None of the skull, really? Hm, I wonder what this guy could be holding.

Nice shots of the Foulkes piece, Blade. Where'd you find them?

There certainly is other existing Spinosaurus material..and we do have the photos taken of the orig specimen to work from.

I found here : https://theclubhouse1.net/museum/modelsdinosaur.htm

It is not entirely accurate to say that they got the skull right, since we don't actually have it, In fact, we don't really have ANY of it;the only specimens of Spinosaurus were destroyed during WW2(wanna guess where they were?). Even then, there wasn't much;vertebrae, a femur, some ribs and a small portion of the dentary. The restorations that have become so popular are based on species that we BELIEVE were related to it.
AS to colors, SMALL reptiles are colorful;large adults tend to get rather drab. This is due mostly to abrasion. The smooth, shiny scales of youth get scuffed over the course of the animals life, dulling down the colors. Also large animals in general tend to be on the drab side(even those with color vision). In fact, in a flower-less(and therefore mostly green and brown world) natural camouflage would tend towards those colors, with(perhaps) small color patches to attract mates. ..PS

Besides the material we have regarding Spinosaurs, it's also better to look at large birds for comparison..they differ greatly. Many are brightly colored other not so much...but you also have to take into account the enviroment in which they live, ect..

I'm hoping it further follows Marshall's designs in regard to color :

Perhaps this one moreso since it seems possible the painter/artist may have used it for inspiration..it looks more like the piece I think :

I have to say, Garret's build of the original Foulkes Spino is breathtaking. He does such amazing water.

The color doesn't bother me on the pieces so far. A little more color would be nice, but I like that they've done coloration pretty subtle.

I love the overall color schemes of the pieces so far, and I think that the production pieces are pretty much on par with the prototypes even though some of the details aren't as well defined (which isn't much of a problem anyways).

I think the production pieces are definitely on par with the protos. They look damn near perfect to me. Much better than what we see in some other lines.

It all depends on how they price them. Between $200 to $250, there is a good chance of the Ex Edition selling out fast. $300 and beyond, it will be difficult for SSC to move these fast.

After the teaser, price is really immaterial for me. Sold. The detail in that sculpt is superlative. As Dan mentioned, if, like the other pieces thus far, the final piece holds up to these shots, then I will be absolutely elated.

I doubt it will sell out. I don't think any of the others have sold out on the day it goes up.

I really don't think there will be a price increase just because he's a bit bigger than the Rex..the two of them are going t olook great placed near each other..maybe head to head.. ;D

I also just finished the Sideshow interview by Mike Fredericks with Tom Gilliland and I'll mention a few highlights for those that don't receive the magazine ( what are you waiting for !? lol ) .

Spinosaurus maquette : One of Tom's favorites, it's a fully grown and on the move piece.

Stegosaurus maquette : finished piece in final development, unique in pose and presentation, tells a less violent story and focuses instead on a maternal bond between mother and young. The size is mentioned as being wonderful, robust in comparison to other subjects and will def makea good collection centerpiece.

Future :

The are experimenting with other themes and formats for Dinosauria, including slightly smaller maquettes of interesting Pterosaurs, busts that don't follow the big game hunter trophy look, as well as more dioramas and maquettes.

I hope the Spino is making tracks through shallow water...and the Stego maquette sounds more like a large Dio..just grand looking. The Pterosaurs would be most welcome in a cheaper smaller size as well... ;D

I really like the sound of the stego maquette. I'm very excited to see it.

Haha, right.

Check it out, I found the Spino's dimensions:

15" H (381mm) x 32" W (812.8mm) x 9.5" D (241.3mm)

That is considerably bigger than the Rex maquette. :google

Rex dimensions, for reference:

11.5" H (292.1mm) x 8" W (203.2mm) x 21.5" D (546.1mm)

If this is accurate, it will be the longest SS Dinosauria piece so far, surpassing even the Camarasaurus.

The bad news: This almost certainly means the price will be higher than $200.

If that is true, i'll be a very happy camper. A price increase was always in the cards, as far as I was concerned. I didn't expect it to be any cheaper than $200

Hey, why don't they make it 1/15 scale. It'd still be cheaper than purchasing Shane's Spino, finished. ;)

These dimensions don't make sense to me - 32" compared to t-rex 8" ???
