I personally don't hate George but he has has earned the criticism. Freaking Han Firing first, R2 hiding behind rocks he cant fit behind, Obi wan's new Alien roar, Freaking Jabba being in ANH, Freaking CGI aliens singing new worse songs at Jabba's Palace, Freaking Vader saying "noooooo" at the end of Jedi, Hayden appearing at the end of Jedi as a force ghost..

and that is just how he ****ed with the OT..

This made me lol, i agree with almost all of it accept the mace duel part and nobody likes rots. In all fariness though we both could do the same thing with the st and the list would be longer due to tlj alone. I think the real point is lucas ****ed up but he was batting close to 500 even higher if you like pm or sith, ya some people dont like jedi but i do (**** the Cannibal ewoks they didnt ruin the whole movie, some of the ewok parts were actually ok, like when they were trying to bbq han and luke had to use the force to make 3po fly. Ya the battle was lame hitting troopers with rocks but it was such a small part of the movie. The st is batting .333 if you like tlj or tros, so overall lucas still did way better esp since we got new hope and esb. The guy deserves another shot to end star wars on a good note so he can die peacefully

And let?s be honest here...the ST is a train wreck but Lucas planned to have a 7 - 9 that took place in the world of Midichlorians... probably would have still been better than the ST that we got but let?s not fool ourselves into believing that it would not have been terrible and more than likely universally despised by fans except for a couple of people around here that will convince themselves that they love any old mindless garbage as long as it has the Star Wars logo stamped on it.

I really didn't like TFA when it first came out (Actually I liked the first hour and hated the second) I have warmed up to it after TROS
I have hate for everything other then Luke, Kylo, and Rey in TLJ.
And as you know I liked TROS.


Were you ever on board at anytime?? Just wondering.. No set up or anything. I know you HATE TROS and the ST as a whole but I did not know if you were ok with it overall till the last film.

It may have been more like what khev said but “midochlorians” would not be brought up, the whills maybe. A whole movie about midochlorians, god only knows what that would be like. They had a chance in sith to bring it up again during the opera scene but palps said use the force to create life, not manipulate midochlorians, that was done intentionally to erase any midochlorian talk.

While TROS helped redeem TFA a lot for me.. TLJ is still what it is.. It just doesnt fit with any of the SW movies. Even if I like how Luke is in that film I would have rather seen it go another way so that maybe the film could fit better in the trilogy.

I wonder how many ST haters would be fine with the films if Luke was presented they way they had imagined.

Anyways I am not sure how long you go back with this thread but one of my favorite statements about the ST and PT is this

The ST needed more Lucas and the PT needed more Lawrence Kasdan.

Even with all my complaints about the PT I still can watch them due to the world building and imagination alone. Something I think the ST is missing. Though again I thought TROS did a bit better with that. Lucas needed a "No" man on the pay role.

The ST needed someone like Lucas to have a plan and oversee the whole thing. JJ maybe could have been that guy but I honestly believe that he was fearful of not being able to pull it off and knowing how Rabid the fans are he knew he was probably doomed to fail unless he could somehow put out perfection. Even though TFA was universally loved (not by me ) I think he knew he dodged a bullet.. Had to be the $$$$ to have brought him back.. He did the impossible IMO with that he did with TROS after the mess that RJ created.

So yeah.. The ST needed Lucas' imagination and someone who had a full story in mind.

Your last post was money lucas needed a no man as he got older, he had too many ideas, too much story written and he wanted to do to much and ended up actually doing to little with the characters and story in the pt. Yes he needed someone to say hey george maybe we should reign it in a bit here and focus more on character building and compelling story rather then special effects for the sake of having them eg atoc. I am for this if he comes back in the capacity they are saying he would be in, and i also fully believe jj asked him for help. They guy loved the ot like we did again tfa was his love letter but rj shat all over his childhood, his mentor and even his own movie then he fought a losing battle against kk with tros. I also believe just like the with justice league, there is a much better cut of tros out there we havent seen. JJ even admitted having a horrible time filming tros, he cited alot of “pressure” and also admitted he hadnt seen the final cut much like the suicide squad director. Then he defected to dc/hbo max. That pretty much tells you everything you need to know

I clearly said that it would have been a BAD movie about Midichlorians...so I guess the answer is...nothing makes me think he could have made a good movie about them.
Unfortunately he was not trolling either...he was in a very serious discussion with Jim Cameron for Cameron?s documentary about the history of Science Fiction and actually expressed some fairly sincere passion for what would have been a serious exploration on his part of the previously unexplored microbiological side of the SW universe.

Funny thing is if someone unearthed the old TLJ thread they would find a ton of posts of me vehemently defending TLJ and I did the same for TFA too.
I was deeply on board.
In hindsight it was no different than when I saw TPM for the first time. Lying to myself...turning my brain off...and apologizing for the bad filmmaking in an effort to afford the movies every possible benefit of the doubt.
As a lifelong fan I wanted to stick with them in the hope that somehow Episode IX would make the whole thing make sense and transcend the sum of its parts.
Perhaps that is why my disdain for TROS is so deep. Once the final film messed the bed the dam burst and all of the garbage that I had been ignoring, forgiving, and justifying came flooding out.
I will forgive a lot when I am waiting for the pay off...once you realize, however that there isn?t one...well that changes things and you resent having been taken along for a ride.

Harrison ford wanted solo to die, killing him off in tfa is how jj got hf to sign on again, it was also his way to honor fords contribution to star wars by fullfilling his wish for the character something he tried to talk george into doing much earlier. Its no coincidence that fords acting was so good for most of tfa and also his short scene in tros. He only came back for the george scene bens rebirth though they tricked him, so there is no chance we see ford again in a redue unless lucas is attached or kk is gone

I will forgive a lot when I am waiting for the pay off...once you realize, however that there isn?t one...well that changes things and you resent having been taken along for a ride.

And there is the difference between us. I got the pay off. I ended up forgiving the first film but still feel anger towards the 2nd.

I know the third film is clumsy but there are things that I really enjoy and some of my fav moments in the saga.

Could it have been better? IDK. Maybe. But after what RJ did it would have been tuff.

But was happy with the film as a whole. First time viewing I had no issues at all with it. It was the most I had enjoyed a SW film since the OT. I had that disdain for the first two films. I had fully expected to leave TROS with a feeling of emptiness. But it somehow awoke the child in me that loves SW and I will forever be grateful to the film for that.

My issue with TFA when it came out is that it felt like SW lite.. It did not feel like a movie but more like a Next generation Episode. I was not on board with Kylo and it made no sense to me for Rey to beat him. I have come to understand that Kylo was conflicted. Someone on Youtube said that apparently he was using the force to keep his wound closed. Is this in the book? I like the idea of him having to do that.. Harder to fight if you are concentrating on a hole in your side. The Dyad explanation helps a bit and of course her being a Palps was just something that i could embrace and I loved the idea. And I have already discussed how I think TROS and getting to know Kylo / Ben over three films helps the death of Han become more impactful.

I still have issues. I hate Maz, I don't think any of the action is that great and the ANH plot is just a bit too similar but like I said TROS helped me forgive that.

Rey only beat him because he got shot with chewie?s bow and was very conflicted about killing his father. kylo was a supposed to be a tragic story even more so then anakin he was manipulated by snoke/palps just the same but he never wanted to be bad or to aquire more power to save anyone or for selfish reasons. He had no real reason to go bad or even to kill his father other then the voices in his head or in tfa snoke telling him he must kill han solo. Snoke wanted him to kill his father, ben didnt want too, which is why the act actually weakened him. This is why he kept hitting himself in the chest he was trying to build up anger and rage, things sith draw power from but he could not. Whereas with anakin he slaughtered people in order to save padme he actually became sith the moment he killed those younglings and it made him more powerful just not in the way he thought. Palps failure was that he underestimated the powerful bond between father and son- so obviously the first test snoke would put ben thru would be to kill his father, the one threat he believed that could turn him back. I just saw kylo as a Really powerful conflicted soul in tfa who was obviously being manipulated by snoke. I felt sorry for him to be honest. I didnt need tros to highlight this for me though its all in tfa

Psssst. Hey I got a secret for you. Guess what? Now fans realize how stupid they e been and the PT popularity is at an all time high. Only a handful of people hate the PT now. People have grown to accept it. All it?s flaws and all it?s wacky antics and all it?s silly crap has all been accepted and people don?t care anymore cause they didn?t think it was gonna get any worse .

It did so now people are looking back and saying. That wasn?t so bad when it wasn?t. Ok maybe some things not all. And yea I?m going to bring up the ST cause that plays a huge factor .

Star Wars was still a beloved and untouchable franchise after the PT and people just choose to ignore the bad prequels but now the ST came out and people left Star Wars in the dust.

And I don?t have an issue I just think OT fans criticize Lucas but atleast the man had a plan and didn?t kill the brand. Were his methods flawed? Yes. Could it have been better? Yes? But he succeeded in grabbing a new fanbase and keeping Star Wars relevant. What has this new franchise done?

So yea your list is nice and long but at the end of the day people choose to accept that for what it is and it grew on them.

Also what documentaries? You mean that ONE whine fest the people vs Goerge Lucas? The film made About people were crying about some silly frog man throughout the documentary? That one? Please. Who cares. The same ones who whined in that documentary are crying about how Luke was ruined in TLJ and now they want Lucas back. They barely acknowledged ROTS in that film.

I mean I understand OT fans are grumbling and mad at changes to lore but it ain?t bad. It didn?t kill the franchise. It didn?t take the magic away. The ST did.

I thought your previous argument was that those who grew up with the OT didn't need to have everything explained to them because you could use your imagination to fill in the blanks.

My issue with TFA when it came out is that it felt like SW lite.. It did not feel like a movie but more like a Next generation Episode. I was not on board with Kylo and it made no sense to me for Rey to beat him. I have come to understand that Kylo was conflicted. Someone on Youtube said that apparently he was using the force to keep his wound closed. Is this in the book? I like the idea of him having to do that.. Harder to fight if you are concentrating on a hole in your side. The Dyad explanation helps a bit and of course her being a Palps was just something that i could embrace and I loved the idea. And I have already discussed how I think TROS and getting to know Kylo / Ben over three films helps the death of Han become more impactful.

I still have issues. I hate Maz, I don't think any of the action is that great and the ANH plot is just a bit too similar but like I said TROS helped me forgive that.

That?s the STs issue. They rather tell through story than show you. They are terrible at showing you he is trying to keep his wound closed instead of just finding it out in a book. Had people known that it would make more sense
