1/6 Speculation: Star Wars Episode IX Figures

Yet Lego Star Wars is the first stuff to sell out whenever a Lego sale hits. I don't know about over in the states, but the toy aisles here aren't carrying MCU figures or merchandise in larger numbers than Star Wars. Comic stuff is more generic Spiderman, Batman type stuff. "Boys" franchise toys in general all seem way down on the shelves with more generic "IP" making up the bulk of stock. They seem to do better in the dress up department than the toy aisles.

A trilogy just ended. There should be a ton of new ST products out there by Hasbro and Hot Toys alike. HT haven't even made Poe, and he is supposed to be the "Han" of the ST. Yet the companies are scrambling to get toys from a tv show The Mandalorian out as fast as they can. I think that tells you all you need to know.

It wasn?t my favorite Star Wars movie but I did like TROS and wish there was more merch for it. It?s frustrating to only get a handful of items from the movie. Now I don?t even really want the stuff that?s out there bc it seems so incomplete. Oh well.

That's just Hasbro being stupid though. TROS TVC figures flew off the shelves and never returned. They really need to expand the line.

At the very least make both Palps, Lando, Babu (should have been a pack in with Zori), 3PO w/red eyes, white Jet Trooper, masked Kylo, Ben Solo, new Royal Guards and 2-3 background aliens/droids.

I?m still hopeful. I?m hoping it?s due to the word pandemic that things are slow and it?s only natural for them to churm out stuff from Mando first as that was more widely received.
TROS still crossed a billion so again, I?m hopeful that we will get some new figures from this line. I mean look how long it took Hot Toys to unveil fat Thor? Or Krennic. Hell, we?re still waiting for ESB Han and Lando for crying out loud.

It is kind of crazy Hasbro didn't even do the main antagonist of RoS in Black Series. A ghost Luke? Anything else? They're celebrating ESB's 40th anniversary this year is all that seems to be coming out, which is fine by me.

Ironically it was the best of the three movies and got the least figures. Personally I like to have each movie represented regardless of whether I like the movie or not, but the truth is Hot Toys has half-arsed it with Episode IX, releasing the bare minimum. As it is there is very little there to tempt. X-Wing Poe, Dark Side Rey, Palpatine, and the KOR would surely have generated a little more interest from buyers. At least those characters were interesting from a design point of view. Hot Toys have quickly had shot of the ST.

Am I missing anything there? If true, this would have to be the lowest (by far) output of figures for any SW movie in history. I'm staggered that HT didn't make TROS Palps - I would have bought that in an instant.

When you see it listed it really shows HT didn't give a **** about ROTS.

To put it in perspective, yes way different eras (in multiple ways,) but in the year or so of release of the third/final OT film, Kenner released 45 new 4" figures based on ROTJ, and in the year or so of release of the third/final PT film, Hasbro released around 70 new 4" figures based on ROTS.

For TFA it's harder to quantify (mixtures of other properties released on TFA card) but I would guess Hasbro released several dozen TFA-based 4" figs in the year or so of release.

It's partly an issue with the ST overall (and major peg warming of TFA figs, then TLJ) because the numbers across the board (4", 6" and 1/6) dropped from TFA to TLJ but dropped way more from TLJ to TROS.

Hot Toys have just unveiled the Captain Marvel from Endgame. That movie was back in April last year. Fat Thor was a while after the movie came out also.

There?s still hope yet for more figures from the RoS line.

While I actually like the ST and TROS in particular, I think we're done seeing figures from it. Endgame was wildly successful and the culmination of 10 years of the MCU. We'll probably get Mantis and Scarlet Witch (at least) as well, but I don't think that spells much hope for TROS figures... I'd like a redeemed Ben Solo, but afraid that'll never happen...
