the Tarzan-like swinging from the cables. And for many, the saber-spinning (even though it made perfect sense to me).

Still beats the ST duels though, probably cos I'm more emotionally invested in the characters. The ST feels like an afterthought and I just don't care as much about the characters.

:lol I don't want to be a part of any "team" here. I have a high regard for most people who post in these threads, no matter what they think of any of the films or who they align themselves with. Practically everyone who posts here on a regular basis has made me either laugh, think, or simply nod in approval. All good.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I even remember laughing out loud with the sold out opening night crowd for AOTC when Hayden Christensen was seemingly masturbating while dreaming of his mother. People were openly *guffawing.* And these were the diehard fans who had to stand in line for an hour (or more) before the days of pre-assigned seats and who all *wanted* it to be good. It was absolutely surreal to witness what the mighty Star Wars Saga had become. Like you said those films were literal laughingstocks. To compare the ST unfavorably to them is the height of hyperbole and is simply absurd.

:lol :lol

I remember the laughing as well.....

Anakin riding a cow....

Anakin’s hokey dialogue

I even remember them laughing at Yoda

(Whats with that anyway? Cant make a puppet look better than it did in the 80’s now? Are practical effect guys that bad now?)

There was alot of anger after TLJ....but not alot of laughs..
Whatever that means..
