... who in their right mind would have all of open space before them yet deliberately aim their ship directly at that massive Star Destroyer that's pursuing them, lol.

Isn't she copying (perhaps poorly) Han Solo's move earlier in ESB -- "You're going to attack!?"

It does keep a lot of their guns off your ***.

I've always just handwaved their trajectory with the assumption that the TIE Fighters "herded" them toward Vader's ship with the constant stream of strategic blaster fire.

**ATTENTION: Solo picture quality fix for Samsung TV owners!**

Okay after getting pissed at how bad the lighting is on the Solo blu-ray after watching CTB I decided to pop Solo in the player and play with the brightness settings. I distinctly remember for my three theatrical viewings of Solo the IMAX 3D looking good, the Dolby Vision auditorium looking *great*, and the standard 2D Markus theater looking dark and terrible. I also remember the cinematographer responding to widespread complaints of the darkness and defiantly stating "it's my job to shoot the movie, not calibrate the theater projectors."

Long story short I switched my Samsung TV's picture setting from "Movie" to "Dynamic" and BAM, instant change to the entire look of the film!

Anybody else with a Samsung TV who like me just watches all movies in "Movie" mode (which you'd think would be a no-brainer, duh) I absolutely advise you to ALWAYS switch to Dynamic for Solo. I'm blown away! Brightness is back to Dolby Vision levels, it's a whole different experience! Contrast is still there (meaning blacks still look black, shadows are still dark) but you can see details again! Actors' faces! Lol, thank God, I was really getting worried that this would ultimately be too frustrating a film to watch repeatedly at home but it's no longer the case. Film looks gorgeous again.

I have mine calibrated to theater levels. If you want to know my settings just ask Ill shoot you a screen shot.

The film looks great to me...never understood the darkness complaints.

I customized “movie” mode as dynamic uses the true motion nonsense...

She's ''flying casual'' you could say.

How do you know which theater though? As I mentioned before the Dolby Laser screening of Solo was vastly superior than standard Markus.

Yeah feel free to PM me, thanks!

Hmm I don't believe that my particular model does that. I used to use True Motion to simulate HFR when watching the Hobbit flicks and my Dynamic mode looks nothing like that. I did end up switching to "Natural" mode for Solo (and keep "Movie" for everything else) but I'd still like to see where you've got your settings.

At the very least there's definitely no reason anyone should have issue's with Solo's PQ at home since all it takes is a simple setting toggle to "fix" the reduced lighting on the blu-ray.

Wor-Gar My wife and I are planning to upgrade our tv next spring. We bought a new house and have a media room now and that room is getting a complete upgrade come tax time. Do you have a suggestion on a tv? We are thinking 75' to 80". We like a lot of the Samsung models but I am open to suggestions from fellow videophiles.

I tend to stick with LG for tv's. Havn't delved into the world of OLED yet however, but I will do so very soon now that it is much more affordable.

Jye is the man to ask. I'm an amateur at best.

All I know is I want a 75" for X-mas. I can't afford OLED yet so my likely choice right now is the Sony 75" LED 900F.

Samsug man here.....LG then Sony IMO.....

The new Samsung OLED is awesome.....the Samsungs are more expensive, but to my eyes its a better picture.

The fancy pants reviewers will argue that in the stats, Sony is tops......

I've had a Sony 55" LED LCD 55W900A since Jan 2014 and to this day when people come over they still comment on how good the picture looks. So I'm still enamored with Sony.

Better deals on LG for sure.

To be fair....I hate Sony after my first Blue Ray player failed at 4 months and they refused to honor a lousy 3 month warranty. At that time BR players were 200-300 bucks.....so I am bias.

Sorry, couldn't resist, lol.

One other cool aspect of Solo is that it basically reveals Imperial Stormtroopers as being the most "evil" out of the three trilogies. The PT clones are just preprogrammed humans (basically glorified droids) while the ST Troopers are all "taken from their homes as children" and brainwashed according to Finn.

But Solo showed us on screen able bodied adults voluntarily joining the Empire to become troopers at recruitment centers and even being aware of their "hostile" invasions of planets and being totally fine with it. Hell some of them apparently even enjoy watching their fellow men being eaten alive by "beasts."

Do you mean QLED? Samsung does not make OLED.

Two very different technologies. Only LG manufactures OLED panels. Sony purchases their OLED panels from LG.

Up until recently, I was in the consumer electronics industry, primarily Home Theater (Audio & Video) for 20 years.

A quick rundown for anyone that cares.

OLED is by far the superior technology. Samsung is trying to prolong the life of LED as they have been the leader for many years. They chose to confuse consumers about 2 years ago by switching their marketing campaign from calling their TV's what they actually are. Shortening Quantum Dot LED to QLED, to make it sound like OLED. Samsung chose to not invest in OLED technology due to cost, and continue with LCD technology. All LED tv's are LCD's (LED back lighting vs CCFL back lighting), confusing consumers who can't bother to do research since they started to be manufactured and sold at retail. OLED is Organic Light-Emitting Diode. OLED functions more like a Plasma did.

The simple answer is QLED's only advantages are brightness and image retention (burn in). So those who are tricked into believing a brighter picture is a better picture will like Samsung. Especially if you prefer to watch TV in a bright room, or having lights on, versus a darker more theater like room. OLED is superior everywhere else when comparing actual picture quality. Better black level, contrast, color, viewing angle. It's only limitations are still price (more expensive).

Both tv's are impressive. One great, one good. If you want big, you can get an 82" Samsung QLED for a lot less then the 77" LG OLED. If you want the best possible visual experience and are content with a 55" or 65", the LG OLED has become much more affordable and is the best TV on the market. Ever to date. Period. It is now the reference TV technology all others are judged by. Reviews are given based on comparisons. Every TV will be judged and compared to the latest benchmark, the LG C8 series TV. Previously it was still the Pioneer Elite (& latter Panasonic who bought Pioneer's technology after Pioneer left the video industry) Plasma TV's.

If you take a little time to do some research, you will see everything I have stated is true and fact. The only reason you may find TV's with higher ratings than the LG, is when price is taken into consideration. Consumer Reports always had cheaper TV's rated higher as they based their reports on "Value" over absolute "Picture Quality". That's where Audio/Videophile websites excel with their reviews. They judge on quality instead of overall value. A quick analogy, much fewer people would buy a Corvette if they could afford a Ferrari.

But in the end, buy what YOU like. What makes YOU happy, It's your hard earned money.:duff
