Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

If they started filming in February then they can literally reshoot everything from scratch and just do December 2018 instead of May. Sounds like Kennedy wanted a Western based on Kasdan's script and the directors wanted an improv heavy 21 Jump Street in space. I bet as more and more shooting wrapped they assumed themselves more and more indispensable. Oops.

This deserves a dramatic facepalm, I'm afraid.

I'm sure Kennedy wanted something children and old people alike could see and cheer to, just like Rogue One*, and the directors wouldn't give up that autonomy. They could have learned a lesson or two from David Ayer and whoever it was that directed Rogue One. Pull out the vaseline jar, take a deep breath, and let the producers do what they will in this situation.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

The irony in all this (just as it was with Rogue One) is that she's probably right about the end product.
I have no doubt that RO was a better movie because of Gilroy and the reshoots. And I'm hoping likewise here, a stylish western like movie sounds interesting.
Apparently they went full comedy too much.

But she has most certainly failed in many ways as lead creative producer at LF by hiring these "indie" "new" directors then not letting them make their movie. The cost implied, the bad press, the continuous turmoil and reshoots. Fail.
Be interesting to see what happens from here on in.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I don't know. Bringing in indie directors with some vision and style to lay the groundwork, then allowing the producers and a journeyman director to come in and play cleanup might be a good strategy. That way, you avoid the dual pitfalls of either going too far off the rails of what a mass audience expects, and at the same time avoid ending up with some completely generic, mediocre fare.

Debatable how that worked out with Rogue One, but makes some sense in theory.

1. Disney is happy that you believe this.

2. Disney is lying to you.

Bryant Singer is now producing Star Wars?!?

It's weird that they fired Josh Trank before production and then stole his business model.

Nah, and I'm no Disney lover.. at all. I think RO speaks for itself. Edwards is not a great director IMO, Gilroy improved it when he took over the reigns.

Gilroy assisted him with Godzilla as well. Adding an established collaborator /= "getting fired."

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Interesting news, Kennedy has yet to let me down so it don't phase me. Wonder who will finish it? Joss? :lol

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

There's no way she'll replace them with another "risky" director. The bad press would be deafening if she ever found herself firing a second director from the same movie. It'll be someone like Ron Howard, Kasdan, Joe Johnston or even Abrams.

Gareth has already stated that he'd never touch Han's backstory. :lol

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

They keep hiring these newbies... and end up bringing in the old guard to 'fix' it. Maybe that's the new formula. Drain the kiddies for anything new, then bring in the know-how to actually execute a final.
