Just a quick note From Shawn: Looks like "the other" item may indeed be a locator. This has never been done and we can use it for our other figures too. Ripley and Hicks.

Should have something soon. That little wooden mannequin isn't working as a tailor's form, so I have to wait for the actual Mego bodies I've ordered. I suppose I could whip out that locator to have something new to post.

Sent Shawn some info on Mego bodies but haven't heard back from him. Trying to help him expedite the body angle. I think he's got it down, but we'll see. I support the Mego as I used it myself, and have NO problems with it. It's scale and will work with other heads and necks, and should expedite this project best. IMHO.

It seems Shawn has Mego bodies ordered, so I'm hoping we're going the standard mego male body for Newt Modding.

Thanks to Les for his guidance here, it's important to get this right from the start. Those did kid bodies were way too tall. I guess all Shawn has to do is mod the chest or recast modded chest pieces and we're good to go.

"I'm working on a prototype figure while I'm waiting for the bodies. I've chopped down a Barbie and put her back together to approximate the size so I can at least display a full figure. Hope to have that done over the weekend!"

Update! I've got the Mego bodies. Les was right, they're the perfect scale. There are two things I'm on the fence about, and I'm not sure how much it will bother people. Both issues are with the arms. With other Mego bodies there is a slot in the shoulder joint that allows the arms to raise laterally on a metal bracket. These lack that set-up, so the arms have a limited range when trying to achieve a "T" pose. They also lack that ole' "kung-fu" grip, as do all mego bodies. Between these two issues, I don't know how well she will pose riding on Ripley's back. She can't fold her arms around Ripley. She could hook her arms under Ripley's arms with her hands on Ripley's shoulders, as id she were a backpack. Still, it's about the best body out there for this project.

Thanks for the update! Got a much better idea of what the posing options will be now.
Question: Could the shoulder joints on this body be modified to improve range of motion without having to do major surgery? If so, do you have any ideas on how that might be done? Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Scale is perfect. Legs and feet look great, her little knee caps will poke just fine out of her ripped coverall holes. Now you can cut the clothes to fit this body so that is great news.

I guess you'll be modding the chest and maybe grinding down the muscular elements of the body, arms maybe. They seem a bit popeye-ish.

As far as arm articulation, I'd like to see pics of the range of motion. Can she salute? How far up can she raise those arms? Newt's arms literally draped down over Ripley, hung down over her chest with hands clasped so I don't know how far raised they would have to be.

Love to hear from Les on this. I guess there are three options.

1) Go with this as is and deal with it

2) Mod shoulders for articulation

3) Try to find Mego bodies with shoulder slots

This is the Publicity Still, Mego arms would have to raise 50% lateral

In the film she was piggybacked in some scenes... her arms would still have to raise up like 50% laterally. Shawn, you said limited.

Can these arms raise up 50%?

Yeah, Les would no doubt have some ideas about this. From looking at the pics though, it looks like removing some of that plastic "muscle" from the chest and arms would probably allow her arms to be raised as far they are in that pic you posted. Guess it would depend on the thickness of the plastic and how much of it you could safely remove.

Btw, if I can change my reservation, I'd like to have a complete figure, but unassembled and unpainted. Basically a "kit", but including the body. I think I'll go with the bald head, too. Hope that won't be a problem.
