Also kudos to Emilia Clarke for giving a slow-your-roll to the media buzzwords. I'm not one of the Mega City SJW Police but it's cool when someone steps out of the safe zone to call ******** for no reason other than their own inclination.

Numbers can lie....especially if your making false comparisons.

As previously stated, almost all the PT merchandise failed to sell. Especially with older collectors.

If you want to see how well TLJ sells in 20 years then I might be able to agree with you.

Anakin , Obi are character from OT and many collectors OCD demands they get a character in any form.

I personally , did not buy Anakin or Obi, mainly because I didn’t like the final product enough. I still hate the PT, except ROTS which I can accept on many days.

I might also buy a Darth Maul, because he’s a cool character.....still hate TPM...

I would never buy a little Ani, Jar Jar, Captain Binaca/Pinaca what ever he’s called....
Or a 3po from those films....actually Aside from Maul , I cannot think of any other character I would be interested in....

Anecdotal but I was just in a local Walmart and somewhat surprised to see that the SW section was replaced w/ Jurassic toys and the handful of Solo figures and leftover TLJ stuff was stuck in a corner that you could easily miss. Rampage toys had a bigger presence.

Is it over, guys!? :lol :panic:

target is the same, everything star wars here was taken to the last shelves at the corner, and some solo stuff is on clearance already

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

What? So he’s saying he didn’t want to pander to the fan base and make a film everyone expected?

What wrong with that?

Jeez , TFA : everyone complains it’s a rip off of ANH

TLJ: it’s not SW enough.

I understand what he wanted was a controversial film, that took chances which might get people talking , not a safe film that checks off some boxes and makes fans feel safe that no one is messing with “Muh Sta Was”.

He will never live down his attempt at making something different...surprised some crazy SW fan who can’t let it go hasn’t taken a shot at him.....

He may have underestimated the lunacy of many in the fan base.

I think you miss the point in the bigger scale of things. I highly doubt that was his pitch to Disney & Kennedy. He purposely did what he wanted knowing there would be outrage.

Imagine trying to sell a script/pitch a movie and say "I wrote it purposely knowing/hoping 50% of the viewers will love it, while the other 50% hate it. It's gonna be epic!"

Yeah, that's a great idea perhaps if he was making his own movie which was meant to be a stand alone film. Whatever floats his boat and strokes his ego. But he was making a Star Wars film. The 8th movie in one of the biggest movie franchises in the world. He is basically saying he hopes/doesn't care that when EP9 comes out only 1/2 the viewers come back cause he pissed off the other 1/2.

I'm sure Disney would've been all over that.. :cuckoo:

I have two really close Targets, and two really-close Walmarts (I live in NJ where consumerism passes for a lifestyle). Both Targets and one Walmart still have the same SW setups - about half an aisle and, in the Targets, an additional endcap - which is why I was surprised by what I saw today.

I'm not calling BS or anything, quite the opposite - I feel like if I'm seeing that in 1 of 4 stores, it's probably much more pronounced in other parts of the country with fewer outlets.

I do wonder if Kennedy didn't feel somewhat vindicated proceeding with a script that undid a lot of JJ's groundwork. Rumors were that although they had a friendly history, she was unhappy with his approach to TFA and it wasn't until the execs were wowed by his dailies that he got a modicum of leeway.

This is based on my recollection - sorry, no links for proof.

Maybe....

But given what we shear about reshoots I am sure Disney was all over what he was doing...

How he sold to to them is of interest...

My guess is it want something like this

Rian: we need to shake up the Star Wars fan universe. We need more female fans, people of color to join the ranks of the diehard fans.

KK: that sounds great...

Rian: yeah it may piss off a lot of old fans, but they will keep coming back. We need to net the fans of the future.

KK: agreed. Go for it.

Wait! U hate rots but like TLJ? This convo is finished! Rots completely obliterates all the TLJ lol.

Think you read that differently that I mean it. I like ROTS. It’s the best of the PT. But that’s not saying a ton. It’s campy and schlock at times....many times, but it’s the only PT movie I can watch over again anymore.

I cannot bring myself to sit through TPM or AOTC at all...

The only director Kathleen Kennedy had no creative differences with was Rian Johnson. She even conflicted with JJ Abrams. He wasn't woke enough I guess. She approved the First Draft of TLJ script and "loved it".

Not sure if this has been posted before - if it has then here it is again for Jye and Khev...

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I can’t believe they’re bringing back Billy D he’s 81 lol

After Solo box office they might reconsider.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Wait, where did you read this?

He let it out that he has been on a strict diet with a serious work out routine.

Same as was asked for Fisher and Hamill.

Why an 81 year old actor would all of a sudden take on that kind of lifestyle.

No coincidence that filming starts in July.

1+ 1 = 3
