I just watched TPM, I would have to agree with that review. Very disappointing picture quality. Not much of an upgrade from the DVD, well not as much as the OT.

Ha! That is funny.

I did a direct comparison between the two this morning and while TPM Blu does have too much DNR it still blows away the DVD by a mile. That DVD version is a mess.

I'm watching these now and while the changes are going to bother many...it certainly is one of the best looking blu rays out there. I'm really enjoying them.

what I liked to see is actual blood with all those dicing & slicing. Think the only blood I saw was Padme's scratch back. Those should had been added to the movie.

Watched ANH & ESB and am still pained by most of the SE additions in ANH. I'm sorry but that CG disaster is not Jabba. It neither looks or sounds like Jabba. The ASP droids, security droids and all the junk they added in Mos Eisley is also a mess. Han/Greedo shooting scene still blows. On the plus side, the audio is really great and you can see some amazing detail that was previously muted due to resolution. The ESB holds up really well and is visually stunning.

I'm pretty disappointed with ANH. LF had the opportunity to fix so many things that Adywan corrected in his fan edit, but they dropped the ball. At least his version is out there. ESB was really great. The SE changes aren't too bad and some of the updates made for blu-ray aren't intrusive either. ROTJ is next and I'm already not looking forward to watching the SE Jabba's band.

Why would you be bothered by them fixing the Wampa?

I don't think he's talking about the latest fix with the arm. No one should have a problem with that. It's the '97 addition of new footage that completely removes the tension from the sequences with unnecessary footage of the Wampa chewing on a smoked turkey leg from the renaissance faire.

It's emu leg ;) The one thing you notice watching the wampa scene wampa from the old cut scene doesn't match the SE Wampa. It's really obvious now that the video quality is cleaned up. Also agree Fett's "old" voice was superior.

I actually like the Wampa addition from the moment it was added. :dunno

I'm surprised GL didn't add CGI Tauntauns.

Fett's original voice needs to be added back though.

I think secretly SW fans desire more changes done to the SW movies. :lol
Y'know, part of me thinks, if you're gonna ____ around with Star Wars, just go balls out. CG Yoda in ESB talking about Midichlorians and doing his little flips fighting a bunch of StormTroopers, replacing James Earle Jones's voice with Hayden Christiansen talking through a vocoder in the original films, take out the kiss between Luke and Leia, get a guy that sounds like Alec Guinness to record new audio that better matches up with the junk from the prequels, referencing Jar Jar's dissolution of the Galactic Congress or whatever, make Solo save a kitten from a tree in New Hope so we know he's really really really a sweetheart from the beginning, etc. Just do it, Lucas. Why the ____ not?

I wish they sold them seperately. I'd love to pick up ESB. Only two changes bug me, the Wampa, and Fett's voice. But not enough to piss me off or anything.

The SE of Empire really pisses me off, especially the last half. That film was perfection.

New wampa scenes are useless and the 1997 Wampa looked nothing like the 1980 wampa! Look at the faces to compare.

Vader's "Bring my shuttle" line was much better than the new line he says.

The whole fast paced ending of Empire, including William's "hyperspace" music was butchered by having that ROTJ shuttle sequence added into it. Pointless, I think we know how Vader got back to his ship...

Fett's voice was a million times more cool in the 1980 version. Don't even get me started on the ANH changes...

The color timing is better in the original release. No strange and random color tints caused by the Lowry cleanup.

THANK GOD FOR HARMY'S HD VERSION OF THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY! It's the only version I watch now.

I've been watching the blu-rays at my friend's house. TPM and AOTC yesterday, ROTS and ANH today. I was surprised how much I enjoyed TPM. It's not as bad as I remember, nor is the picture quality nearly as poor as people were making it sound. So, thanks for making me have low expectations, I guess.

However, ANH was just disappointing. Sure, some audio problems were fixed, but the picture quality varied drastically. Many times it just looked so aged. I understand that it's a 30+ year old movie, but Lucas could've spent more time on the picture quality. The scenes of R2-D2 and C-3PO in the desert on Tatooine are dreadful. The colors and softness of the image change from shot to shot, sometimes even from frame to frame.

The lightsabers, though advertised as fixed, are no where near fixed. I can't comprehend how this wasn't addressed. The scene with Luke igniting his father's lightsaber at Ben's home or on the Millennium Falcon would've taken someone at ILM 10 minutes to fix. They had years to fix this problem, more than enough time. I feel like writing Lucasfilm a letter, demanding my money back for their false advertisement and leading us to believe they spent time and much care on these, particularly ANH, because it's quite clear they did not. They can add a dug to Jabba's palace in ROTJ, but not fix obvious issues and address age old complaints?

Anyway, I think ANH will continue to be my least favorite Star Wars film, maybe only next to AOTC. I might enjoy it more if it's age wasn't staring me in the face during every shot. Its audio and video just doesn't mesh with the rest of the Saga, IMO, and it's extremely distracting to me.

GL has an infectious fetish for showing ships taking off and landing.

Watch the PT and take a shot of hard booze everytime it occurs, you will definately die of alcohol poisoning. :lol

Did you just say that ANH is just as bad as AOTC, because of its age!

:thud:

Watched Ep IV last night. The pic quality was pretty good. Some of the parts where the extra CGI was brought in for SE's you can tell is quite obvious. Love all of Alec Guiness's lines from New Hope. I could listen to him over and over.

Besides the corrected Wampa arm, what other changes were made to ESB for the blu-ray?

They added a reflection to the glass during a Cloud Cars fly by when Leia is looking out a window on Bespin.

The furnace in the junk room where the Ugnaughts toss around C-3P0's head now has an orange fire with amber and sparks and the room's tint is adjusted to match.

You know I don't know if it's because you can see facial expressions and mannerisms better due to the clarity, but in watching ANH one thing that struck me that I don't think I ever realized watching this movie hundreds of time is what a good actor Alec Guiness was in the Obi-Wan role.
