I think a root issue with the Prequels is they almost didn't need to be told. You get enough bits a pieces to make up a story of your own to explain how everyone got to be where they are in the OT.

Having the movies almost takes away from that mystique. I kind of liked my childhood imagining of the clone wars better than what I've been shown in the movies or TV series.

Good points. I actually always wanted to know what happened NEXT, not what happened in the past. It's like books where there's enough backstory without having to read preqel books, to know what was going on. Also, when you have such a film and special effects technology gap from 1983 to 1999...prequels can't possibly look like they happened BEFORE the originals. But another trilogy AFTER the original could have worked, though I'm sure Ford never would have signed on again and also to be good it would have had to be in the early 90's when CGI was an infant.

Yeah, and early 90's CGI is some pretty painful stuff... pretty cool looking at the time; but its aged much worse than the model and blue screen effects of the preceding decades.

I think you guys mean mid-90's. Early 90's stuff like T2 and JP is still good even today.

The mid-90's started giving us crap cityscapes like Batman Forever and Judge Dredd. Then it started to get sweet with The Fifth Element and on to TPM and The Matrix.

On a positive note George's refusal to release the OT unaltered again has driven up the price of the 2006 DVDs. Just sold my set for $75

I often wonder, what if George had tackled the Prequels immediately after the OT? With the films being released in 1986, 1989, 1992. What would the stories be like? I'm sure they would have taken direction or approach. He would be striking while the Irons were still hot and not relying on CGI.

They would have been MUCH better and a lot more similar to the originals IMO.

That's really cool. Somehow he feels completely right for Vader.
As I kinda imagined him as a kid.

Finally had time to go through the SW blu-rays and watched ESB and TPM.
It's been years since I've watched these movies, and I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed TPM. Qui Gon and Obi Wan are brilliant, and even Jake Lloyd didn't seem so bad, there were just a couple of really cringe-worthy moments.
Jar Jar however is such a pain in the butt to see. As soon as he shows up the movie lost its impact, but as the story picked up I really enjoyed it.
ESB is just wonderful, but I did find it surprising that Han had a lot more comedic or "bumbling around" moments than I remembered. The character didn't seem so far from ROTJ's portrayal...
Not sure which one I'll watch next.

ESB is just wonderful, but I did find it surprising that Han had a lot more comedic or "bumbling around" moments than I remembered. The character didn't seem so far from ROTJ's portrayal...

I've never understood that particular complaint about ROTJ.

I always hated Solo in ROTJ, he just seemed so like a dumbed down version of the character I had in mind, but watching ESB again was really surprising.

The approach to the character never seemed any different to me between ANH and Jedi. People say that Harrison phoned in his performance...if he did I can't tell. Seems pretty consistent with ANH and ESB to me.

I'm tired of the continuous telling of stories that occurred between episodes 2 and 4. I've been waiting since 1983 to see the further adventures of Han, Luke, Leia, etc...

I'm sick of Lucas acting as if it would violate some artistic integrity to tell a post ep. 6 story. Artistic integrity goes right out the window when there's a Star Wars comedy series on the way.

In my mind, the Empire dies at the end of Ep 6 and anything thereafter is boring. Anakin has "brought balance to the Force" and all that Jazz. Story over.

Any continuing story would be like the EU books in some regard with lame things happening like Han and Leia getting married and having kids (and if you thought Han was neutered in ROTJ) and Luke starting his own Jedi academy.

The Thrawn trilogy wasn't bad, but I wouldn't want to watch it on the big screen.

I think they can, look at JJ Abrams Star Trek, but not if the design of said prequel is obviously more advanced than that of the sequel.
I had high hopes in '99 when I first saw the Naboo fighters,: but the Clone armor ruined it for me. Why did the SW Stormtroopers end up wearing ill-fitting plastic suits when their predecessors had form-fitting armor that looked like it was designed 20 years later..? Oh wait, it was....
I think that was a basic flaw in the entire prequel trilogy. Oh and don't get me started on the Jedi Interceptors from ROTS: 'let's kitbash the Jedi Starfighter with the TIE fighters and chuck in the Falcon's cockpit as well, with no style at all...' excuse me, I'm ranting now...
