How many black characters and female leads were there in the entire OT?

I forget?

Lando, Leia, Earl Jones -3 of the biggest characters in the OT.
As well as side characters. The leader of the Rebellion was a woman!

Luke was the protagonist. So? Is there something wrong with that? MaRey Sue is the successor. Now that's progress.

But you *could* say he perpetuated the stereotype of African Americans being untrustworthy.

Or you could argue that he was cast in a role that could be played by either a white or black man. That's proper diversity. Han was just as untrustworthy as a character when he was introduced. It didn't matter if Lando was black, white, hispanic or an alien.

Was there any male in TLJ who wasn't:
(A) A bad guy..
(B) Misdirected - misguided and needed a talking to from a woman or
(C) Deeply flawed?

Luke, Poe, Kylo, Hux, Snoke, even Finn needed to be saved from himself (by a woman).

A far more compelling case.

He is a very weak and uninteresting character who is literally a janitor and follows around the white girl he barely knows but wants to protect for some reason. Then he constantly gets his ass kicked in the first movie . He’s a very horrible character. For trying to be diverse they didn’t think his character through.

They tried to build up his character to be the Jedi but it was rey who out of nowhere became a Jedi . Just a very horrible written character. The first thing he does when he wakes is ask where rey is. He’s really pathetic.

What Disney has done reminds me of a quote Chris Claremont gave Wizard back in the 90s about X-Men....I'm paraphrasing but it essentially said "My life's work and it took them only months to gut it like a fish."

That's the fact jack

Star Wars was one of the few movie franchises which did not need to embrace the current obsession with race and sex.
It was already culturally diverse - it always was. It already had strong female characters and leaders. Movie icons as such.

TLJ pushes all that into trashy social media correctness and in many ways undid all the good work that Lucas had achieved in diversity in tentpole fantasy movie making. He created characters that were well rounded and part of the storyline - not cardboard facades- cut-outs shoe-horned into a script.

Leia, Lando, Mon Mothma, James E-Jones - The Empire was fascist white supremism. The bad guy.

Disney or Kennedy - who knows which or both - have pushed it into ridiculous territory now.
RO: Female lead.
TFA: Female lead with secondary character a black actor.
TLJ: Female lead, with 2 of the other main characters strong women - all the men were faulted-weak or untrustworthy.
Watch those scenes with Poe and Leia and Holdo- it’s like they counted the number of men and women in each scene- that’s counter productive to equality or diversity. For gods sake don’t become the thing you want to fight.
Write good female characters -use ethnic diversity in a natural way that fits the story.

And now we have a female droid in Solo - who “fights for droid rights”

:rotfl

All very good points. All these sub texts could've been overlooked if we actually got a good movie. Good plot & story, good character development & progression.... We got none of that.. Just some nice eye candy. Johnson didn't watch the OT or TFA before he made this. He must've watched the Transformers movies. Michael Bay must be his idol, not George Lucas. :(

What Disney has done reminds me of a quote Chris Claremont gave Wizard back in the 90s about X-Men....I'm paraphrasing but it essentially said "My life's work and it took them only months to gut it like a fish."

Lucas is thinking about the same now after watching TLJ.... Only difference is he has a light smile and glint in his eye, as he gave the fans what they wanted. SW without Lucas, got us the lowest fan rated SW movie in 40 years and 9 movies.

I'm sure he so badly wants to ask those same fans that were unhappy with TLJ... "So, how's that working out for all ya now?" :lol

I'd rather have had his ****** SW movies than Disney's ****** SW movies. It's his creation & world after all, we're just spectators...

So much truth to this. I tried getting it through peoples' heads here a while ago. :lol

Movies like the SWST making the amount of money they do are the reason Michael Bay got away with his crap for so long.
