Funny how they feel that every Rey saga SW film has to be in the winter..did they forget ANH was in the summer :lol

That was the dead of winter on Tatooine, during the summer, everybody is naked at the Lar's Honestead.

:lol what I meant was ANH released to the public in summer

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

The timing of the Disney deal necessitated December releases.

At one point they got optimistic and moved Ep IX up to May, but then Trevorrow got the chop and they put it back to December again.

I honestly wish Rian would write/direct this, maybe even partially. I just rewatched TLJ for the first time since theaters and I’m curious to see what he was going to do with Luke’s spirit that would possibly haunt Kylo. I remember he alluded to something about it in an interview. He made Kylo and Rey more interesting than they were in TFA too.

I’m willing to bet there will be no Luke in IX whatsoever now, apart from maybe a cameo to cheer Rey on or at the very end. This trilogy is so disjointed ffs just write an overarching story. :gahh

In an early draft for ROTJ, Lucas had Obi-Wan and Yoda helping Luke in his duel against Vader. I can see that being something we see Luke do in Episode IX during a Rey/Kylo duel. Not necessarily "haunting" Kylo, but at least distracting him enough to help Rey. This sort of distraction would also help deflect the fans' continued objection that Rey shouldn't be able to defeat Kylo on her own (due to the disparity in training and practice).

There was also an ROTJ idea in place to have Yoda's ghost actively shield Luke from Palpatine's lightning. And a plan to have Obi-Wan and Yoda come back to life at the end of the movie. Some variation of these abandoned Lucas concepts could make their way back to use for Luke in the final episode.

I'm sure that JJ and Rian have both been very familiar with Lucas's ideas (not just the ones that made the final cuts of the OT) as they wrote their ST scripts, so any of GL's Force ghost concepts from before could've been inspiration for JJ in writing Ep9. Who knows what we'll actually get?

Anakin/Vader *needs* to appear to make the circle complete.

But what about Obi-Wan? Is he as essential, given he had a speaking role in TFA (and appeared in as many major instalments as Anakin/Vader)?

Having Anakin appear to Kylo seems like something that should happen despite Hayden Christiansen. He is a talented enough actor when not working for an director who doesn't care about good acting

I also do think that having Anakin and Obi-Wan in the film are essential to me. I know some think it wouldn't look good having Ewan Mcgregor appear to Kylo or Rey. JJ seems more receptive to have Ewan Be in it because he used his voice.

If this is the end of the Skywalker saga, Anakin and Obi-Wan are more important than Yoda in my eyes. I thought Yoda in TLJ was nicely utilized as he taught Luke the final lesson to Luke which he began in Empire. Would make for an incredible scene if done correctly while tying up the Skywalker story.

Was that Ewan’s voice in TFA? I thought it was an Alec Guinness impersonator or something.

It was the actual Alec. They used audio trickery to get him to say those words using clips of other words.

The concept art for TFA is much better than what we actually got. Grave Robber Kylo looked awesome.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Lets hope they get it right in the next trilogy that takes place after ROTJ with Luke trying to piece together the jedi history.
