It makes sense that the ST would bring up strong feelings in the fandom. After all hatred or anger is just as an investment as enjoyment and love of something. I would say that a lot of the discussions have mellowed out a lot over the last year or two. Maybe some people have just accepted it at the conclusion for good or ill and moved on.

Nah it's strong feelings because it's like your mom says she's going to marry that ********* guy and he's now your "dad" and his ********* son is now your "brother." We're supposed to welcome these smiling, questionable newcomers into the SW family without question not because they earned it as worthy additions, but simply because the boss says so (and has some personal interest in it all being "one happy family.")

Well, even if your dopey little sister doesn't know any better and blindly goes along with whatever mom says, you know the family better than even the boss does, so there's gonna be some strong feelings. Even if your dopey little sister gives you frustrated speeches about how it's one big happy family and it's just as great as it ever was (forgetting she doesn't remember and only knows it through old photos) and it's just your shortcomings that makes you not embrace this extended family.

The discussions have mellowed only because TROS divided the divisions. Nobody knew wtf the argument even was anymore. People who hated TLJ loved TROS, others who loved TLJ hated TROS, still others who hated both equally but still liked TFA - it all got so confused that people just threw up their hands and agreed the ST was a bit of a mess (for vastly differing reasons) and walked away.

:lol:lol

That was great and accurate. Post this in the TROS thread :lol

Yep. Lucky for me there's enough finality in TLJ to the point I never have to think about a Rey Palpatine ever again.

I really don't know anyone with kids in the age range, but I don't really see it happening the same way there's a crap ton of young adults who are giant prequel fans because they grew up with it. Kids are inundated over and over with so much different media, I don't know if this trilogy to kids resonated enough to create a mass of fans. Like you said I think the vast majority of kids who went to see these movies were brought by their parents and not the other way around.

I don't mean it as a slight to TLJ, but I just don't see how a 10-12 year old would be clamoring for RoS after the ending.

If anything though, I think Disney+ will be the way kids get into it through having the cartoons and all the movies completely available. When I was in middle school in the 90's I remember one summer where I re-watched the OT almost every day that summer. I could see kids getting into it that way.

Yeah with these movies relying so heavily on nostalgia for the OT and awkwardly trying to introduce new characters while at the same time revisiting a much older Han, Luke and Leia, it's easy to see why kids might not have cared much for them. I'm guessing the next trilogy will do a better job with that since it will feature all new characters and an all new story.

Or maybe the whole idea just seems a bit tired and old-fashioned to the younger generation now. Much like with Trek, I just can't see kids really caring as much about this stuff the same way we all used to, when they have so many other amazing options to choose from.

Totally. So they should forget the idea of writing everything to try and get young kids to love Star Wars and just make more mature stuff for us adults.

Rogue One - Worked
Mandalorian - Worked

There you go Disney, problem solved it's not that hard.

Disney/LFL clearly thought they had this in the bag because they had the 'Star Wars" label, and the ST results prove that's not the case. They're going to have to do better to maintain the franchise if they want it to remain strong in the future.

Like others have already mentioned, there is A LOT more competition for Star Wars today when it comes to kids - even more so than when the prequels came out, let alone back in the day with the original trilogy. The MCU is more likely to be this generation's Star Wars, and besides that there are video game franchises, books and anime/manga, as well as shows and movies.

It's that reason that, while I think there will be a portion of this generation that gets nostalgic for the ST in the future - it won't be anything like what the PT's experiencing now.

I think you can replace that with just "is"

EG might have provided the most memorable theatrical "event" for this generation but the MCU is still not even close to impacting today's kids as the OT did for kids in the 70's/80's.

SW was all me and my friends talked about for *years*, lol. And when they became available to own on VHS and laserdisc we couldn't watch them enough. When my own kids and I watched EG opening day and we all experienced that epic finale with the sold out audience literally cheering practically from beginning to end of it's entire three hour run time my daughter said as we were leaving, "now I feel like I know what it was like to watch Star Wars when it first came out." Wow!

And yet...do you know how many times either of them have wanted to watch EG on blu-ray or Disney+? Not. Once. I even asked them once and their response? "We already saw it though." It was undoubtedly a fun event and memory for them but not something that they really feel the need to obsess over or constantly revisit.

It bums me out that movies just don't have lasting resonance with the current generation like they used to in the past but I know it's a different world and they don't feel like they're missing anything. Quite the contrary in fact.

I'd add to that:

The Clone Wars - Worked
Rebels - Worked
Resistance - Failed

And of those 3, the failed one was aimed clearly at kids with adults turning off.

I dont like the ST. In fact i hate those movies. And i'm not a troll or something. Those movies did not add anything to the franchise, damaged Luke and Anakin Skywalker's legacies and I prefer to pretend as if they were never exist. TFA and TROS is glorified remakes of ANH and ROTJ. I dont even talk about TLJ.

I mean lets think about last movie. In the end Emperor was failed and good guys won. So why we need these movies again? For me, finale of Skywalker Saga was ROTJ. Thats it.

I love Rogue One and Mandalorian though. I just freakin love them.

Hot Toys is experienced enough for aiming Mandalorian and not care about TROS. No one cares. There will be no Poe Dameron figure. Maybe Emperor from TROS and nothing more. Just accept the fact.

I think that goes back to my point about there being so much media created these days. There's extremely few things people go back to re-watch, even me. I built up a kitbashed 2 Logan figures from the Eleven/OSK products and last year I realized I saw the movie one in theaters and never bothered to watch it again, yet I have 2 figures. I wound up re-watching it, but there's still plenty of newer movies I love that I haven't done that with.

Agreed. The positive to so many options are...well that there are so many options, lol. The downside is that there's always something else to move on to so that nothing gets to be truly savored any more.

I'll reiterate something I've thought for a long time; IW and EG are basically one long movie. It's hard to separate them out, though IW does stand independently better. Either way, I feel compelled to dive into EG if I see IW and don't feel right moving into EG without a brush up on IW. Furthermore I think these two films are heavier movies all around. They, in a way, take and present themselves much more seriously. Star Wars as a whole is pretty drop in, drop out fun. It presents itself in a more light manner. To enjoy SW, I don't need the full package. For IW/EG, I do.

I agree with the "heavier" description of IW/EG, compared to what the Star Wars ST isn't. This also ties in to the thinking I wrote above that Star Wars needs to concentrate more on adult audiences. Then they can make the movies a bit more complex and have more compelling themes. Sure they can still be fun, but they can lose the standard dumb summer movie approach with a Star Wars sticker slapped on it and hope for the best.

We all take Star Wars seriously, and this is part of the reason many of us react the way we do when it's bad. Give us something with a bit more meat ie a good story suited to adults with a plan from A-B to C and it'll work. Again, not so hard.

?No one cares?

I mean that statement in itself is laughable.

and yet here you are in an Episode IX speculation thread... :dunno

Hot Toys might make a Ben Solo or Dark Ray exclusive, but I think the window for new characters like Poe or Space Felicity has passed.
Rey and Kylo seem to sell okay for HT, but the troopers and classic characters like Luke and Leia don't appear to be moving very quickly.
Hell, HT couldn't even get a TFA Threepio produced to complete all the original main characters.

Call him a troll all you want, but Intercityfirm isn't wrong about merchandise for the films, have you guys seen the Target toy aisle lately? Less than 6 months out from a major release and Star Wars barely has a presence at all, the brand (toys) is a shadow of it's former self.
