From High Def Digest's very thorough review:

'Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Who would have thought that one of the prequels would end up being the worst looking one of the bunch? I didn't. Still 'Episode I' is a DNR'd mess of waxy faces, flat shadows, and murky colors.

It looks extremely dated, and in HD even more so. Almost every face in the movie is devoid of any real fine detail. Pores have been scrubbed away. Hair comes to us in giant matted masses instead of standing out individually. Blacks are flat and at times take on a bluish tint. They have no depth to them. Crushing is a standard offender, swallowing up faces, textures, and characters.

At the timestamp of 50:28 there's an extremely ugly shift in the blackness of the sky above Qui-Gon. It shifts very noticeably almost like unfinished animation is suspended above him. Very ugly. As for noise, I didn't notice any really. It's just the incessant DNR, and general flatness that really bring this presentation down.

Absolutely PS3, best bang for your buck at the moment..just the web browser kinda sucks ass.

I wish they sold them seperately. I'd love to pick up ESB. Only two changes bug me, the Wampa, and Fett's voice. But not enough to piss me off or anything.

Hey guys, so was the new ObiWan Krayt Dragon sound legit? Somebody posted that the Vader "Nooo" was real, and that was just heartbreaking.

Now that it's out, can anyone make a quick list of the changes? Sorry if this has been asked to death, it's a big thread.

Out of. . .3?

I just watched TPM, I would have to agree with that review. Very disappointing picture quality. Not much of an upgrade from the DVD, well not as much as the OT.

So far I have only been amazed by ANH visually.
Empire is sharp but the color is very patchy.

These really do feel like dated transfers. Still glad to have them and enjoying the set, but quite disappointed as well.
4 down, 2 to go..
:dance

You edited your post too late, dude. Rorywan already jumped on the bandwagon :lol

Carl, I don't jump on bandwagons. I do however get tired of reading your constant posts about how much you now hate SW on almost every page of this thread. We get it, we understand how you feel, we don't care. Now, can you let the rest of us _____ about this blu-ray release in peace?
:lol

Off the top of my head:

TPM: Puppet Yoda replaced with CG Yoda. Glitch with Pod Race Announcer's hand was fixed. Frame cropping from DVD corrected.

AOTC: Anakin's mother is now heard screaming for help during Anakin's nightmare about her. Jango's backpack shoots bigger and louder sparks when he tries to escape Mace.

ROTS: None that I know of, they did restore an original scene transition from the theaters though.

ANH: New Krayt Dragon scream, new CG rocks in front of R2 when he's hiding (for only one shot though.) Luke's green lightsaber mistake corrected for at least one shot.

TESB: A mistake where you see some clothing of the Wampa puppeteer was fixed.

ROTJ: A Dug now walks through Jabba's palace, new bigger door to Jabba's palace. Ewoks have different looking eyes that blink, Vader screams "No, noooo" when picking up the Emperor.

I first said...No...then...NOAAHAHAHAHAUHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOO!!!

And then said WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AHAHHHH!

Yes. All of the "rumored" changes that metastasized wihin fandom a couple of weeks ago have been confirmed.

Not sure if metastasized is quite the right word there?

Metastasis is the spread of a disease from one organ or part to another non-adjacent organ or part.

Unless you mean to say that George's constant meddling with each and every facet of the Star Wars series is like that of cancer and that a small change here or there has caused him to, in the end, infect each of the films in one way or another?

Not fixing that Jabba bit in ANH is inexcusible. He'll hide a puppeteer's clothing that no one notices but blantantly change and make foolish his own genre-defining characters???

Han shoots first.

Jabba goes bugged -eyed when Han steps on his tail.

Noooooooooooooo for Vader...

They should give that "Nooooooooooooo" to Boba Fett when he dies. They should give that "Noooooo" to everyone who dies in Star Wars.

Maul cut in half - Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Grievous' head explodes - Nooooooooooo-
Emperor falls down shaft - Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I have to amend my prior statement Irish, because I found this alternate definition...

to transform, especially into a dangerous form: The KGB metastasized after the fall of the Soviet Union. Truth metastasized into lurid fantasy.

Sorry, studying radiation therapy for just a few weeks and its all I can see anywhere I look now!

:panic:
