Holy crap a-dev just fixed my Maul conundrum! :yess:

But if I accept that excellent explanation then why am I supposed to get excited again when his big reveal happens? :dunno

:lol

Glad you enjoyed it capn! :rock

Just to address a couple of your points real quick:

They actually do establish the exact time as being 10 years before the events of ANH but only if you recall that Chewie was listed as being 200 years old in SW storybooks and trading cards that came out in 1977. If you didn't know that he was 200 years old in ANH then him being 190 obviously wouldn't indicate when this film took place (technically the beginning of Solo is 13 years prior to ANH if you include his 3 year stint with the Empire prior to joining Beckett's crew.)

Regarding the "only two" Sith rule I believe that the either the Clone Wars or Rebels cartoon establish that he's now just called "Maul" and not Darth Maul since he's no longer a Sith.

Rebels....he is no longer Sith, says it himself....hes a renegade out for revenge on Obi Wan, Jedi and the Sith.

Actually they could go right into the Obi Wan film from here.....Kiara could be part of that story

I think that Maul is totally against Palpatine but someone more versed in the CW and Rebels series would be able to tell you for certain.

Maul recognized that he had been kidnapped as a child from the Nightsisters by Palpatine, and tortured and raised to be a disposable tool, while being promised Darth-ness. He was a successful assassin, yet was bisected by Obi-wan. The safety mechanisms in the energy tube saved his life, but he was forgotten. Palpatine never came looking for him, and simply moved on. When his sanity was restored by Mother Talzin, possibly his mother, he realized his loss and a deep desire for revenge against Sidious and Obi-wan. With his Nightsister enhanced brother he tried to set up a competing Sith pair and base of power- combining Mandalorian Deathwatch, Hutt, Pike and Black Sun forces to rule Mandalore and control Hutt Space. In response to this challenge, Sidious appeared and personally smacked them both down in an awesome fight that shows why no one should mess with Sidious (fight occurred in clone wars). His brother was slain, and he was imprisoned. But the usage was not done yet. Sidious allowed him to escape and try to rebuild his scattered power base to lure out Talzin, who tried to possess Dooku to replace her lost corporeal form. This allowed her to be trapped and destroyed by Sidious, and Maul barely escaped the following assault. He disapears in bitterness and anger until he appears in an old Sith Temple (Star wars Rebels)- craving revenge against Vader, Sidious, their Empire, and Obi-wan. His anti-Imperial credentials allowed him to ally with the Rebels to gain his ends, combining Sith and Jedi holocrons to find his answers, reaching out to Ezra Bridger as a apprentice, and discovering Obi-wan was alive, went out after him. Hatred and revenge dominate his life.. When he confronts obi wan

Maul: Look what has become of you. A rat in the desert.

Ben Kenobi: Look at what I've risen above.

Maul: I've come to kill you, but perhaps it's worse to leave you here, festering in your squalor.

Ben Kenobi: If you define yourself by your power to take life, the desire to dominate, to possess? Then you have nothing.

Maul: [igniting his lightsaber] And what do you have? Why come to this place, not simply to hide?... Oh, you have a purpose here. Perhaps you are "protecting" something? No... protecting *Someone*.

At that moment obi wan realizes that maul knows about luke, he calmly ignites his saber and takes maul out.. As maul lay there dying he says"
Maul: [Dying] Tell me... is it the chosen one?

Ben Kenobi: He is.

Maul: He will... avenge us. Avenge us means he will kill vader and the emperor... which was always mauls greatest wish even more so then obi wan, but he failed when he tried himself and much like yoda went into hiding

Well that's....confusing. I'm sure it makes more sense when spread out over many episodes, though.

I hate that we already know how he meets his end. Makes any future appearance less interesting, at least to me.

WOW thank you for taking the time to write this out holy crap I had no idea Maul was no longer following the Sith order!

:duff:

Makes me look at his Solo appearance differently now.

I was nice reading this Maul recap and visualizing the scenes in my head (having watched both Clone Wars & Rebels). Thank you!! :clap

Great recap and shows what a great arc they have this throw away character....

Once you get past surviving the whole sliced in two thing, its a great ride...

I forgot Maul was killed again in Rebels.

His appearance in Solo kinda wiped all that out though, right? Seems like he's been head of Crimson Dawn for a while, and that doesn't line up with his story in Rebels.

Solo takes place before rebels, not after.

Oh, it sounds like most of the Maul "mob boss" stuff takes place during Clone Wars, which I don't remember much, that's why I'm confused.

I didn't remember him being like that in Rebels, just that he'd more or less gone insane.

Which now kinda makes me wonder what happened to him between Solo and Clone Wars.

I think they just went to great lengths to give him a physically aged appearance in Solo, yet Rebels came after Solo, and Maul seemed just as nimble as ever in Rebels.

Darth Maul caught a glimpse of himself after the events of Solo and realized that he was one Dathomir doughnut away from fat. He then decided to commit and caught wind of a new exercise regimen, the Sith Master Body Blaster. Feeling the burn flowing through him, he got back to his nimble size 4. They were saving this for the Solo sequel. It was to be presented through a killer montage.

I'd watch the **** out of that.

I would suppose:

1. That they INTENDED him to be the main baddie in a Solo sequel that would cover his fall into madness (which would have been interesting to see if they could pull it off)

and

2. I chalk his age up to retconning Solo into the established timeline. After all, Ray Parks is 20 years (!) older than when he first played the character.

Yes I need to see a montage of Kenobi running through deep sand dunes and up rocky mountains (ditching a couple Sandtroopers in a Landspeeder) spliced with Maul testing out all the latest cybernetics, lol
