actually i have always liked tobey and james in their roles. tobey esp. thot he brought the right mix of nerdiness and grit to parker. the problems with his character i feel are due to the screenwriters. pete doesn't at all resemble the smartass in the comic book, who uses humor against his opponents. pete's wisecracks have always been sorely missing from raimi's spiderman series.

the best spidey wisecrack i can remember is in spiderman1, when pete was facing bonesaw mcgraw in the wrestling match. "nice costume. did your husband make that for you?" :lol

I've always enjoyed seeing Tobey, Kirsten, and James in their respective roles as well. They just fit the parts, in my opinion. I'm just amazed at some of the criticism I've read concerning their performances. Spider-Man and its sequels are some of the few movies that I can watch over and over again and still enjoy. So I anxiously await the release of Spider-Man 4.

The best part about all 3 Spidey movies so far was that fight scene in the train with Doc Ock. It's the one good thing that came out of the trilogy. All the rest I can chalk up to Hollywood politics and compromises in terms of the interpretation of the comics.

That said, I would love a revamp done right. No more than one bad guy as mentioned before and a subplot that builds towards the next film. Also, no Carnage. Carnage is ridiculously more violent than Venom and he would not be done right because the film would be too dark and kids couldn't see it (it's all about the money for the studio).

If you listen to Raimi's last comments on MTV news then it looks like Carnage is being considered for the Venom spinoff.

As long as they keep it on Venom's "side of fence." Don't bring that into Spider-Man's world. :lol

they better bring them all back. the hole cast.

I know spider-man 3 was not that great but if they get a hole new cast this will be the end of SPIDERMAN !!

TOBY is spiderman and sam better direct the next one as well.

While i think there were many things that were good in the whole trilogy and not just one, the train scene was very well done.

I think Mysterio, Lizard or Vulture is on deck for this next one as far as baddies go.

Seems I read somewhere that Morbius the living vampire was in line for the villain. But the lizard would be a great choice, imo. Spiderman 3 really lacked any substance I thought. Venom in particular felt like he was tossed in just for the heck of it, similar to Bane in the Batman and Robin disaster.
Also Spidey wasn't really in costume a whole lot. If wanna see Tobey Macguire dancing I'll just put Sea Bisquit on fast forward. That's not really why I bought the ticket.

I agree the subway fight from #2 was great, but I also liked the clocktower bit.

And, how can there be a Venom spinoff???

The Lizard is far overdue, he's been in every film right? With no payoff? Its getting stale. A lot of villains have been milled around based on hearsay. Moebius has been mentioned, Kraven, The Vulture (which was the original idea for the second villain in SM3 but was changed to Venom based on studio pressure and of course Avi Arad), Electro and Rhino but no one has come out and definitive said anything.

Its the same fight isn't it? They fall from the tower and land on the train. It's not the subway, thats in 3.

My favorite fight is probably black suited Spidey VS Sandman in the subway as I mentioned above. It's brief but I really like the way its set up.

Spiderman 1 was great because it was great to "see" a "real" Spidey swinging around, plus it was the origin and so it had a point to it.

Spiderman 2 was great because to me it really captured the spirit of the old books.

Spiderman 3 was a total dissapointment for me, I couldn't believe that I was watching a Spidey movie and wishing it would just hurry up and end already. I have since stricken it from my memory.

All told, trying to squeeze the entire world of a long celebrated iconic comic book hero into even four movies is just a bad idea as it can't possibly work. Same thing happened for the Xmen movies, the only thing I liked about those is Wolverine's "You're a d!ck" line. I think the only way to really do this right is to take an arc and bring it to life with accuracy. Imagine if they did the Xmen's Brood arc, Acanti anyone? As for Spidey, pick your arc, for it would be maybe the Scorpion, but really anything that would have been concentrated on and not thrown in with with everything else to create a mish mash of money making mess would have been appreciated.

actually i don't hate spiderman3. i know it gets a lot of crap from fans.
it wasn't a great movie, but neither was it awful like elektra, or the punisher.

the main problem i had with spidey3 was forcefitting venom into it. i'd rather they introduced eddie brock as a work rival that turns personal over the course of the movie, then have him turn to venom at the end. perfectly setting up spidey4. this, incidentally, was the same problem i had with the dark knight---harvey dent's rushed character arc. what a disservice to such a great character.

by the way, i'd LOVE to see a marvel crossover in spiderman 4, just like tony stark appearing in the incredible hulk. i know that won't happen cos it's a sony property, but it'd be cool to see say, reed richards popping up to help parker with some invention that helps defeat the villain.

wishful thinking...

Spider-Man 4 is already teh awesome!

Raimi will have total creative control for Spider-Man 4

By David Bentley

DIRECTOR Sam Raimi has admitted he had no creative control over the much-disliked Spider-Man 3 - but he has assured fans he will have a far greater say in the web-spinner's next film outing.

Asked why he had originally committed to a franchise where total control was unlikely, he said: "Well, I had never had it. Only now do I have it with [upcoming horror movie] Drag Me to Hell and the new Spider-Man film.
"That's part of the reason I'm so excited about the possibility of making this new Spider-Man, which I'm really hoping I can make. I love the characters still and I've got a lot more creative control than I ever had.
"They really gave me a tremendous amount of control on the first two films, actually. But then there were different opinions on the third film and I didn't really have creative control, so to speak."

Was he referring to Venom, the character whose movie version particularly upset fanboys? In the interview with Empire magazine, Raimi said: "I don't even want to comment on Venom, because I know he's a great character and all the fans love him. I never want to say anything bad about a much-beloved character because usually it turns out that I'm the one that doesn't understand what makes it great."
Spider-Man is, of course, a Marvel comic book and there were reports at the time that Marvel Entertainment chief creative officer Avi Arad (who is also chairman of Marvel Studios) had insisted on Venom (pictured below) being included in the third movie.

Raimi's response to that was: "I wouldn't say it was anybody in particular. It was just that a lot of people had different ideas on what the film should be, and I think - good or bad - the film simply represents exactly the working situation where a lot of people have a lot of good ideas about what the film should be."
So were there too many cooks in the kitchen? He said: "I don't want to necessarily say that. I don't want to say anything disparaging about my friends and partners on the film.
"The best way for me to move forward on films, I realise...and this was a lesson I had to learn for myself...is that I've gotta be the singular voice that makes the creative choices on the film.
"I love Spider-Man so much that I'd like to continue telling Spider-Man stories but only under those circumstances where I think I can honour him. I don't think I can honour him any other way."
Earlier this month Raimi did give an update on Spider-Man 4, but he declined to add any more information: "I haven't yet talked to my producers about what they want to reveal. It's such a long way off that I'd rather not talk about it in case I say things that they didn't want me to reveal."
There have been rumours online that Carnage and Electro will be the villains in the next instalment, but this is probably wild speculation or wishful thinking.

i like what im hearing so far...........i would love to see carnage or the lizard as the next villain though

I'm glad to hear Raimi is in the driver's seat again!!! :rock :rock :rock

Look out Summer of 2011! The Web-Slinger is coming back!!!!

Will Vulture be in some green power ranger looking suit as well ;P

I'm starting to warm up more and more to Electro as the next villain. I think he has a lot of potential in terms of storyline and in terms of CGI, I think it would look just amazing. To date, I still can't get over how well they made Sandman look. He was visually stunning, especially during the "reanimation" phase while he was trying to rebuild his body after the incident.
