Re: Han Price Increase discussion thread

And it's a little naive to think that even though these are half the cost of a medicom or HT figure they are half the quality.

HT&Medicom >SS

I don't know about half but there is no denying that Medicom and HT make a finer product.Hence why you don't see threads about the price of HT figures etc.People know they are getting a real good product from those company's and are for the most part happy with it and willing to pay the price.

I see this as an attempt From SS to see how much they can get away with. They know we keep buying,(SWfans)so they can essentially do what they want.

it has not even sold out yet. i guess the price is turning people away. i agree with all the comments. sad that the political climate has to get in the way of a hobbie.

whine on...

the price has gone up. i can't afford these sw figures. i'm eating mac and cheese 5 times a week for dinner. what are they trying to do, compete with medi and ht? shut down all the garbage mashers on the detention level!!!!!

whine off...

:lol :lol :lol

It would seem so and why not from their point of view? They are selling out more expensive Medicom product fairly easily. These figures could be in the 85-100 dollar range in about 2-3 years.

True. Hopefully they are makin stuff of this quality when that happens

Not to have a huge Medi Vs Sideshow... but Sideshow's Maul was about 1/3 the price of the Medicom version. And say what you will, there is no way the quality of Medicom's will be 3X.

But really, is a $15 increase over 2 years that major? I mean heck, the first Sideshow 1/6 figures were $20, but those days are long gone. Its not like I crap golden turds, but to me its not a major deal.

As a whole, the market really has pushed out many of the 1/6 manufacturers, which to me would indicate that its becoming more risky to produce. Also, Sideshow has been lowering the edition sizes which as well would lead to increased prices.

I'm still happy with the price/quality ratio I'm getting from Sideshow.

Honestly, with me, if the "exclusive" item isn't mind-blowing, I usually pick up the 1/6 at a retailer. Not worth paying the extra money for the same product just for some points. I hate to do it, because I love SS, but I have to

The prices are still nothing compared to Hot Toys, which I buy tons of. Therefore this small hike really doesn't bother me much. All good if it's Star Wars :stormtroo:stormtroo:stormtroo:stormtroo:stormtroo

It is troubling to see the price continue to rise with absolutely no innovation. If they are going to charge these prices, then why do they still have the:

1)same Buck body since whenever Sideshow came into business in the 90's.

2)same oversized hands, the majority recycled from their dead line.

3)same poor tailoring and cloth choice.

4)same rock hard plastic boots.

Right now Trevor is their only saving grace. And what a Godsend he is!!! :)

But their price gouging can only go so far...

I disagree. I see the tailoring (Bespin Luke anyone?) improving and the bodies are getting better with each release in little ways.

Since SS's prices are still WELL BELOW their competitors I have no problem with the increase. So long has by the time their prices are comparable to Hot Toys, the quality is as well.

I think people are forgetting some of the stunning figures we've gotten so far. Bib Fortuna, Boushh, Kit Fisto, Maul, Jedi Luke (with exception of long arms) and others have been awesome, and with very complicated outfits and sculpts.

Can't help what happens on the Secondary Market, but I've been very happy with what I've gotten so far. If I wasn't I'd have dropped out by now.

It truly does have a lot to due with rising oil prices. Plastics are made from petroleum and petroleum is oil. Oil has hit $100 a barrel, so the companies using plastic in their wares are getting their rates jacked up and have to pass the increase along to their customers to keep up. This is part of what killed Mego Toys in the 70's and why 3.75" became the action figure size of norm for a long time.... it's all bout the gas amigos....

Back when Jedi Luke came out I somehow thought that Sideshow would improve on these as time went on (especially the body, it was outdated at the time) but it's really been on the same level except with continuous price increases.

If SSC wants to bring their prices UP in line with HT and Medicom then they need to consider bringing the # of products DOWN in line with those companies.

I know there are some wealthy collectors here, but I think most of the collectors of the line can't afford 12+ $75 items when it used to be 12+ $55 items.

And when you start losing the completists your start losing your core base.

$65 plus shipping comes to about $80 for a suped up hasbro figure. what a joke!

And yet they still sell the Art S. Buck bodies (which are roughly the same scale and amount of plastic as the bodies used for these figures) for $20.

Star Wars has a large fan base, probably the biggest one that Sideshow has ever handled. They are a small company that are shipping figures to both fans and stores. Fans, Comics, and specialty stores are going to order more Star Wars figures than say a Planet of the Apes, James Bond, New Line Horror, or The Dead figures, because of such demand and the price of oil going up and the value of a dollar going down, a small company is going to have to raise their price on popular figures to keep the obscure ones still going. Not to mention the licensing fees for the Star Wars Line as well. Lucas needs his chunk of change to make those Star wars tv shows, and make new characters, so we can have new figures. I'm not advocating the price increase, nor do I like it, and I too hope that the bodies they are using will get better, but things are the way they are. Just buy with your head and not over it.
