I love how some angry fanboys think that because they didn’t love The Last Jedi that the brand is somehow irrevocably damaged or something. :lol. It’s still Star Wars and one of the biggest brands in all entertainment/media. Hot Toys probably doesn’t have a reveal because bad timing with May the 4th being sandwiched between Infinity War and Solo. That’s probably why they revealed Obi-Wan like a month ago when not much else was going on.

Just because Star Wars is still one of the biggest franchises in the world doesn't mean that the brand hasn't been damaged. Despite the fact that people took a lot of issues with the prequels, the kids still wanted the toys and collectors still wanted the collectibles. Now, there's Star Wars merchandise sitting unmoved, all over shelves. Like I said in my last post, go walk through a Toys R Us. Everything is marked down because everything needs to go, and there's still a TON of Star Wars figures and toys sitting on the shelves. If Star Wars didn't drive away their core audience, there's absolutely no way that happened.

Star Wars will still be huge, there's no question about that. But unless they do something to bring people back in Episode IX, the days of Star Wars being a threat to break ticket sales and opening weekend records is over, and there will be a decline in the amount of merchandise out there, which is something we're already seeing.

Well, to be fair, the merchandising is coming too quickly. Back in PT days, the movies were 3 years apart and we're getting new merch every year. There will be plenty of stock because aren't buying new merch every year. That's what made the PT collecting fun, now it's a given they'll do a force Friday type event every year. It should slow down, but it won't. I don't the brand is dying but they are definitely merchandising the crap of it.

I don't get the idea of 'angry fanboys'. If a film is **** it is ****. Fan of the franchise or not.

For sure TLJ has hurt the Star Wars brand. The film has not had the impact expected on the younger generation and it has had a negative impact on the core Fan Base.

Hopefully Disney will rectify this in future offerings from this franchise.

The Marvel Universe has been handled much better.

It didn’t harm the brand. Stop. You and a handful of others didn’t like it. There were still a bunch of people who liked it and the film made money. The franchise isn’t permanently damaged over one film (if that was the case it would have never bounced back from the prequels).

Of course it isn't permanently damaged. This ST is just bad EU like the Vong arc was. I can just ignore it and stick with Zahn trilogy.

The problem is, as mentioned above, the shelves are littered with merchandise.
A good example is you cannot find a Jaina Solo but TLJ figures from the same wave are in their hundreds.

I would have expected something today from Hot Toys. Today is like a religious festival to some fans.

Weakest May 4th in years.

I tend to agree with DT here. I personally had no desire at all to buy any of the HT of TLJ. And taking into consideration the comments from other people here over the last months I don't think many others would have bought TLJ figures, compared to say OT figures. The number of figures and merchandise at Toys r Us I could definitely believe.

In some ways it's like the effect DC had with a poor Justice League. Hot Toys had planned on a Batmobile. I'm sure that won't happen. Same applies with Cyborg, there is a lot of doubt if he will be made now.

Youre right, some people liked it, and yes it made money. Sharknado also makes money and some people like that. But for star wars to have a movie this devisive, is a first. Even the prequels were just ok but i dont recall that much hatred for them.

I had thought of mentioning the DC universe reboot. The Batman Nolan Trilogy is fantastic.
Other than Wonder Woman the current DC offerings have been poor.

Great films sell merchandise.

I have no interest in TLJ stuff and regret buying TFA figures (bar old Han, because Han).

Even the new vintage collection wave. 0 Hoth Soldiers. 2 Jyns. Loads of the other 4 from the new trilogy :(

I just hope this Solo film is fantastic.

That’s a completely asinine comparison and you know it. Not liking the film is one thing and you guys that didn’t like it are entitled to your opinions but this is still Star Wars. It’s not some crappy made for tv franchise that’s always been nothing but a joke. I don’t think the hatred is as clear cut as some like to make it out. The film was divisive yes, but it’s not like everybody hated it.

So amusing to watch the reaction to how people presume to know why/how HT, LFL, Disney operate. If there is no reveal today...people say TLJ hurt the brand. Let me tell you straight out it hasn’t. I have direct ties to the SW Disney merchandising machine. I don’t care what a small percentage of YouTube trolls say when they claim that TLJ split the fan base. They can spin it however they like to get views and clicks. It has not. It is true that some did not like TLJ because of the way it played out and Luke’s character. But that number is small and the vast majority liked it and it was a success.

Thank you!!! I hate when people here play armchair movie executive.

Can you tell us if the HT Donald Glover is as handsome as we all (ok mostly me) are expecting it to be?

Today's lack of news is a bit **** though. I'd normally ask you for some news but I'm too pissed off.

Don't be pissed man...not worth the negative energy...they are just toys and they are just movies. ;)

But us guys on here take this really seriously !! We want our toys !! :lol :lol

TLJ was a dumpster fire. It's a hilarious mess. Hasbro's CEO claims that TLJ merch "unexpectedly declined" after the film was released:

[URL="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-28/hasbro-ceo-admits-making-strategic-mistake-with-last-jedi-toys"[/URL]

According to Forbes, sales decreased by 47% from the year prior:

From the Forbes article: "Star Wars toys were the top brand of 2016 with nearly $760 million in sales, and they were also the #1 property in 2015, with similar numbers. This year? Bested by Nerf and Pokemon."

And it's a quiet May the 4th.
