Yes, Star Trek got it right, and E.T. as well. The Blu-ray edition of Close Encounters has three versions of the film, and Blade Runner has FIVE.

Robert Harris has already offered his services to restore the original version of Star Wars for the history books before the elements are lost to us. The cost would be about a million or so, which would be easily recouped. The only thing we need is for Lucas to have a change of heart and listen to reason. The fact that he allowed the laserdisc transfers to be released on DVD shows that he is at least aware of the fan demand and not totally unwilling to allow us access to the originals. Maybe one day he will realize that the original version of Star Wars is a piece of cinematic history that is well worth preserving alongside his preferred updated version.

So your saying you are simple minded then? And like films aimed at 9 year olds? There are hardly any issues with the OT.

WoW!!!! At least we have Starkiller to keep all of us in line. Probably much like yourself, i've been a fan of SW since I was a little kid. ANH is the first movie I can actually remember seeing and loving. So save your "real fan" crap. I'll go with the guy who invented the stuff over.... whoever you are.... any day! I'm not simple minded enough to be so easily convinced by a guy calling me a name on the internet. Jar-Jar sucks and Jake did a poor job, so what. Maul and Qui-Gon were awesome and two of my favorite characters. You trying to tell me the Ewoks weren't aimed at little kids? And you'd have to be pretty simple minded yourself to think that a bunch of primates taking down the empire is anything close to good. I'm not going to let you draw me into bashing the OT cuz I love it as well (less the end of ROTJ). I'm also not going to let you tell me that the PT was worthless. Are they as good as the OT, no they aren't, but there is a lot of great content to come out of those movies. Love the clones, Maul, qui-gon, jedi council, etc etc.. And I think ROTS was a great movie. Now i'm gonna go back to reading some EU comics and playing the Non OT games like KOTOR. Sounds to me like I'm the real SW fan, and not someone who only likes 3 movies. :slap

Point a. So you'll go with the guy that created star wars and then ruined it? Here's some info, Lucas had nothing to do with the best movie of the series. If he had the control back in the day that he did now the first 3 would suck just as bad. Thank god he didn't.

Point b. You just lost all credit, you think ROTS is a good movie.

Point c. Real star wars only like the 3 star wars films. As there are only 3, and then 3 poor attempts that don't deserve the name.

For me there is no point in arguing aboout Star Wars. I like the ones I like and everyone else likes the ones they like and nobody will ever change my mind and I know I won't change their minds so who cares.

Good answer
Somethings I love in the pt somethings I love in the Ot

and the debate rages on......

Can nobody just LOVE Star Wars for what it IS!!

I see it ALL as a whole....ONE SAGA....ONE love.

It saddens me that people whine and cry over this....
Yes,the first 3 Star Wars movies are what i grew up with and with them and the Kenner figures, they will always have something dear to my heart...you cannot take that away.
But with the release of the next 3 movies, the games and all the EU that has come since 1999.....i would not have taken that back for anything!!
I LOVE Star Wars...ALL OF IT...good and bad-whatever that is ;)

my 2c worth....which inAustralian dollars now counts for something ;) lol

:lol what?

Look Irvin Kershner did a great job of directing Empire, but Lucas is responsible for most of the creativity, give or take some great flourishes by Kershner.

Lucas personal picked Kershner for the role and together they made the best film ever. Unfortunately Kershner then went on to make Robocop 2, which is one of the worst films I have ever seen.

Well said! At the end of the day we're all going to take what we want from each of these films, good and bad - and no one is forcing anyone else to watch the ones they don't like.

I have my own preferences but I'm not going to tell someone else their opinion is wrong because it's all subjective.

And Lucas then went to direct one of the worst movies of all time, Attack of the Clones...so what? :dunno

The prequel characters are loved by today's children and they are the ones the kids want to be for Halloween--I see tons of clone commanders trick or treating every year, and very few Han Solos.
.

That's why today's children suck. It's very sad they pefer glossy weak special effects over a good story with good characters. I guess that's why Avatar was the highest grossing movie of all time. Go ____ing figure. :cuckoo:

But then the SW section would have 1,000,000 times less posts:rotfl

The point being that no matter what you think of Lucas, he was a creative force back at the time Empire was being made. Just because you don't like the prequels, doesn't mean somebody can go back in time to reinvent history by making baseless claims that Lucas had nothing to do with the best film in the saga.

Kershner is a good director, that's why Lucas picked him, but without a creative team behind him even he can make a crap movie.

So can Lucas. AOTC is one of the worst movies i've ever seen in my life. That was the same opinion I had when I walked out of the theater in 2002.
