Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I’ll never forget the first time I watched 480p Raiders (not bluray) with interpolation turned to max my jaw was on the floor.

Sooo freaky and different to the 24fps we grew up with.

I remember in 1994 a friend of mine with a laserdisc player invited me over to show off his setup and asked me which movies he wanted me to demo. Naturally I said ESB and ALIENS (both CAV.) I had nooooooo idea what I'd been missing out on at home all those years, lol. It was like seeing both movies for the first time all over again.

I was so happy with my P&S 1990 SW VHS trilogy until that moment, lol.

And the teeth still look like that Endo design's actual teeth :lol

:lol truth :lol

What's the difference?

The higher the frame rate a movie is shot digitally or presented on a screen the more it looks like a soap opera or a live stage show.

Raiders was shot with film (24fps) so I used the interpolation frame algorithm to add clones of existing frames to give it that soap opera effect.

How our brains interpret motion is part of the equation so certain algorithms are used to trick our brain into thinking motion is constant instead of individual frames moving at 60th (or 24/120 etc) of a second.

Anyways because it was my first time seeing interpolation applied to a 24 film in this case Raiders I was blown away by the end results.

Peter Jackson and Cameron love interpolation.

Nolan hates both of them lol

I think I saw that at a Best Buy store when TDK came out on Bluray years ago, because I remember the movements looking different, like the actors were in front of me moving in real time or something. It was very strange.

/\BINGO/\

i respect “24film” but I will occasionally subject my movies to the bastardized prostitution of frame tripling :lol
